Cause I like to have a basic sense of communication when needed. But when it shows the actual people brawling, they look all serius and don't talk. Is it against smash edicate or whatever to talk with your partner during a Brawl about strategie?

Well I think that it is allowed (not sure) IMO you need to be in full sync with your partner once you and you're partner mastered that you can do combos without talking.

Unfortunately, I can't do that. I'm going to a tourney soon, and since none of my friends are going, I'm teaming with a guy I don't know.

Talking works fine.

"HEY GUY I NEED HELP HERE"

Seems to be all that's needed.

Basic English while keeping basic concentration. You don't need to whisper or anything like that.

Be aware of the human side of things though, some players (I often do) fall apart or make huge mistakes while being talked to. In other words, you discuss strategy before the match and keep short phrases/words to the match itself.

Thanks. Cause I've never been to a tournie before, and I really don't want to make a fool of myself... other than getting my casual butt pwned

I like to scream and cry a whole bunch and smack our opponents whenever possible :D I don't really think it helps much but it makes me feel better

Talking is fine.
Unless your opponent is all uptight about it and tells you to stfu.

Simple stuff is all that's needed.
"Switch plz" - partners exchange opponents.
"halp" - help.
"HALP" - help him recover.
"Share stock Q_Q" - he's dead and wants you to lend him a stock. Commonly followed by "lol no."
"Now" - dual grab release infinite, or wobbling with 2 people.

That's usually all I need to say.

yeh you should talk to each other about tactics before you start and try to let him know when you need to switch opponents

You should be at the point where you don't need to talk to your opponent to function properly. In your case though, you can't help that, so basic phrases can be used. I don't think there's any rule against it, unless you are screaming at your opponent trying to distract them.

Talk if you need to but if your talking stratigies then your foes will know your secrets. Also it distracts you if you talk.
