Is marth an aggressive, defensive, tactician, ariel expert, mixed in between two different things. I don't know what he would be, so any examples would help. Also who exactly would marth be best against and worst against? Is marth best against some and worst against others?

hes really floaty (aerial).... he has long range(agressive).... he has good recovery(tactician) and he has a counter (defensive)... he has an excellent wavedash(technician).... shffl makes him almost lagless(aggressive\defensive\technician)
so he could be whatever you want him to be man

sorry for double post....
but i find marth to be best against characters with a smaller range than him.... and also fastfallers... mmm chaingrab...
but worst against longe rangers lyke samus, falco and for some reason sheik....
marth is fairly balanced however and can pull a win in most matchups thats why he is a high tier IMO....
you should check the character matchup guide in mellee discusion.... phanna does a good job... hope that helps

I say more so defensive in that he tries to keep a precise distance from his opponent so he can get tippers and prevent his opponent from pulling any good moves. If your good, you could be aggressive etc, but I still think Marth works better as watching and responding to what your opponent does, not trying to constantly beat up and trick them out.

Another word man. Azen.

Azen and Ken are good examples of great Marth's with completely different playstyles. Azen is deffensive while Ken is aggressive. Take your pick

Marth is anything you want it to be just play the way you feel comfortable. Don't try to copy someone else's style cause you will PHAIL.

Marth is best against himself and worst against himself. Marth >>>>>>> Marth

Marth can be any one of those depending on how you use him. I think that he has a mixture of aggro/control due to the fact that a decent Marth can be aggressive, but control the spacing between him and his foe so well that they're controlling the tempo of the fight . In the end, it will be the your experiences with Marth through battle that will mold and define your own style of play.

I think it depends on the opponent. If the opponent is extremely technical and maybe not so mind game based, I think defense is way more important. And cheapkills are vital, very few extremly technical FF players manage to DI extremly well. Apart from M2K and some other pro's of course, but there's a limit of who you can beat by just being an average Marth player. More mind game inspired players are tricky, you need to ***** extremely much with spacing and u-tilt ---> airs, instead of trying to grab your opponent 24/7. Not saying you can't do either, but this is just my point of view vs. certain play styles.

It definately depends on the opponent such as if your playing a fox its is easier to make mistakes with fox than marth so a defensive play style would probably better in that situation. Also it helps if you know who you are playing against if you can get inside their head or not. If you can defensive usually annoys ppl more.

My style of Marth is aggressive, but I get mindgamed far too easily >.>;;. I think Marth's sword gives him the range, priority, and speed to be a very aggressive character, but just make sure you space properly so that you get that final tipper to end the stock; if you whiff, you're going to be severely punished.
