Forward, I've done that before. Not quite as epic, but still made me feel like a horrible person.
I work at a mexican restaurant. The shredded beef we serve there is ambrosia. My second day on the job, I had woken up late and forgotten to eat breakfast, so I was starving. Sure enough, the most glorious shredded beef enchilada EVER came out of the oven, and as I was putting lettuce on it, a little drool sliped out and onto the cheese.

Of course I packaged it and served it. Those things take 10 minutes to bake and it looked amazing as it is. I felt bad afterwards, but come on, its not like I have Ebola.

Haha, awesome Bailey. I love hearing retail stories like that.

I have a friend who works at Nintendo World. Last year in order to try and get a Wii, people would call in and say they have cancer(I'm serious)or something as an excuse for why they couldn't get up early to stand in line for a Wii. This year, the store eventually had to put in a policy that you had to buy the Wii with credit card only because people were paying bums to stand in line and buy the system.

Here's a good story my friend told me about him being a **** to someone:

"My friend and I learned how to play that pokemon trading figure game the
other day, it's actually quite fun. So we were both looking at the
figures today discussing strategies and this woman came up to us:

Woman: "I got this for my son but we don't know how to play"
Me: "oh did you get the starter set, or just individual figures"
Woman: Starter set
Me: OK well that comes with a mat that shows you where to place all
the pieces, and instructions and a walkthrough on how to play it!
Woman: Ok...... but my son is 6....
Me: Oh that's fine/it's easy to learn, just go through the
instructions with him
Woman: But... I don't want to have to read the instructions.
Me: .... ok then I guess you won't learn how to play *turns and walks
away*"

I really don't envy people who work at game stores when the holidays roll around. The world is full of stupid soccer moms.

Oh yeah, and no to drag this post on even longer, but this guy tried to return a DS game the other day that was opened. Get this: He was super pissed and claimed it was false advertising because he thought the DS-meaning yes, the system-came with the game. He thought the DS was inside that little game case. He went on to say he was never shopping at the store again, would tell his family not to go there, bla bla bla boohoo.

LMAO @ that last guy Liv xD!

Ah, someone should've said to him: "Thank you for telling your family not to shop here, so we won't have to do it."

Bailey, was your supervisor mad at you for talking back to the customers?

I mean, you could have been a lot nicer to her, but I understand why you acted the way you did. But did that get in any trouble at your job?

If I was your supervisor, I wouldn't get you into any real trouble, but I would definitely have a short talk with you about keeping your cool, not being smart with the customers, etc.

I hate bosses like those. It's absolutely normal to reply to an ******* when you get insulted on your turf for doing your job especially an angry mother who probably won't come back anyway to that store. You're not loosing market when you insult someone, it's not like they'll discuss with their family and friends on how they've been badly received at "x" store because they acted like douchebags.

I agree that it's normal, and even justified. But Bailey could have said something like, "I'm sorry ma'am, but this one is already reserved. There's a real shortage during the holidays for this item, but here are some tips for how to get one as soon as possible: ...." While it takes more self-control and it doesn't give Bailey, who has been working for 12 hours during the busiest time of the year, a chance to vent at an angry, stupid customer, it makes everything nicer.

In general, if you can make a customer happy, no matter how stupid or angry they are, something major has been accomplished.

And you'd be surprised at how well word-of-mouth can spread. The story the woman says would not be the truth, but rather how she picked out an item, and then right before checking her out, some employee came and said he wanted it, and took it away from her, blah blah blah. She won't tell how she was acting like an idiot, or at least she'll make it seem like she was justifiably angry. The gist of the story will be that the store had plenty of that item, but instead of selling it to the customers, the employees all took them home to sell on eBay or something. And that story is definitely bad for business.
