When the first ballot character hits I think we will get an idea of how things are going to go based on who the first ballot character/characters are.I've shifted my mindset from "he's more likely than not" to "50/50." If he doesn't get in I think the ballot is most likely not going to be used for DLC unless Sakurai goes "btw Wolf won here you go."
Of course it's presumptuous. It's the Internet. He isn't deconfirmed until:
-Sakurai says in an interview why he chose a costume instead of a playable fighter
-DLC ends and he's not on the roster
-A freak accident occurs and he's given an NPC role of some sort
People should stop acting like he's already down for the count. It's presumptuous.
Isn't it always the internet?Of course it's presumptuous. It's the Internet.
No, I wouldn't.But you would think why is he still even in the game's starting roster (besides the point that he's been in since the beginning). He hasn't had a game in years and he isn't a retro pick.
Duck Hunt isn't really the surprise fighter, that was Wii Fit Trainer (who would have thought she would be in). Duck Hunt was reasonably possible. No, I wouldn't.
The point of the matter is, Captain Falcon is a veteran fighter. Not only that, but one that happens to have been a staple in the Smash series since the beginning. This cannot be ignored.
This is what makes Captain Falcon a bad counterexample for the (hypothetical) reasoning of recentness in regards to potential newcomer K. Rool.
So again, the only reasonable counterexample is Duck Hunt.
This is because:
a) Duck Hunt is a newcomer, not a veteran fighter.
b) Duck Hunt is not a guest (which have their own guidelines).
c) Duck Hunt is (currently) the only Nintendo newcomer that hasn't had any recent (or at least post-Brawl) releases.
And even then, Duck Hunt is more along the lines of an exception due to its status as the token "surprise" fighter.
...?STOP!!!

Are you arguing with the words of Sakurai himself?Duck Hunt isn't really the surprise fighter, that was Wii Fit Trainer (who would have thought she would be in). Duck Hunt was reasonably possible.
How was Wii Fit Trainer not the surprise lol. I actually didn't know that Sakurai said DH was the surprise character. Are you arguing with the words of Sakurai himself?
Duck Hunt was the token "surprise" of the roster.
Wii Fit Trainer was unexpected by near everyone, but was NOT meant to be the surprise (that would've required her to have been unlockable and not be made public knowledge until after release, not accounting for leaks).
Because she was one of the first characters publically revealed. How was Wii Fit Trainer not the surprise lol. I actually didn't know that Sakurai said DH was the surprise character.
Well its a surprise that they are in the game. Never mind, we should get back to King K. Rool.Because she was one of the first characters publically revealed.
It's like saying Snake was the "surprise" because no one saw him coming.
I believe someone found Sakurai's "Opening Idea" of Smash 4 and Rosalina, Robin and Duck Hunt (Who Sakurai labelled as the surprise) were mentioned as fighters thereHow was Wii Fit Trainer not the surprise lol. I actually didn't know that Sakurai said DH was the surprise character.
Honestly if K. Rool's immense popularity can't get him in Smash, then Isaac's moderate popularity shouldn't get him in either.Regardless of whether or not K. Rool is a special snowflake in terms of precedent (different in details, similar in principle IMO), the fact that he and Isaac are getting so many votes and outranking so many muhrelevant candidates will hopefully persuade the team to stop using said criterion as heavily as they did this time around. Your latest game being newer than other characters doesn't make you remotely interesting, your personality and moves do.
tbh, even though I check the playstyle and potential after everything else, it;s still freaking important.Regardless of whether or not K. Rool is a special snowflake in terms of precedent (different in details, similar in principle IMO), the fact that he and Isaac are getting so many votes and outranking so many muhrelevant candidates will hopefully persuade the team to stop using said criterion as heavily as they did this time around. That's just the thing, fans of other characters shouldn't be celebrating this costume. If K. Rool legitimately can't make it with his support, at best it's just a roll of a many, many sided dice to see if Sakurai wants you. At worst, the ballot means as little for you as it did for him.Honestly if K. Rool's immense popularity can't get him in Smash, then Isaac's moderate popularity shouldn't get him in either.
But one can't rule out that Sakurai bias.
The video showed a solid point: Notice how King K. Rool is in the middle of the group of Mii's while the others surround him? Which leads me thinking to something else. From the group screenshots of the Mii bundle, King K. Rool is in front of the other Miis, almost like he's leading them or something. This could mean that King K. Rool is going to be revealed soon?
I honestly think the ballot doesn't mean much. If K. Rool truly is deconfirmed (which in my heart I believe he is, which is why I removed him from my sig, it's too painful) then the popularity of characters means relatively nothing if they have other "factors" in their way. Be it relevance (which is all that really stood in his way if we're talking purely about ballot here) or anything else. That's just the thing, fans of other characters shouldn't be celebrating this costume. If K. Rool legitimately can't make it with his support, at best it's just a roll of a many, many sided dice to see if Sakurai wants you. Get them to watch some boss battles, then ask them again.I just saw someone say that they can't think of a moveset for King K. Rool. Are you kidding me?
I had to make a moveset for them.Get them to watch some boss battles, then ask them again.
To be fair if you haven't played or seen them it's difficult to come up with one. It's once you do that you realise all the potential.
Plus, Isaac's absence as assist trophy in Smash 4 doesn't confirm he'll make into the game, but surely help his chances. In other hand, characters already in the game in some other form like stage bosses or assist trophies are definitely no hopers.Honestly if K. Rool's immense popularity can't get him in Smash, then Isaac's moderate popularity shouldn't get him in either.
But one can't rule out that Sakurai bias.
Isaac getting moderate votes won't do a damn thing in relation to the "criterion".Regardless of whether or not K. Rool is a special snowflake in terms of precedent (different in details, similar in principle IMO), the fact that he and Isaac are getting so many votes and outranking so many muhrelevant candidates will hopefully persuade the team to stop using said criterion as heavily as they did this time around. I've actually heard it claimed that K. Rool has less moves to work with than DK and Diddy, so this doesn't especially surprise me.I just saw someone say that they can't think of a moveset for King K. Rool. Are you kidding me?
Which doesn't answer me in the slightest.Because I don't think Isaac has just "moderate" popularity (and think calling it such is a subtle technique to downplay his votes by people who don't want him for whatever reason). He beats or goes even with K. Rool on sites like Reddit and GameFAQs, even though he's still a step down in the grand scheme of things. Looking at upvote-based places like YouTube, he's a "hype" character that makes fans salivate, not dissimilar to guys like Banjo and Shovel Knight. Even if his popularity is "'moderate," it's consistently above all first party newcomers except K. Rool, so that's not exactly complimentary to all other candidates.
Of course, considering how little we know about Japan's wants, he could be matched or surpassed by others for all we know, but at least in the West, he's nothing to sneeze at.
Please Sakurai... Don't make Chrom! You're already throw away him because is a redundant addition in MANY ways 3:When the first ballot character hits I think we will get an idea of how things are going to go based on who the first ballot character/characters are.
I mean if we get some obscure character that no one expected then it's clear the amount of votes won't count for characters and it's all Sakurais choice.
I wonder how this thread would feel if Chrom comes from the ballot....I mean he along with K. Rool has a Mii costume but he's also in a Final Smash, we don't know what his position is in Japan though......
I agree. But Isaac's lack of an AT is actually a big issue within itself. There's no chance it was removed because he was considered a playable character but was cut or something.Plus, Isaac's absence as assist trophy in Smash 4 doesn't confirm he'll make into the game, but surely help his chances. In other hand, characters already in the game in some other form like stage bosses or assist trophies are definitely no hopers.
You're omitting the fact that Dark Dawn bombed.Isaac getting moderate votes won't do a damn thing in relation to the "criterion".
Dark Dawn exists. It was released in 2010. Isaac was in it. He may not have been the protagonist, but he was in it.
He was "relevant", yet didn't make it.
His son Matthew, who was the protagonist of the game, was "relevant", yet didn't get added in Isaac's stead.
So explain to me why Isaac being moderately popular in the Ballot as far as we can assume will make the development team decide not to use relevancy as a "criteria" (which wasn't the case to begin with; it only affected how much of a priority a heavily considered newcomer was in comparison to the others, not whether or not they were "eligible") in the future, when he had relevancy.
