No offense anyone, but this is to the smashers that I know. Smashers have been calling me by my real name. And I try to act like I don't care, but it REALLY pisses me off. I find it very degrading. Its basically like saying "Hahaha, you're so scrubby...what's your smash name?" So please, anyone IRL that knows me, CALL ME POYO NOT MY REAL ****ING NAME ****!

Honestly, it makes me feel so ****ty.

Why would you think that? Unless someone's smash alias is a catchy nickname, i'll always refer to some smashers by their name. There are plenty of smashers here in Canada that are refered by the community by their first name. These aren't noob players either by the way. Almost everyone calls MikeMonkey "Mike" instead of his actual alias for example. It's not a big deal, and it's not a sign of disrespect. :/

Some of the smashers at my tournaments call me Obama or Inferno and neither one is actually my "smash name". Inferno is just my board alias and Obama is just my user title in the game. I prefer to be spoken to by my real name, I don't see why that would bother anyone unless your name was something like Dickgrafe

If they put in the effort to learn and remember your real name, i think they're showing more respect to you.

It's kind of too late now for them to change what they call you anyway.

Though with new smashers just don't ever tell them you're real name. Some people I've smashed with for months and they never learned my real name, lol. Sometimes i never learn theirs, which makes me feel bad. v_v

I always call everyone by their real name . . . unless we aren't friends, or I don't know their name. Then I call them by their tag.

However, lots of people call me Daniel, lots of people call me Pierce. Both are merely devices to identify me and catch my attention, and I find no reason to get picky over it whatsoever. I feel calling Smasher's by their real name is positive for the relationship between the players. It keeps what happens in the game, separate from real life, and shows a connection with other players outside of the game.

Course, if you're still adamant in being upset about this, I suggest you post it in your regional zone. Most people you know aren't going to read this thread.

Who cares, a game is a game. You can't be Poyo for the rest of your life...

Or can you?

Well... long time ago people would shorten "rudementry" to "rude", and that made me angry, but I politely asked all my friends (at the time) to just call me rud or ruddy. Well, when I got into competitive smashing when people read my name "ruddy" they started calling me "rudey" (mispernunciation, which I used to not like because it derived from rude not rud). At first I was really annoyed, but soon the name "rudey" just kinda caught on and I began to like it a lot. It was just an honest mistake that made me come to like being called "rudey". :p

Anyway, what I would recommend, is just politely (but seriously) ask them to call you poyo. If they don't, then they're not really your friends. They should respect what you want to be called. Personally when I bring rl friends (if they don't already call me rud or ruddy, some do) they'll call me by my real name. I'll just remind them to call me ruddy once or twice and they'll stop.
