Well Ryu was a newcomer and it took them about 3-4 months to create him, that would fit in perfectly with a new character for October.

Source on Sakurai giving a timeframe for when he started work on Ryu? I've never heard him specify it.

Sorry for the late reply, guys, .. just after I posted the image here, I changed the computer (I went to my old one), and this one is like moved by steam power, I dunno (for you have an idea, I finished a whole Classic Mode in Smash4 while waiting to load this page; geez)... But first of all, Thanks everyone! ... but I'll quote few posts for the sake of my page don't crashing. =P

I like the colors but I was thinking if K Rool got in he would have alts or colors to match his other personas. One for Kaptain, Baron, Krusha. Then have a PAON one (if they use Rare design and vice versa. If they mix them well then this won't really be here). The rest can be based off of the Kremling army.

I've discussed this before; I'd love to have all the different disguises as his Alts (including the Aztec outfit and the Pilot one)... but by the gameplay standpoint, I had a hard time seeing that happening, mainly because the crown tossing (arguable his most iconic move); Maybe, as Kaptain, he could throw his cap, but they're of different sizes, and probably would affect the hitbox (I guess); So I kept simpler... but I decided to make the Fredrik costume to homage this characteristic of our King, while maintaining his key details as King.

Gonna be that guy again, but I'm #TeamDontChangeHisScaleColor and #JustChangeHisClothesColor.

It makes my eyes uncomfortable. The green color scheme just works so well. Out of these, though, he more muted colors are my favorites (Klump, Kudgel, Krusha, and Frederick) and the more "in your face" colors are my least favorite (Re-Koil, Skidda, Red Kritter).

I understand that feeling; that was always my statement about Pac-Man (when we were discussing about his colors); I always thought that Pac-Man is yellow and can't be any other color. But with K. Rool, I went this way 'cause the reasons I mentioned above.

Looks good. Lack of claws is kinda weird for me because its a crocodile, but whad'ya know.
What was used to make those anyway? Are they drawn, put together from the Mii costume or what?

Yes, It was photoshopped using the Mii Kostume. =) (and well, the lack of claws it's part of his original design anyway);

You don't know how hard it is when there's a heated battle to notice what PAC-MAN I am when there's 2 of them on a 2DS Screen
The least they could do is change the gloves/boots color, but instead we get small wristbands and hard-to-notice oven mitts that are the same color.
I would've loved Glove/Boots designs based on the Ghosts and the Maze
But no, we had to have WRISTBANDS

I know how you feel. Brawl sonic had different wrist bands and slightly different tints of color. For pacman its worse.

I'm pretty sure they're going to announce all the winners once the ballot ends on October 3rd. If not on that day then maybe there will be a direct the week after that announces all the winners and stuff.

Where does the conclusion of "batllot winners" come from exactly? IN my eyes, due to the ballot's MASS amount of votes coming in I don't think they're "keeping tally" of who "wins" the ballot at all. Rather seeing what the masses GENERALLY want & WHY they want that character, is what they're looking for. With all the people who have bad grammar, troll submissions, etc. etc. internet stuff, there's no WAY they're going to specify "Winners of the ballot" in their wording.

to be fair, K. Rool's cape would be much more visible far away than Pac-Man boots and gloves is in the actual game; So, changing just the color of the cape (and maybe the crown and bracelets), would be just fine. But I thought that referring to Kremlings would be cooler (and besides, would help people remember all those species again, XD);

If we're talking about more than one winner, the time is quite reasonable. Remember Mewtwo? Veteran characters like Wolf must not be so tricky to create, but a character from scratch takes some time.

You're trying to suggest, though, that they'd only announce every character at once. The logic in that is totally fault.


First of all, more than likely they started any ballot characters months before the ballot actually ended, because the grand majority of the votes were in within the first two months. They finished all their previous characters by E3, they likely started a new batch shortly after E3. At the very least they started 1-2 characters, and will start 1-2 more (which won't release until next year) by the time the ballot ends.


The likelihood is they won't announce them all at once, either, and they'd announce them all long before E3, unless they go over 4 characters, in which case they might possibly, at best, have ONE in time for E3 2016.

This is something I've been wondering...how are they going to convey to Sakurai and the developers what the non-Japanese fans want? Are they going to translate the English (or French/German/Italian/Spanish/etc.) ballots and send them to the team? Are they going to read them over and send in a "fact sheet" of what people want (i.e. People really want more villains, more DK characters, more heavyweights, for K. Rool to have a trap moveset, etc.)? Or are they just going to develop a rough tally of character names and send those?

I'd like to think the actual write-us have significance, or else why allow up to 500 words of room to explain choices? But with millions of votes surely coming in, will they have time or resources to translate them all?

Getting write-ups translated is key for K. Rool, I feel, because a lot of them have legitimate persuasive reasons and cool move/playstyle ideas that the team could overlook otherwise.

Hello everyone. My, we're only 49 pages off from 1000! Pre-congratulations Kutthroats we'll get there in no time. In the meantime, I've been trying to make a Mii that lacks a face so I can use it for K. Rool. So far I'm actually having a lot of fun with Mii Brawler! I run 1,3,2,1 because not only does it seem to work very well (I actually love shotput for spacing) but it seems thematic, the shot puts actually make me think he's throwing cannonballs. Headache Maker feels like Macho K. Rool would do (a wrestler dressed Rool) and Head-Oh Assault feels like he's trying to strike them with his crown. Helicopter Kick...eh, I just like the move, but let's just pretend that references the Kopter pack from DKC3!

If we get another 4 Characters to match up with Fighter Bundle #1 (Pre-Ballot) as Fighter Bundle #2 (Post-Ballot), I think that the latest we'd get a character is Mid-January at worst
But that's just my thoughts on it

Thinking about it, I know this has been mentioned before but even if K. Rools costume IS a result of the ballot, it's not
out of the realm of possibility that while working on a K. Rool model they literally looked at it and thought hey we could make a Mii costume out of this to make MORE MONEY! I mean if K. Rool is in fact in development he probably won't be ready till atleast September at best. It's not outrageous to think they'd want to cash in on his popularity early. As many have said on here many times why would you buy a K. Rool costume when the character is available.......

Plus how do we even know it was Sakurais call to make the Mii outfit, it could have been Nintendos decision to once again get that money due to popularity. I can't get over the fact that he has a shiny new model just for a suit on a Mii.....

In regards to the surprise being ruined, look at us right now, debating the costumes possible meaning and wondering if K. Rools happening anymore just because he was released alongside Chrom and a mish mash of other characters. I don't think Sakurais worried about spoiling anything..

Quick question: what do you guys have in mind for K. Rool's final smash? I was thinking there are 3 options.

Kredits (Basically Master Hand's glowing card attack)
Blast-O-Matic (A Mega Legends-esque cutscene attack where anyone hit by GAME OVER in huge type is sent to DK Island and blasted by K. Rool's giant laser)
Crystal Banana (K. Rool pulls out the Crystal Banana and grows to his final boss size from Jungle Climber, using his hands and possibly fire-breath to attack)

I think many expect his FS to be the kannonball rain from DKC1, but I personally hope he gets a faux Kredits Roll that works in the way you described. Have K. Rool fall down "defeated", and the stage transforms into a series of Kredits that pushes opponents up to the top of the screen for off screen KOs until it ends.

I honestly think that, come what may, the Kutthroats have weathered the toughest of the storm.

If K. Rool is konfirmed, it'll feel that much sweeter for having dealt with the kostume krisis and kept our heads about us; that's on top of the bountiful vindication of persevering with K. Rool support for all these years.

If K. Rool is disconfirmed, we've at least come to terms with the fact that it could happen and have a contingency to fall back on: to wit, Sakurai considered the character distinct enough to warrant a kostume modeled on his halcyon days, in addition to the very real possibility of K. Rool returning to the main DK games.

Either way, I feel kontent. I'm just in it to see how the rest of this wild sojourn turns out!

I think the best place for them would be as customs as well. though unlikely, another place for them could be as a side tilt, with the type of gas being randomized (although it'd probably be random in a custom too.)

I'm honestly pretty proud of the fact that I managed to work in Klaptrap as a down-b, with the electric pods as a custom of the same~

Two other possibilities:

--You know how (mostly) detractors and/or pessimists say "The ballot is a sham and it's just an excuse for the team to develop whoever they want on their list"? Maybe they had a similar list of costumes and K. Rool was on it? It would make sense...he was largely requested, but not in a quantifiable and relevance-trumping way like with the ballot. They'd have no reason to take him off of that list, even if they were still open to him through the ballot.

--K. Rool (and Chrom and Lloyd) were turned into costumes based on Japanese ballot requests, ones that they'd have easy access to, what with the lack of need for a translator. The latter two have better odds of having scored high in the Japanese poll (we have less knowledge about it, and their character type lends better to success over there). The global results, however, will be ultimately used for characters themselves, or else why open eleven different sites up for foreigners to put in votes?

I really don't think it would be effective to translate ALL of the ballot results. Some maybe but all of them would take forever. Maybe the readers would choose some of the most interesting to be translated or something but they probably arent translating multiple novels worth of votes.

Yeah, Sakurai considered Heihachi as the Namco rep for Smash, but he said that his moves "didn't translate well into Smash."
(Now there's a pre Smash 4 scrapped character I wouldn't mind having. I would definitely have to pit Ryu against Heihachi.)

IMO the outfit is to test the waters. Contrary to popular belief, most casuals don't vote or even know about the ballot. The immense majority of votes are from dedicated smash/nintendo fans. K.Rool is probably a surprise to Nintendo, this "forgotten" character suddenly gets an immense ammount of votes and support from the fanbase, but he is unknown to most of the newer fans, so they get an outfit to see how he clicks with the casual fanbase, the biggest DLC buyers.
