But how do you train yourself in Melee?

I usually play Level 9 CPUs all the the time. (Haters gonna hate)

Discuss match-ups 3 days out the week. Play once every two weeks.

That's how I remember the basics and still able to keep up with the game. Only thing that doesn't keep up, but can easily be brought back through a few hours of play, is techskill.

Also playing against computers is bad.

^But I spose theyre ok if youve not really got anyone around, right?
Or would it be better just to go do it in training mode?

Training mode of fighting lvl 1 comps helps you move around more fluidly pretty much gets your tech skill up.

Playing people is really the best way to get better though.

play level 9s to learn how to combo the west coast

plug in 2 controls and just run around and learn tech skill for like 20 minutes

play with friends

go to a tournament once in a while

watch videos and pay attention to mindgames

tomahawk everything

double tomahawk if possible

and then theres the grand master quadruple triple ultra tomahawk

lol. tomahawks are the only important mindgames.
thunder combos are more important.

No I purly play in my head and do tech skill very level 1 cpus. I learn platforming as everyone and junk. I have a good feel for playing as everyone. really i train more as falco and marth than anyone esle easily but my pichu is much better due to me playing in my head. I sometimes play with my brother .

I think thinking carefully about how to play is sometimes better than playing it's self.

Playing people and watching videos are the best ways to improve.

I used to play even skilled players pretty much every day and found myself improving pretty fast.. but now I watch a lot less videos and play like once a week and can see how im not improving as much anymore. but after you get passed little road bumps and once you get into the game it gets harder and harder to improve imo.

Lvl 1 cpu's are my breakfast, youtube matches are my lunch, and match up study is my dinner.
