If they are doing veterans only, then captain falcon, and maybe ganondorf. Newcomers: Rosalina, greininja, little mac, and possibly ridley if they have him out by then. Also wouldn't be funny if they did a live action trailer to introduce them? We wanted to introduce our contestants the smash brothers way!

If one of the people playing are smart, they'll choose Little Mac. Not because he's OP, but because nobody will have the time to learn the matchup. Little Mac looks and sounds a lot like Ike in that regard, if you don't know the matchup properly you're going to be cloppered, but once you know how to handle the character he becomes a ton easier. I don't think Little Mac will be all that great in competitive play because of this, but for a first-time tourney like this he's at his absolute best. Remember that it's a lot easier to quickly learn how to play a character than it is to learn how to play against a character.
but you also have to put the time in to learn how a character works. it would probably be better to play as someone you're familiar with from previous games, like marth, since the way his moves link together probably won't change (stuff like f throw f smash would probably work).

As far as newcomers go, Greninja is the safest one to go with in my opinion. Rosalina's a character that will take a little while to understand fully. Mega Man doesn't have many physical attacks, he seems like he'll struggle vs. players/characters who are good at defense. Wii Fit Trainer won't take too long to get used to, but it might take a while to understand her strengths. Little Mac seems easy to play at first, but that air game is going to be rough to get around. Villager... I have no idea. He looks terrible and OP at the same time. Players will probably be drawn away from him due to his crazy move set.

I'm only teasing. No need to get upset. I still love you.

And I'm saying Little Mac looks good 'cause his side special has FRIGGIN' INVINCIBILITY FRAMES. He's got a lot of potential. I was only using the trailer as evidence 'cause you WANTED evidence. <3
Those aren't invincibility frames, that's super armor. Good luck dealing with grabs, though.

Nobody is going to say Fox? Really? A lot of you guys underestimate the value of familiarity. Granted, Marth is being mentioned, but I believe you need to be a little bit nuanced to the gravity and other things.

I want to Say Marth will most likely take the cake. Marth has had the least amount of adjustments in past smash games making him somewhat reliable, has a huge fan base making him an attractive choice. Players may flock to the newcomers when it comes to trying out the game but when it comes to winning a tournament players will tend to gravitate to the familiar options. If a newcomer were to win the gold however, I would put my bets on Megaman. He seems well-rounded with some good camping potential that will allow the user some control over the speed and flow of the match (allowing for the player to adjust and evolve their strategy as need be).

I have my doubt about Little Mac. If this invitational becomes some crazy zany free-for-all then sure. However in a one-on-one Little Mac's strengths and weakness are highly blunt. The problem with this is that players using Mac will have to not only learn how to play Mac but have to deal with his blatant weaknesses that the opponent will no doubt be abusing. Also we have to consider the importance of arial attacks in Smash bros up to this point. Smashers are conditioned to fully integrate arial attacks into their ground game as well as their arial game. This is why L-cancelling and SHFFLing was so big in melee. A character with a crappy air game will have trouble with approach. If DACUS returns as a tool Mac can utilize than that may help his case, but as of now I see him having trouble taking to the offense to any knowledgeable player without being .

I wouldn't contradict that guy so quickly. There's no hitlag or effect when he passes through the buster shot, so it at least has projectile invincibility.
A jolt haymaker in a 1v1 situation is impractical unless you can get a hell of a read. The cool down on the attack could easily make you susceptible to a shield grab or up B out of shield. From that point Marth just has to up throw him. And since air dodges appear to be the same as they were in Brawl, Marth can just bait air dodges a frame trap Mac since his aerial options are limited.

Mac Excells on the ground, but against a character like Marth who is good at almost everything, it's not gonna look good for him.

Playing with an unfamiliar character is guaranteeing a loss. The opponent may not know the match-up, but at least they have a better idea on how control their character. I would be very surprised if any newcomer ranks.

I think there's potential for an equally skilled, equally experienced Little Mac to do as well as an equally skilled, equally experienced Marth at high levels on any stage where he isn't constantly forced to chase the Marth into the air. Little Mac doesn't look committed to long lag on the ground, so it would definitely play out like waiting for an opening between Marth's short hops, like in an actual boxing match, but much to the detriment of building his neutral meter. Marth's disjointed aerial assault might be too good though.

We weren't talking about a hypothetical Marth vs Mac matchup, I was just telling you that side B has projectile invincibility.
However, I also think that Marth would lose the matchup, especially early in the game's life. Marth's slow and precise moves are setup-based and situational. A new, fast character with armoured moves would call for a radically different playstyle.
