From my understanding, you cannot Waveland by dodging. Dodging is Momentum-Based, you'll just land normally. It has to be done with attacks that pull you in a certain direction and the new L-Cancel, like Bowser's Bair.Yes, it is still in, but the way you have to execute the airdodge is different. The direction you are traveling in is the direction you will airdodge. Meaning if you jump and airdodge immediatly, you will fly into the air with your dodge.
Meaning, you can only waveland.

basicaly, there is another form of wave dashing(called momentum dodgeing) but its not as effective.wavedashing isnt in brawl, because of the whole lack of directional air dodges. this has been known for quite a while.
there is, like mentioned above, momentum dodging, also using some arial attacks that send you in a certain direction in brawl, and when landed can make your character slide along the ground.
also, lke mentioned above, a character with a jump cancel may be able to wavedash, but just not in the same sense as in melee.
