Can you be a good Fox player if you DON'T Waveshine and Multishine? I know Fox's advanced techniques and all but when I have to Waveshine and Multishine it takes forever to learn. I might be able to go to Saffron City in NJ on the 26th but since i want to atleast make it to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, I want to know how to practice these techs and some methods. Btw, I can't play during the week, especially since I'm in freshman year in high school and I don't wanna fall back on my studies.

P.S. Either this, or Marth, but I prefer Fox.

I'm not good, but I'll talk about the applications.

Multishine is practical for catching spotdodgers, and waveshine for Fox is his B&B. You don't need to do it across the stage, but just be able to aerial-shine-WD-moveset. Excellent for any sort of follow up.

It won't make you good per se, but it is essential you can waveshine.

The learning curve would be

Spacing - >Tech - > Mein geheimes

You don't get super good until you understand what's going on in your opponent's head, but if you have solid spacing and tech you can fare pretty decently.

If it's not practical for you to get waveshining down, you should consider a different character.

Waveshining is more or less what makes Fox as good as he is in certain match-ups. You need to put effort into characters into melee if you want to get anywhere. You can't pick up top tiers and get 1/2/3 placings without putting the work in. If you're looking for an easy way out, Fox isn't the right choice for you. He gets comboed hard by the entire cast, but has enough tricks of his own to fight back.

If you want to be tournament ready with Fox you need to learn a few crucial things:

1. Aerial->lcancel->shine perfectly

2. Waveshining. Its not 100% useful in all of his match-ups, but once you get it down the applications are only limited by your capacity for creativity. (and your opponent falling down of course.)

3. Grab comboing with uthrow.

4. Edge-guarding. Nuff said.

Waveshining is fox's favorite move, without it it would be that much harder to combo people(depending on what character they are). Shine is one of his best moves but its not the only thing you have to be really good at to get "good" with fox. One is Lcanceling, if you can't lcancel then most of fox's game is gone. One of the reasons why fox's shine is so good is because it pushes people away so they cant shield grab you. and if your quick enough you could waveshine behind them and just grab them... if they are still in shield.....

...... Waveshinning takes alot of pratice.... and multishinning, that much more.

P.S. Raynex, your going to pound 4... thats going to be sick!!!!

Only time you should even attempt waveshining behind them:

is if you've seen during the match that they have the tendency to shield for long periods of time. This will happen alot with Peach and Jiggs. They sit in shield for days and days. I'd still recommend nair shine or shine jc grab over waveshine behind though. Its waay too slow.

lol someone is very smart. but shine is one of the fastest move in the game but you will have to learn how to multishine quickly because people will be waiting for the shine after the a fair or bair.
Aww...geee...I forgot what I was gonna say.

I actually can't multishine past 3 or 4 times.

All you need is a doubleshine, especially against Samus players who make spotdodge -> D-smash their instinctive response. Of course there are funnier ways to punish that, but doubleshines look too cool.
