So I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a competitive gamer.

I've been thinking lately about why I play Smash. Not Brawl, but Smash. And then why I play video games in general. I realize I don't play to win money. I don't play to WIN, really. I play for the excitement of it. The thrill. Mid-match when its close and both my opponent and I are struggling for the lead. Don't get me wrong, I like winning. And when I go to tourneys, I do my best to get first. I actually play to WIN the matches, but I don't play the matches for the SAKE of winning (if that makes sense).

I like outsmarting the other player, not taking advantage of things to beat them. I like being better then them.
And like chain grabs and stuff, its whatever. I might do them if I'm behind I guess. But I don't go out there as DDD and shield everything. It's not exciting. It's not fun. It's not why I play.

The main part of my game is mind games. For me, its 50% mindgames, 30% tech skill, and 20% game knowledge. This way its fun for me to play.

Now I don't really "suck" at this game. I'm better then a lot of people I guess. I do try to get better. CONSTANTLY. I practice a lot and try to find good players to play against. I know how to deal with chain grabs and stuff, but I don't like playing against players who use them. Because they're play style usually gets boring. Usually, not to say it always does. This is why I like playing good PLAYERS, and not players who are good WITH THEIR CHARACTER. Now I'm not complaining about chain grabs. Or anything in the game. I know how to deal with them and it doesn't really bother me. It's just that like, its boring. It's a dumb way to define a match up. It's a dumb way to play the game.

It's just like, why can't we have more Smashfests? @_@
That would be fun.

Competitive is actually just a more extreme version of hardcore, casual being on the opposite spectrum and...I don't really know what the extreme of that is. Probably Cammie Dunaway.
(If anyone chastises me for my use of the terms 'casual' and 'hardcore', I'll probably kill you, you know what I mean regardless of if you like the term.)

So, I'd say you're just hardcore, not competitive. That's the same for me.

I agree with the OP.
It is boring fighting some Falco
who chaingrab when they are already in the lead...
That is just dumb, it is like you are afraid of a challenge,
to have fun. It is a lot more fun to think of new ways to
kill when you are in a good match with someone the same skill as you and
it goes on forever and you have to think:)

I think the only game I could ever play competitively is Donkey Kong Country 2. It's pretty much just speedrunning levels. Which is fun.

I went to C4 last month to have fun. I knew very well that I'd do terrible. But I still had fun. Ally three-stocked me twice in pools, but it was fun to play despite him using Snake. I also got some friends out of it. *coughWestcough*
I like to play with items because it's fun. Bombfests at 2.0 are fun. Getting a bob-omb to the face and flying offscreen is fun.

If I'm not having fun while playing, then I just won't. That's why I never play seriously. I don't like having to remember a million different things about my character and having to analyze several things during a match. It's not fun to have to do all that so often and so quickly during a match. I just do something and hope it works.
If I knock someone offstage, I usually won't go after them. Partially because I would likely screw up and die, and partially because I can stay on stage, not die, and amuse myself there. I have a bad habit of rolling left and right a lot while waiting for someone to get back onstage. May not be the smartest thing to do, but I don't play to win. I play to have fun. If I get bored while playing someone, then I'll stop playing. Easy as that.

And I agree on more smashfests. There're too many tourneys and not enough smashfests.

What is a smashfest?

I almost always go after the person after they fly off.
If I kill myself I laugh at myself :3

Yeah, seriously... but I guess some people are mostly motivated by earning money, so that doesn't help the chances of an uprising of smashfests.

I think I fall into the same category as you, but I don't think casual is the right word.

I think your right. Why just sit there and try to be so rigid? Go crazy and create a style that no one expects. That's what I try to do. Make the game fun.

Sasuke you've inspired me, we should all host smashfests instead of tournaments, I mean just us, not and tournament directors they don't have to, they can still stick to their tourneys. but we should have more smashfests, pros coming in and showing off instead of trying to win. just impress everyone with whatever they can think of

chin grabs
Chin grabs are awful.

I think both sides have their advantages, you know? Sometimes it can be fun to play to win, (maybe because the power associated with it and the fact you don't just want to win, you know you HAVE to win) but other times it's fun to be cool about it and have a jolly good time.

I find myself being more disconnected to smash every day, at least in terms of playing it really competitively. I think I'm being more attached to this community, haha.

Your description of yourself almost be used to describe me, yet I consider myself a competitive gamer.

Maybe you need to adjust some things :D

I personally prefer to competitive drive to try and push me to keep getting better.

However when it comes to lulz/friendlies/all that jazz, I can branch out on my more silly side and I don't have to be afraid of using other characters, for semi-serious lulz or just good ol' fashion lulz.

...In fact, I think friendlies are the only time where If I was angry about something before I can just try and use MK even though compared to some other characters I use he sucks. >.> At least he's not THAT shunned then.

Sasukebowser: Making casual cool.

Reading the OP I don't know if I'd classify you as casual, but my opinion does mean a god-**** thing on this subject.

Keep doin what ya love, and hey if things work out, you just might win a few and earn a couple of bucks too~

Yeah, the word "casual" is meh.
But I mean like... you know what I mean. xD
Idk what else to call it I guess.

I'm not really good with finding words for things, just decent at describing stuff.

I'd call it "Casually Sanguine"

Sanguine [Had to look this up on dictionary.com. It's my $4.00 word for the day] meaning optimistic or cheerful.

On a somewhat random tangent: Did you know that all you had to do to be a paladin was be "a champion of a cause"? That means I can be a paladin of being a paladin [try to wrap your head around that one].

Wow... I really should go to sleep.
