Never in my life have I been so humiliated and destroyed on a game as I am on 1 on 1 for glory.

With a win rate of just over 20% I feel like baking the disc into a pie eating it ****ting it out and injecting the **** into my veins.

I'll get maximum one player a night I can consistently beat. I'm lucky if I even get one KO against most people.

Can someone point me in the direction of some good basic tutorial videos? Playing a game where I rarely ever win is getting boring real fast.

I'm trying to main zero suit samus, although Ike is my favourite he's just too slow. I find my self being rolled past and grabbed a lot, I start an attack and before I know it I'm getting smacked from behind, it's really frustrating.

I like to think that I play a pretty good Ike, my offer is still open.
Gotta admit, I haven't done too much with ZSS yet, so I can't help as much on that end.

You too, huh?

Anyways, I would learn the basics about your character through Training and Smashboards forums. Once you know the best tools and character techniques, the next step is to learn universal techniques and mindgames. Good attacks can't always be good if they're predictable.

I personally recommend a different approach:
Play as every character enough to at least recognize their special moves and notable regular attacks or unique character quirks (things like Palutena's up smash, Jigglypuff's number of jumps, Little Mac's K.O. Punch gauge, etc.).
Once you've gotten a general idea of what each character can do it'll be easier to both pick a main and learn how to counter other characters.

nce you've done that, then BBC7's post is right on the money.

Yeah I'll add you man cheers. I think that's some of the problem I've only ever played with friends off line so don't even know what the **** is happening to me with some characters. I'm probably making myself sound worse than I actually am. I'm no stranger to fighting games or smash brothers, I am however to online 1v1 no items and I'm just shocked at how good people are.

Keep in mind that online also has button lag that can really screw you up.
I find that I mess up online waaaaaaaaaaaaay more often than offline, and plenty of other players are having trouble as well. You've just gotta keep your chin up keep learning, the game is far from impossible to learn at least intermediate play.

Edit: If you're up for a few match I'll be free in about an hour, dinner's almost ready.

I just fought a guy who used Mario and toon link, and every time I threw him up in the air after a grab he was immune to damage when falling down. Is that character specific? Ah it's bedtime for me, I'm in the UK :)

I would think that it depends on their damage percentage, it sounds like their hitstun ended and they used an air dodge (L or R in the air) before you could follow up.

Its around 8 or 9 over there across the pond, eh?
Alrighty; good night, perhaps tomorrow or on the weekend then.

I know the title was supposed to be tongue in cheek but it wasn't necessary given how serious self-harm can actually be. It has been changed to something more neutral. If you would like to change it to something less offensive, please go ahead.

Sorry about the title, it wasn't meant in any derogatory way, I actually do wanna slap myself in the face when I get that frustrated unfortunately. I suppose it's better than wanting to slap someone else!

Anyway here's an update, I switched to toon link and saw my win rate go from 20 to 38 percent in 3 days. Now I'm obviously much better with toon link but I swear there's been an increase of really terrible players on 1v1. So the combination of the two has thankfully stopped me from raging.

FYI, ike was kind of nerfed in smash four. he lost his epic jab cancel from brawl, he lost his follow up with dash attack from back throw, and his range on fair was kind of nerfed. just pointing that out.

As for advice.....well like others have said, look up some guides on him. Save replays of yourself playing matches and seeing what you did wrong that got you punished, then make an effort to correct em.

Also, don't feel bad cuz of the losses. Think of it this way, you weren't getting your ass kicked in offline tournaments like so many older players did the first time in melee or 64. Imagine going to an offline tournament, thinking you're really amazing at smash bros, only to get slaughtered in your first match in front of a huge group of players.

He lost a few things, but he gained quite a few things as well.
I'd say its close to an even trade, of course he could still be better.
