Dear Smashboards:
So, today I was playing a really annoying kaillera kirby- you know the kind, "no hablo ingles" followed by backseat hosting and picking Sector Z. Anyways, the thing about this guy is, he beat my falcon. badly. Then he beat my pikachu. I honestly have no idea why; I'm suppressing the memories. At this point, I was struggling not to john/ragequit, so I did the next best thing- I played DK and used the infinite throw trap (Fthrow/Cargo-wait for them to struggle free-Fthrow/cargo. repeat ad nauseam until you get the % necessary for a backthrow kill. Waddaya know, it worked like a charm- five stocked the little lagging bugger, and he goes off in a huff.

What I want to know is this- should I continue this against annoying kirby's?

Arguments for:

-Solves your problem

-Salvages your pride

-Amuses you

Arguments against:

-Leads to conflict

-You're taking the game too seriously :ohwell:

-Passivity-no fun

-You could just not play people who you can't stand

-Kirby is a legit character, he's part of the game, etc. etc.

-Throw trap can be escaped and then you look like an ***hat

-Being a **** is uncool

If you feel like you're having fun and wouldn't be having more fun playing someone else, then continue playing. If not, quit (although you're a ***** if you take this to the extreme :p).

I tend to hate play styles (passive, campy) more than specific characters. Most Kirbys are either pretty aggressive (except for in matches vs. other slow approachers, like Puff, Samus, or in ditto matches), so I usually don't mind fighting them. Playing against someone who only chooses one character gets old fairly fast though.

Infinite throw trap is the only technique that think is truly broken, and I would like to see, to some extent, be banned.

If he was a giant douche, leaving just as you beat him and telling everybody that *you* ragequit, then going kthxbai no re...no real problem in gaying him.

But if he wasn't, you should feel bad for using homo tactics.

Personally, be gay against kirby all you want. Playing as kirby isn't even fun at non-noob levels so he obviously has the intent of playing gay as well. Have no mercy for anyone that picks that character with the most broken move in the game. All kirby players will eventually use their tools, why shouldn't you?

PS. My usage of gay = annoying and boring

No mercy on Kirbys. None whatsoever.

Of course, you should work on your Pikachu and Falcon as well...

So, mixed reactions. dch11 makes the most pertinent point, of course, but some people say BAN!, some people say ineffective, some people say NO MERCY!, some people say don't be a ****. Personally, I think I'll use this in the future, but only on the extreme end of the kirby spectrum (real ***holes, not just annoying players) under the banner of "There's no such thing as cheap, right Kirby player? So I can use any technique and character I want, right?".

Or I could just be a better player. Either way.

Learn to beat Kirbys without a tactic that won't work at higher level play.
This.

While I highly suggest you use this against any kirby that's boring to play, it's pretty much a binary tactic (a one trick pony, IE it either works 100% or not at all). Once a kirby player learns to get out of it, you actually need to rely on superior spacing and more careful approaches/defenses.

Woah, blondekid. Come on now. It is the case that people who don't speak english are very often laggers/annoying and poor players. That is a stereotype, I suppose, but I wouldn't be annoyed by a polite spanish speaker who tried his best to make himself understood (considering it's an NY based server, I think the onus is on him) rather than saying annoying and stupid things like "go" "start" and "jajajajajaja" to the point where I am stymied both by the language barrier and their lack of communication skill. I'm pretty sure that if the only good smash server were in spanish, I would learn sufficient spanish phrases (the equivalents of DS, Start?, gg, nice, teams? etc.) to make myself understood in most instances.

No one is forced to learn english just because they are using a server in the USA. Sure it helps, but you can't force anyone to.

Some tricks I use to communicate with people who speak another language:

1. I speak both French and English, so I try to figure out what they are saying from similar words in French and English.

2. If I end up playing against someone who's spanish (or another language), I open google translator, take their message, run it through that. If they don't understand english, I take my message, run it through translator, and type the other language message in the chat. Sure it may take more work, but it saves any comminucation problems.

true enough, that works, and if I was playing someone in something other than a one-off kaillera set, I'd do that. But most of the time, There's really nothing to say other than "do you speak english" "can you fix your lag?" and "gtg", all of which should be either self explanatory or, in the case of the lag, obvious.

you know the kind, "no hablo ingles". your a *******, just stop typing.
I honestly don't think I was being racist. Let me say, just to make it clear, that I have no problem with Spanish speakers of any nationality, nor do I believe them to be in any way inferior. I may have phrased it in a clumsy or overly blunt way, but my point was not that people of any nationalities or ethnicities are annoying or bad people- it was that we get a lot of annoying spanish speakers on Galaxy 64. That's just the truth, and I'm not going to speculate on why it's so. I do not think that kirby playing morons from spanish-speaking countries (not that all kirby players are morons) are representative of their entire country, and nor do I think that all annoying players are spanish-speakers. I merely observe, without judging anyone, that we do get a lot of annoying spanish speakers on Galaxy 64.

So if you would stop insulting me in your charming and brief way, blondekid, I'd appreciate it. I'm neither a racist nor a "*******" (whatever that is), and I don't like being called either. I've tried to explain myself and my mistake, and you're really just being rude at this point. I've never noticed you taking offense when people use racial or homophobic slurs on this forum; I don't see why this misunderstanding has got you so riled up.

Apologies for the overlong and not-on-topic post. So, how 'bout that Infinite throw trap?

Oh, and for those of you who haven't seen it, here's a demonstration of the trap when used "properly".
