Being someone thats had alot of hours played in basic brawl, MK can get torn up pretty quickly. East coast is the way to go, but if the lag is that bad then just drop out. Friend wise, get some good players on your friends list like i have and challenge them. Thats how you get better is through those 1 on 1 matches.
Actually, make a schedule with them and ask them to play you a few times a week. Thats the best case scenario. Your game will get better as long as you practice.
Now if you decide to actually play Basic Brawl heres some tips;
1. Survivability. -- Thats how you win any basic brawl match. As long as you don't die your good to go. So keep an eye on how much damage you have.
2. Items. -- use and abuse them.
3. Make rivals -- We all know about those horrible players out there, but occasionally there is some really exceptional talent. Get them to notice you by playing well and winning matches. They'll most likely come to challenge you!
-----Take notes; when your fighting a good rival, take notice of what makes them successful. Are they using a combo or move set you've never seen before? Be vigilant and keep and eye out for the cool tricks they preform.
4. Make friends -- On the off chance that your doing really well, people might tag team with you! It pays to not always be an *******, and tag teaming in basic brawl can get REALLY fun and exciting. 2 player tag teams are harder to come by, generally i end up seeing about 3 people teaming up against 1 player.
5. Taunt parties-- Crash them or make them. Your choice. All you have to do is be passive.
Check nintendos website for more information on using a wireless router to connect your wii to the internet. You cannot play online matches well at all if your connection is crappy.
Sinz does bring up a good point, you should always critique yourself and strive for a better flawless game from yourself.
