Ambien CR - No joke, you won't be able to move shortly after taking it.

Sounds exciting! My doctor also might prescribe me these pills that he claims are used by astronauts. No idea why he said that, or why they're used by astronauts, but it sounds cool.

They're for people who have trouble falling asleep, instead of staying asleep. Basically, they just knock you out instantly. If you need to wake up 3 hours later, you won't feel drugged or anything. I forgot what they were called though. :(

I just like the concept of using astronaut pills.

I'm not really an insomniac, but I get less sleep than the average person (4-5 hours, normally). I just don't like going to sleep, and after an hour or so of consciousness the next morning I feel fully awake, anyway.

Sometimes I will sleep around the clock, but most of the time I'm getting 9 or 10 hours of sleep on weekends. On weekdays, about 7 or 8 hours of sleep.

It's strange though, because if I stay the night at my house, I usually get alot more sleep than when I stay the night at someone elses. Even if I intend on staying up at my house I usually end up falling asleep earlier.

My advice to you would be to get some medication to help you out, and if it doesn't, try losing yourself in thought. It also helps out alot to fall asleep in complete darkness.

Thanks for all the suggestions and commiserating, guys.

HUGO, I've never had sleep paralysis, but it sounds mad scary. Hang in there.

Xsyven, those astronaut pills sound awesome. I'm hoping that if I can get to sleep quickly, I'll sleep a lot more. I usually wake up around 7:00am, no matter what time I fall asleep. I might even get a full night's sleep every night with something like that. Although, my past experiences with sleeping pills have been unproductive. But these astronaut pills sound different. I assume they're used to help the astronauts get sleep at any time of the day so that they can comply to the wacky schedule for fixing things and doing experiments and stuff.

I've been trying to exercise more lately, but I think I'm getting sick, as in generally not healthy. It's probably because I eat so horribly--nobody ever makes me meals anymore, and I hate to cook. If there's no easily accessible food in the fridge, I just go hungry. I don't think I've had any real protein in about a week.

That's pretty sad, when you think about it.

Lately, since school is off, I have just been not sleeping. It's not so bad. I feel so unproductive while I sleep anyway. Two weeks ago for Thanksgiving I slept 13 hours from Thursday to Monday to do a report.

Jammer, I don't want to re-read everything, but have you tried Xanax? It's more of an anxiety pill than anything, but it'll put you to sleep.

Anyway, I tried out my two sample prescriptions.

I would definitely recommend Ambien CR to anyone. It took a bit longer than I'd hope to kick in, (two hours one night...) but once it hit, it was easier to fall asleep than I could've hoped. And for some reason, I'd always wake up happy. No idea why, maybe it was just a coincidence.

I have yet to have a good experience with my Rozerom. It never made me feel tired in the slightest. What it DID do, was make me stay asleep once I was asleep, making me miss my 8 o'clock class twice. I still have one more pill, but I don't know if I want to bother.

I have not tried Xanax. That might actually be a good medicine for me, because it's usually my racing thoughts that keep me awake, and I assume that an anti-anxiety medication will calm them down. I'll ask my doctor the next time I see her.

Ambien CR doesn't work for me. And Rozerom is probably the worst one for me. It gave me vertigo and a foggy, sludgy feeling, but it didn't help me sleep.

I think my body has countermeasures against any kind of tranquillizer or sleep-aid. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out, the dentist said he gave me near the maximum recommended amount of whatever tranquillizer he used (I don't remember). I still felt each tooth crack (it didn't hurt though) and I was reading a magazine one minute after they brought me back to consciousness. I remember excitedly chatting up the nurse like I had 20 cups of coffee (with tons of gauze in my mouth).

Jammer, if you look at your clock, it's all over. Once you decide to go to bed you shouldn't open your eyes until you wake up.
Easier said than done, my friend. I usually see what time it is when I go to bed, and lately I've been very good about not looking at the clock. It is pretty much impossible to keep your eyes closed, though. It seems like they open up on their own, and you find yourself staring at the ceiling.

Sometimes I try to lie still in a sleeping position with my eyes closed, but it is impossible to do that for more than a quarter of an hour, at least for me.

Ah, same problem with me. I have a little phobia with pills though. (won't take aspirin)

What I do is imagine 3 different geometric shapes and just think about them rotating around each other. Same idea as counting sheep. But alas, I'm still up now, so go figure.
