Just bought the Twin Snakes

Just bought Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes a few days ago. I'm hooked! I'd played the NES Metal Gear, but Solid is so cool! I'm on the easiest difficulty 'cause I'm a beginner, but I've almost beaten it. I'm going to have to do it again on a harder difficulty.

Does anyone know how to get the body armor in the furnace room? I know where it is, but I can't get back up after that. I decided to move on and fight Vulcan Raven, but just for the record, how do you do that?

I rented it, but I couldn't proceed after beating Revolver Ocelot because it requires you to read a code off the back of the game's actual case, which the video store does not include with the rental. I was so mad. Now I'm trying to find a copy to beat it.

Just be prepared for so called "Metal Gear Fans" to attack you playing Twin Snakes.
It's just funny when Mantis talks about the GC games that you played like Sunshine,Melee and Luigi's Mansion
Any ways the Time i played the remake was fun. Never got to play the original

Where did you get it? The only place I see it is on the internet for waaaay more than I'm willing to pay. As in, about $100.

Surprisingly, it was fun. No way near as much as the PSX one, that stuff is pure gold. This is more like copper, still nice to see in jewelry and appreciable, but not as much as it's big brother metal for obvious reasons.

I liked the gameplay of Twin Snakes, but HOTDAMM them cutscenes! The amoutn of times I burst out laughing at the pure lunacy of them... I prefer the less corny action movie MGS cutscenes by far.

I like cuddles.

I never got to play the original either. So yeah, to the people jealous of me, it was really hard to find. I looked for like two years, and I had to make a 30 minute drive to pick it up. What I did was check game stores close to me for a used copy. None of them had it, but one GameStop checked for copies in the area and found one.

Beat Metal Gear NES last night (finally) and now I'll probably beat Solid either today or tomorrow.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I remember the thing about Meryl's code. That was frustrating for me too because the last owner traded it in without the case so I had to look up her frequency.

Oh come on, you're kidding right? Even if you don't have the game case, it's a simple (but annoying) matter of trying every codec frequency until you get the right one. It would've taken 10 minutes at most!

Agreed! I enjoyed TTS, but the original MGS was by far much better.

Also, TTS implements MGS2's controls and first person view which was pretty cool on one level. But on the other hand, it made things like the Ocelot fight way too easy.

I just (as in, ten minutes ago) got a box set with the first three Metal Gear games in it, brand new, for $30.
I wasn't even looking for it, I just saw it in a KMart bargain bin.

...I feel sort of guilty now. :(

The Ocelot fight wasnt ruined by the First Person Aiming. They ruined the fight by making Ocelot much slower, meaning you can basically run behind him and plug him full of holes.

I dunno, the FPV made headshots on Ocelot an easy thing to do... and considering how much damage each one does, the fight can end REAL quick. The battle with Raven in the tank also suffers from this, but I still enjoyed that one a lot anyway.

I'm impressed this thread on the 'dreaded' Twin Snakes hasn't turned into a "true" MGS fan flame war. Bravo internet!!

Lmao, i could be one of those people... But i wont.

Its just great to see new people playing the series that we hardcore fans have loved and grown up with, even if they dont play it how it was originally made. They can still get the same experience.

I recommend buying a cheap PS2 and playing MGS2 and MGS3, then going over to someone who has alot of moneys house and playing 4 on their PS3.

The series is deffinatly the best series of video games i have ever played. You really get attached to the Characters and the storylines, which as you play through the whole story just gets deeper and deeper. Their are links from MGS4 all the way back to MGS1, which are so small but a true fan would notice it.

As for the people who have played the NES version, well... its not really the same experience :)
Played it on an emulator i presume?

I played the two originals (Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) on the MGS3 Subsistence bonus disc. They were relatively fun, even if they didn't have much to do with MGS1-4 (though there was some relevant stuff, including Snake's meeting Big Boss and Gray Fox, as well as the Colonel's first appearance).

Also, I definitely agree that it is the best video game series out there, by far.

Hm, I am considering buying a PS3 just for MGS4 and Street Fighter IV. But a PlayStation 2 on top of that? Okay so there are more titles I'd be interested in, like Kingdom Hearts and Castlevania, but that would be a little over the top in my opinion.

Yeah, I played it with an emulator. Console Classix. It's a pretty good site. If you're into emulators, check it out. I enjoyed the NES version. I've heard that the MSX version was better, but hey, take what you can get.

Oh, and I beat Twin Snakes yesterday. I'm going to go through it again on a higher difficulty, but first I want to finish Pikmin, and Twilight Princess (I'm in the same boat as Gimpyfish)

Started my second playthrough on Normal (despite not having finished any of the games I wanted to beat first). I just beat Ocelot. I think it was someone on this thread, but one complaint I heard was that first person view made his fight too easy. That hadn't occurred to me the first time, but I gave it a go this time and found: that's right. Ocelot's too easy with first person view. It almost ruins the fight because you can stay in the same place, and therefore not worry about killing the ArmsTech president. :urg::ohwell:
I'm loving the bandana though. It's kind of awesome having unlimited ammo for the SOCOM and C4.

First of, congratulations on getting hooked on MGS, it's good to always see another Smash player try and giving MGS a try.

but just in case you haven't gotten the Buller Proof armor down in the Blast Furnace I will elaborate on how to access it,

first of get to the elavator, (the one that was disabled) once you've got it working go all the way down and reach the door just before going in to the "other" room which leads to Vulcan Raven, once at the door, you should face toward the opposite side of the door and there should be some kind of secret entrance I guess you got to either crouch ionce you see a steam room you'll know you're on the right track, anyway get past the steam room into the other opening and voila you just acquired a Bullet Proof vest.

you got the Bandana huh, I see you managed to rescue Meryl but just in case you would have failed or submitted to Ocelot's torturing
you would have received Otacon's "Stealth Camouflage"

btw, if you own a PS1 (or PS2), you should really give the original Metal Gear Solid a try, sure it may have crappy graphics, but the songs just kick butt, I also recommend you play MGS2: Sons of Liberty which is the game where Snake got his Brawl design from.

I have a gif of Snake doing the ridiculously over the top flip just to get to the other side of a door somewhere...

My friend and I deemed that possibly the funniest cutscene ever. Since we both have hobbies of sneaking into places we shouldn't be just for the thrill, we often get to make jokes about when caught at an open door with people in the room.

"We should just Hyper Snake Jump it!"

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to try it when I get there again. I haven't had much time to play since school's started; all I've been able to do is beat Ocelot and 'rescue' the ArmsTech president.

I don't have a PS1 or 2, but I do want to try the other Metal Gear Solids. The one thing I didn't like about Twin Snakes was that the music had been screwed with. I didn't hear the Cavern, or Encounter music from Brawl, the Game Over theme was different, and I only heard the Metal Gear Solid theme if I had been spotted in the Armory. :(

EDIT: That gif would be nice indeed. Please post it.
