I'm a King main but I've had trouble with ness/lucas for a while now. 2.6 mil gsp but I can get far into a match until I struggle to secure the kill. What's the insight?

And in general I've had trouble finishing a stock for a while now. I can do a lot of things but securing a kill isn't something I'm good at. What am I missing?

As for the struggle against Lucas and ness, I can confirm that it’s a matchup problem, not you. As for securing kills, try to edge guard more aggressively. K Rool has an amazing recovery and it is rare that he won’t make it back to the stage. But still be careful, as K Rool’s massive endlag on arrivals can also screw you over.

Yeah K Rool is the second heaviest and has an enormous hurtbox so it only makes sense that he has a matchup problem against fast projectile users like the PK kids. If you can read a PK fire punishing with down B is hilarious. Other than that try approaching from the air and abusing your armor since they have little power that thy can dish out fast enough to break armor other than their smash attacks.

Reflecting a PK Fire isn’t reallya reflect. It’s more of a “that fire pile hurts you not me” even though the actual fire didn’t move.

The projectile that starts the fire pile can be reflected.

I also agree that Ness is an absolute BEAST of a matchup against K Rool. His bat reflects crowns and balls, and aerial PK fire comes in at that 45° angle which K Rool doesn't usually have a ready response for. Plus PK Thunder 2 can break his belly armor.

One thing I've found effective against me when I go up against K Rool is that you can reflect the crown after I reflect it back at you. That's not usually something I expect to happen. Try to use your crown to jam Ness's landing options - If he's jumped twice already, toss it out under him so that he has to pay attention to its return, and then rush him. Ness is very floaty and momentum-based, so if you can get him distracted on both sides as he's trying to land then he'll probably stall out mid-field and you can go from there.

I can't even really get much practice in against him because, for better or worse, I don't run into him a lot in the queue. Krool's uniqueness of having so much power in projectiles certainly means that Ness, with his bat and his own unreflectable projectiles, certainly is gonna make me put work in. He does have a lot of specials where he's left fairly vulnerable, and his krool has a strong aerial in his nair, so I feel like there's something to work for here.

As a Ness main I don’t think I’ve ever lost to a K Rool so it’s not you. Once Ness gets in on you you’re just straight combo food for his grabs and aerials and once you’re in the air and offstage I’m not gonna let you land with PK Thunder. Your main objective in neutral is to avoid getting pk fired and to keep Ness off of you. Use your crown and your projectiles well and play super defensively, make Ness jump around and try to get Ness to make a mistake. Rack up percentages, make the Ness player make a mistake, then bury them

Problem is it’ll be really hard to do this against a good ness player
