Is anyone else here not all that interested in the GameCube adapter?

I can live with a tiny imperceptible amount of input lag. I've been using the Gamepad since I got the thing, in lowest brightness and power-saving mode. Works like a charm and lasts 4-5 hours. I've just never felt a need to buy additional accessories (Wii U Pro included), and I don't go to tourneys. I've gotten used to it and now find it superior to the GameCube pad. Anyone else just sticking with a Gamepad, Pro Controller, or their old Wiimotes/nunchuks?

I'm planning on getting the bundle. I didn't already have a preorder since I don't preorder until a date is announced, and while I was originally going to be happy to just play on a Pro-Controller, since the option to use a more familiar playstyle is available, I see no reason to take it, though I will give the Pro a try. Besides, I've wanted to replace my Gamecube controller with the slightly defective joystick for a while (even if it was the one that came with my original system). I'm also quite confident my friends will want to use the Gamecube controllers, so even if in the end I move on from them, I'd still want an adapter for hosting game nights at my place.

I was all set to get a pro controller and just get used to it. But then they announced this thing.

And seeing as how I have five perfectly good GCN controllers, there's no point in me making the switch.

From both an economical and playability standpoint, I might as well get the adapter.

If you don't go to tournaments, you won't get it. Playing in a tournament setting, the gamepad is just not an option since everyone can't use one at once (will smash even support two at once?). You also have the issue that you don't have to deal with syncing, and even better, the biggest sync issue is two people trying to do it at once on two different consoles so the adaptor actually helps everyone, including those who won't use it.

I was upset when the adapter was announced because it means that now I won't be able to win every match against everyone in the whole wide world when the game comes out.

I've had a lot of experience with Wiimote and Nunchuck at tournaments. I just take a battery out after my set is done and it lets me save my control scheme so I don't have to waste as much time and I can yell at the guy near the Wii to hit the sync button so I don't have to lean over cords and chairs. I can also play the game with my hands behind my back and make people not be able to find who's operating the second character on the screen. Long live Wiichuck.

Well, it was a big deal for competitive players, but I personally will play with the Wii U pro controller.

I feel like the Wii U Pro Controller is a controller trying to work like every other controller with it's button layout, whereas the Gamecube controller was more specialized from the start. That controller was MADE from the ground up for games like Mario Sunshine, Melee, and Luigi's Mansion. On top of that, it's what we're all familiar with since 2001, it's much cheaper than a 50 dollar Pro controller, and it's wired(thus less input lag), which is a big deal for competitive players.

That's why I'm one of the people that's going for the Gamecube controller, and just for the lower price and specialization alone I'd still suggest that, unless you already have plenty of classic/pro controllers. Those will surely do fine, but personally I think it's cruel to give your friends your Wiimote to play with.

It's hard not to be interested when Nintendo literally gave us the one thing we have always wanted, but never imagined in the a million years thought would happen. I'm ****ing ecstatic about it.

I bought a Pro Controller to settle for something similar, but after the announcement, I won't look at it again as an option. While it is good for other games, the pro controller and any other controller option for that matter was immediately deemed useless for smash following that announcement.

I have been practicing with the classic controller, but now I ... I guess, well, thanks Nintendo! That was really cool of you

I still am playing with the classic controller out of necessity though. Wii bricked, Wii U steps in. It's still keeping me on top of my future 3DS usage :)

I think I will buy it, but I can live without it. I am just so used to playing Smash with the GC controller, but if I had to I could just use the game pad. I probably won't be getting the pro controller now though.

Yeah you're probably right there. Even if I'm fine with the gamepad. I haven't played Melee in years (except to unlock everything again) and when I first played Brawl I used the Nunchuk + wiimote combo.

Honestly always got annoyed by the fact that with every new console, Nintendo changed how controllers were designed. it's nice to have a familiar controller when playing a game instead of trying to get used to a new design. I can do it, I just prefer not to.

The GameCube is my favorite controller and is such a natural fit for Smash Bros.
...That being said, I don't think I will purchase it. It's a convenience thing, really. Where my Wii U is situated above my TV, I'd have very little room for the adapter and the GCN wires would hang in front of the screen. I'm also not the only one who uses the TV, so the GamePad will make it so much easier to play on my own time.

Through the years of Smash, I've adapted to what controller came next. Because each Nintendo system is built around the controller, it's easier to go with whatever main input device the company had in mind.

Before the adapter anouncement, I was looking foward to buy a Pro Controller to play Smash 4 with it since it looked like a comfy choice and I was ready to leave the Meele past behind.
And now, people are asking for Nintendo to release a Gamecube controller adapter FOR THE 3DS. Geez guys.

When I played Melee, the amount of buttons on the gamecube controller was more than the controller I use now (the classic controller). But back then I had small hands and reaching buttons (LR) with my small hands were frustrating. Now I hold the classic controller it feels great!! So I'm pretty happy to try the gamecube controller once more with bigger grown up hands, and if my hands are too small, I can just slide my greasy hands across the controller like those pros!

Well, it's not just input lag we're talking about here. The most important thing in my opinion is the controller shape/size as well as button layout. And I know you said you won't go, but when there are going to be multiple consoles and controllers at tournaments, having the adapter prevents wireless interference since it is completely wired.

The input lag is imperceptible. Competitive fighting game fans worry about it because it exists and isn't 0 ms, but that doesn't mean it's significant enough to matter. If you want to cut down on lag....the gamepad screen is almost certainly faster than your HDTV believe it or not.

Absolutely for tournaments.

While that may be true, the Wii U can only support one gamepad at a time. You can't even get one unless you send it to Nintendo needing a replacement. I don't think smashers want to gather around one player either.

Truth be told, the reason I'm so interested in getting the bundle/deal is so I can have good GC controllers for other games.

Likely still going to get/use the adapter for convenience, but I'm once again looking to reprise my Wiichucks for actually playing Sm4sh.

True, my main point is that a little bit of input lag is undesirable, but isn't the end of the world, and people live with it on their HDTV's all the time. If someone wins with a GameCube controller against someone who used a Wii U Pro Controller, it probably won't be input lag's fault.

The interference in a tournament setting sure is a problem though, yeah.

Once it is released, along with Smash, it'll be a day 1 purchase for me. Ever since my Wii (2009 model) began having difficulties reading my SSBB disc somewhere in 2013, I ended purchasing a Wii U as a replacement in order to continue playing SSBB. Unfortunately, the GC controller that I have long since used and grown accustomed to is no longer an option, so I've settled with the Classic Pro Controller. While a worthy substitute for my GC controller, my experience with it wasn't all that great.

I main Ike and I find it rather annoying that, for any character, whenever I want to use special attacks that involved charging (i.e. Quick Draw) the attacks would often charge partially and then the rest of the animation would proceed by itself despite my finger being held on the button. This is especially fatal in competitive matches; for instance, if I get sent far off-stage as Ike and start charging Quick Draw to recover, there are times when the move doesn't charge as long as I wanted it to and ends up being released on its own. Is this what people call "wireless interference"? The controller is excellent when it works, though the GC controller I still find ideal for a game like Smash Bros.

*sigh* It would be a real joy to experience Smash with the GC controller again.

^-^

I'll probably get it so I have a format to use in comp. matches, but for casuals/beating the game, I'll go with Wii U Pro.

Are there an evidence that there are some form of input lag on the Gamepad? Because I don't see it. The Wii U's GPGPU was designed for low-latency connection and streaming. The Wii U also uses Bluetooth V4.0 (PS4 uses 2.1).

I've had my Wii U since 2012 and have never ran into any input lag issues. And certainly not with the gamepad. That thing is streaming everything 1:1

I know I'm getting one. I have a Wii U pro, and I've gotten some mileage out of it with Mario Kart 8 and Tropical Freeze, but the GameCube controller just feels so... right in my hands.

To me personally, the GC adapter doesn't really matter. The way I have things set up is all in the living room (Fun Fact: I don't have a bedroom of my own.) And the living room is pretty wide so I usually sit far back on the couch. Having a wired setup would have me be sitting uncomfortably close to the TV so the controllers would reach and that's just no good. And no I don't own a Wavebird.

But I'm glad it's an option for all you guys who wanted it so much. Congrats to you guys. I'll be using either Wiimote and Nunchuck or getting used to Gamepad/Pro Controller, though that might need some tweaking on button layout.

Still the adapter is only $20 and a Smash styled GC controller for $30 would be pretty cool. Over the years I'm only left with one GC controller after the years of my sister's abuse with rage quitting (she's broken two controllers) so I'll probably pick it up anyways but it's not a necessity for me.

I'll adapt to whatever controller I need to.

.... Just not Wiimote sideways. That shouldn't even be an option....

The GCN controller was cozy in my hands, but I'll always prefer the A B X Y button arrangement that began on the SNES; so even if I were to play the Wii U version, I'd be content with Wii U controllers of any kind and I wouldn't spend top dollah on the GCN controller adapter.
I'll adapt to whatever controller I need to.
That's the spirit! Don't buy an adapter, be the adapter.

Agreed.

I really mainly want it so I have a wired controller to use so I wouldn't have to worry very much about the batteries and input lag. I would have been just fine with adapting to a different controller if I had to but okay.

I wouldn't really want a "Gamecube Adapter" for the 3DS though because that would kinda just get a bit ridiculous now imo. :/

I am really excited about the GCN controller adapter. What I really want is for it to be compatible with wii games so I can use my gamecube controller to play brawl on the wii u. Also I'd like nintendo to trow in a second z button on their new smash controller like a lot of third parties did.

Presumably your fridge.
I'm less interested in it for Smash (though I do plan to play in a tournament or two) and am more interested in the prospect that GCN VC has a higher chance of happening now.

I'm not only interested, I want it to work on future WiiU games as well as be patched into MK8.

For ****ing about with friends, classic pro/ wii u pro. Serious/competitive play definitely GameCube.
I like that Nintendo added it, but I don't think they're gonna support it next gen.

How the heck is this garbage, troll bait, unnecessary thread left without a lock while all those great gameplay threads from E3 and Best Buy demos with mostly good discussion were locked=???

To answer the question: I had 10 seconds of wireless lag from the demo in Smash 3DS and some noticeable controller lag. Also, personal preference.

Really, it's sad that this is really the state of these boards.

It shows where the people who use these boards have their priorities lies... complaining about people who like the controller Melee's and Brawl's controller instead of talking about how much they like the other controller options.

I'm interested in it because frankly, it's what I'm used to and the second stick placement isn't awkward at all.

Also, I must admit that I wasn't fond of buying four new controllers when I had remnants of the GC era that worked still fine.

I'm not getting it. It's a waste of money when the Wii U has already a much better controller.

I'm the only one with a Wii U out of my friends so not having to buy 3 pro controllers is great. That's $100 for the game, a new GCN controller, and the adapter versus $210 for 3 pro controllers and the game. So hell yeah I'm excited for the adapter.
