Okay I have to do a research argument paper on why violent video games are bad for children. I already have aggressive behavior as a point to talk about. I was wondering if anybody could research or tell me other reasons why violent games are bad. Remember, why is it bad and what could be the possible consequences.

Please only comment if it pertains to the bad things about violent games

violent games are a lot of fun, and children shouldn't be having too much fun when they're young because it will make the rest of their life seem less fun.

Well, I have a friend that turned into a complete jerk after being addicted to Call of Duty.
He thinks that he's better than everybody else. I'm guessing that he thinks this just because he's good at the game and can beat other people online.
He doesn't want to do anything else. Two friends and I tried to get him to have a snowball fight with us at a park. It was awesome. We don't usually get much snow, either. His excuse? He wanted to play Alien vs. Predator.
He's aggressive. Enough said.

He also watches wrestling, and has been watching it for longer than he has been playing violent video games, so maybe this is the cause of watching wrestling a lot.

Well, the main point is that he's addicted to the games and he is full of himself.

I have a friend who I play video games with (he is 9) who is able to play violent video games as he pleases(violence nothing sexual) he plays call of duty and games of that nature and enjoys them....But he seems to naturaly flock to the less violent T for teen games, examples(battlefront, little big planet, sonic games)

My argument is that young kids will enjoy teen rated games rather than M rated(unless they are crazy pyromainiac kids)

Well.
I too did a paper on this (sadly, i had to take the side of 'OMG VIDEO GAEMS ARE BAD!!!11' ...stupid catholic schools)
Basically, kids who have issues with differentiating reality and imagination can become warped by video games. They think imitating games is cool. For instance, these kids actually sniped cars on a highway after playing GTA. And DOOM is blamed for Columbine (i dont blame the game...i blame the kids who decided to use the game as practice. There's a difference)

If you need any help, PM me. Maybe i can send you some examples from my paper.

My gf said that violent video games teaches bad behavior, and that it easily confuses them to believe that violence is the only way to solve our problems.

I find it ironic that parents blame everything on video games, yet they'll let you read "skeleton key" in third grade (if it was a video game, It would be rated M)

@Dark Horse Well, My Mom read Dante's Inferno in elementary school (yes I mean the accusal book which I read My self I have never played the video game and I do not intend to.)(Yes I know that is 1/3 of the complete book Divine comedy.) Any way the violences in books are different than video games because with a book you have to Visualize the images in your head it is not just simply handed to you.

Well, my book was very graphic, cursed some 30 times, and provided a very detailed description of when someby goes through an airplane engine.

Books are different from video games because you need a certain level of literacy at a young age to grasp the content, this is not as true with video games.
