you dont need to spike 100% of the time.

marth can pwn in thousands of other ways.
Yeah, i agree. I think though that people just like to spike to show off (like me). Even though Marth has a whole entire list of owning strategies spiking is one thats very common and gives a good feeling in you when you do it.

i think you dont NEED spike. it is hella useful. some people cant function without it. for instance, i cant function without counter. but i can do without spiking, i mainly do it in spite because most times i end up falling into the abyss anyway. good thread.

Spiking with Marth is the riskiest of his edgeguarding options. Obviously the rewards are huge, but often Fair, Nair or Bair are better options to keep pressure on the opponent offstage. Dair has huge lag both in air and on the ground, so it can be easily punished if you either miss or space badly and send them in the wrong direction. Ledgehop Dair on very low recovering opponents is an awesome tool though, as it can gimp many characters' Up+B's while avoiding any harm to Marth. Once again, though - screw it up, you may be facing a stagespike.

I know exactly how feel pyrotek. i used to be the same way.

What i do to spike someone is......
1. Turn my back to them
2. and try not to get to close
3. try and hit them wher marth finishes the slash (his back)

Hope this helps

I suck with marth, but I have been improving by practicing against level 4 computer because they don't play like a unnatural power shielding person but, don't (usually) kill themselves for no reason.

Another good way to practice is to go to training mode and play against falco and practice your chain grabbing to i think 12% correct me if im wrong until he off the edge then short hop the down air. Takes some getting used to, but falco can be tough for marth and this will help agaist a falco player and your spikes generally.

Why did you revive this? >_>

Anyway, don't waste your time spiking with Marth because it's too situational. You're probably not even going to be spiking a decent Gannondorf with Marth.

Use the Q&A thread next time, please.
