I'm soooo pissed off about Mario Kart Wii

Watch the video and you'll see why...
http://www.jeux-france.com/news20875_e3-2007-mario-kart-wii-en-video.html

At 54 seconds in the video we learn something terrible. That "a first-timer can immediatley stay bumper to bumper with a Mario Kart veteran".

That's TERRIBLE, that means there's virtually no skill. And it will not be like MKDS, it will be lamme, with over powered items. I've always like Diddy Kong Racing so much more than Mario Kart, because items shouldn't be broken, and the item you get shouldn't be based off how well you are doing, it should be random. Period. They make a huge deal about WORLD ONLINE play. But I really don't care if I'm going to lose matches to 9 year olds. Seriously, when he said those words, I was in such shock, so much disapointment. If I wanted to play a hax filled luck fest I'd play Mario Kart. And I don't. I'm not saying games like that can't be fun, just like very ocassionally I like to play with a few items in Smash, but don't make it automatically easy, maybe an on anf off handicap. If I want a fun light game, I'll play my DS (which I'll probally get the Mario Party Rom for) but that's not how I play on consoles. When I'm shelling out 55 bucks for a game, I want something that I can get good at. Does anyone agree with me.

Of course with hardly any gameplay footage and some random dudes words alone, I also feel its appropriate to completely judge this game and already label it a skilless noobfest.

Seriously he explained in no way how it would be easier for begginers to get into it. If anything he just used that as an excuse the reveal that ridiculously small wheel. Just chill out, your getting all stressed out over nothing.

The Hypnotist, I don't know why you decided to omit the other half of his sentence from your quote.

"...that's because of a variety of control choices including a franchise first: a custom Wii wheel that makes it debut for Mario Kart Wii."

Perhaps he was referring to the fact that it'll be easier for first time players to play against vets because they have a choice as to how to control the game, through either the wheel accessory or from the standard D-pad controls.

And like Brightside said, you're jumping to conclusions waaaaay too fast. One sentence plus a couple of seconds of gameplay means very little in the long run since the game won't be out for at least half a year.

Or maybe it means the controls are intuitive and you don't have to spend time learning them in order to let your racing skill and decision making decide the outcome of battles?

Or it might be an unbalanced piece of ****. Who knows.

We know next to nothing about the game right now, so you're an idiot.

Mario Kart games do take skill. Ironically, the people who say they don't are the people who never win. If they took no skill, then that would mean that you could literally take any two people in the entire world and have them play eachother 10 times, and each person would win about 5 of those games. Can you honestly say that? I know people that I could race 100 times and win every game. If no skill were involved, that would be impossible.

Reggie sucks at wording things. He means that veterans won't have an advantage just because they are used to a control scheme because now there are various ways people can play.

Dude, he said, that the game will be just as easy for a hardcore gamer than a newb. Don't make wavedashing anologies. And as far as Mario Kart goes, if you don't snake, there are too many random occurances to be a good consistient winner.

i think it looks pretty good, thank god they abandoned the two racers per car (uggh). MK64 was by far the best in the series, still remains one of my favorite drinking/party games to date

I doubt that they will look for a way to remove snaking. I mean, the developers could make you tires burn out if you slide too much, but that would only alienate the pros, leaving the game to be...."a bunch of noobs online", if you will. I'm pretty sure that Reggie was referring to his little Wii Wheel

If they took snaking out completely(not saying they will or should) so that no one could do it, the game would still be competive. You can't snake in DKR, and you said you liked that game.

The whole marketing plan for the Wii is to try to appeal to people who think video games are too complicated to control. Reggie was only trying to say that you won't need to have a lot of experience at playing Mario Kart or video games in general to play Mario Kart Wii.

You know power sliding? Where you slide around the corner and boost? It's doing that, but the entire time, not just during corners.

Actually, it isn't. You move to the right and power slide to the left, then you powerslide to the right, then the left, just hold R and hold right, then quickly tap left and right, then do the opposite.

The turning and controlling features look phenomenal. Did anyone see the clip where the kart turned all the way around in midair? No mariokart game has every been able to to that. The tracks look very promising. So do the graphics. I'm definately getting this. The online play should be a blast.

If Nintendo doesn't bring back the "double kart" scheme Mario Kart Wii will suck, honestly. Double Dash absolutely gave Mario Kart more depth, strategy and multiplayer fun. After fighting with my friend on who kept us from winning All-Cup Tour in DD, Mario Kart DS felt archaic; frankly, it was a step in the wrong direction.

Dunno, I'm just surprised no one mentioned double karts.

Unfortunately, I don't think they're gonna bring back the double kart. In the previews at E3, it only showed one character per kart. I liked the double kart also because you could hold two items at once, and strategically combine different characters for their different specials.

But Mario Kart Wii looks awesome nonetheless. Ever since I bought the Wii, I was like "oh man Mario Kart will be awesome on the Wii."

Since that was only E3 footage, MK Wii's gameplay can still change. My gut feeling is Nintendo has not revealed the big "revolution" for MK Wii yet, so it may be better than double karts, but I sincerely doubt that. Even if Nintendo wishes to "candy-coat" this game with simplistic "nostalgia", I would be fine with that. $50 matters a lot to me, and not enough for a game that will be left in the dust against Brawl.

Yeah I definitely get what you mean Skywalker. I would wait outside on its release date for Brawl, but I would never do that Mario Kart Wii.

But if they don't have double karts, oh well, they probably have some awesome features that might make up for it, especially being online.

MK Wii is comin out in like 3 or 4 months after brawl, so i'm sure dat they won't b stupid with it and leave it dusted from brawl's sales. Every mario kart game was a success overall, so i'm pretty sure that this one's success won't be any diff. But do u know what would b awesome, if in mario kart wii u could customise karts or even make ur own. its unlikely but still cool. And dude, sry bout this but what do "nostaligia" mean?:p

American Heritage Dictionary: A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.

I meant that I'll only have about 50 dollars to spend, and Brawl will definitely come first. MKW will have to wait for a while.

I think that's something new they're adding to the game to knock opponents out of the air.
How will you snake anyway with a Wii Wheel?
You would probably have to sharply turn the wheel to the left, then right, then left again. It sounds hard, I know, but I've seen white people do simpilar actions with their hands while dancing.

Yeah, it is. It's called single karts.

Am I the only one who realises that DD was the second crappiest Mario Kart game ever made(the only one worse was the GBA one)? The less this game is like DD the better.

The Smash Bros. games are more popular with their hardcore fan base then the Mario Kart games are with theirs, but the Mario Kart games are more liked with casual gamers. Pretty much everyone alive knows what Mario Kart is, not everyone knows about SSB. If I talk about Mario Kart to someone who doesn't play video games they know right away what it is, if I talk about Smash Bros. I almost always have to explain what it is. I can get my dad to sit down and play Mario Kart and he never plays video games. I could never get him to play Smash Bros.

Mario Kart SNES was the best karting game in history. It has no snaking, almost no shortcuts, pretty much no special advanced tricks, but surviving the psychedelic Rainbow Road was a win in itself.

The Wii will be a good console once Metroid 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, and Mario Galaxy launch. For the moment, the crowd is stuck with very few good games, and almost no online connectivity. So I hope MK will be a blast, as much as the DS version is.

I hope you will be able to hold on to a shell like in Mario Kart 64. I always loved how the computers would come behind you and get hit by it:chuckle:. Also, i wonder if the Multiple Bananas will return from 64 (unless that was there before, i don't know these things).
