You can DI an attack or throw down while you are on the ground but if you are in the air then I'm pretty sure DI'ing down will do nothing >_>.

The same goes for someone creating the opportunity for a ken combo as does for someone avoiding it. Someone could be excellent at either of the two. There are times when you cannot escape a ken combo, period.
