Maybe because I have been playing the 3DS version for the past couple on months, I am starting to enjoy using the Wii U Pro controller than the GameCube Controller. The button layout is similar to the 3DS, even though I haven't lost my touch with the GameCube Controller, during my time with the game smashing with friends in 1v1, Free 4 All, and 8 player smash I even enjoyed using my 3DS as a controller lol.

What do you guys think of the Pro Controller vs the GameCube Controller, am I the only one feeling this way?

I have to agree! The Pro Controller just has a comfortable fit, and this is from someone who's GC'd it since Melee's release. I like the change up.

Guess I'll just sit here in my little corner and enjoy my black Classic Controller Pro by myself.
Naw, that's how I play too. I like that controller a lot. Heck, I played Brawl for the longest time with the original Classic Controller.

Adaptator for Gamecube Controller are out of stock in my area so I bought a Classic Pro Controller with Gamecube Controller shape. It's great, I could play on Brawl on Wii U with that. And it's PINK (Peach one) !

With the new mechanics of the C-Stick (no easy retreating aerials) maybe it's not an obligation to play with GameCube Controller...

i actually played Melee and Brawl a few days ago with the good ol' cube and to my surprise, I found myself enjoying the 3DS MORE(!) than the ol' reliable simply because i played with it for such a long time. I also really enjoy the way the shoulder buttons work and grabbing with L is now second nature to me.

I was stunned, I tell you.

I've been switching between the WiiU Pro and the GC to see which one I like more and I still can't decide >_<

Pro controller is fantastic, I'm in love with how close the c stick is to the X (jump) button.

I have been using it for the past day and a half and have grown to like it quite a bit. I think the Gamecube controller is still king for Smash but the Pro controller offers a great experience without the hassle of tracking down one of the adapters and new GC controllers. Way more effective and should help future proof you for Smash for years to come.

That is only natural. The Wii U Pro Controller is a superior controller, after all :p

The important is how you feel with your controller. And how you could custom settings sometimes... the combination of somes buttons could leads to great shortcuts and different gameplay like Lucas in Brawl.

I have to agree the WiiU pro controller is great. And it works on mostly everything else on the WiiU as well.

I had my Wii U since launch, the gamepad works great but I don't want to ruin my GamePad buttons playing smash so I don't use it or anyone else touch it during smash sessions.

Naw, that's how I play too. I like that controller a lot. Heck, I played Brawl for the longest time with the original Classic Controller.
I don't like the position and the feel of the analog sticks on the Classic Pro controller, but I am glad that Smashers are looking into alternatives for playing.

Honestly, I have been playing the 3DS version for so long I forgot all about the C-Stick lol. The Wii U pro position for the C stick is actually pretty cool.

I still haven't used my Pro Controller for playing my other Wii U games because I love how the GamePad feels lol.

Just picked up my adapter and new GC controller and the GC is superior overall. The c stick placement is just in a more convenient spot and the z button just feels better and is easier to execute grabs with.

C-Stick was used for great mind game. It's really hard to do some tricks without GC Controller. It was not just a tradition.
Using :GCU::GCCD: in the same time make a short hop + Dair immediately, it's was great for beginners. And for some characters like Ganondorf in conjonction with A for C-Stick it boost some strategy (:GCU::GCCD: or :GCU::GCCR: in A for C-stick). It is possible with a Pro Controller ?

I wasn't able to actually get a gamecube adapter at release (sigh)... so I've been rocking the Wii U pro. You def have to make some changes to what buttons do what, but it's not bad. I feel though, if you come from a melee background and use c stick for majority of aerials/attacks, the gamecube controller is still best. I can't wait to get my hands on that damn adapter lol

The Pro has been REALLY easy for me to use. Probably because of all my time using the 3DS controller. I still plan on eventually getting the Gamecube adapter, but I am no longer in a rush to do so.

I would have to look into, everything you mentioned I never bothered using ever since I played smash........

It was my life's mission to track down the adapter and I snagged one at best buy yesterday morning lol. I like the GC controller but the pro is really good and I am surprised at how well it handles.

I don't have a pro controller but

But to remind you guys the pro controller is wireless and has a simular body design to the gamecube controller and the buttons are probably easier to use

Well, I'd say every controller has a similar body design these days, save the Wiimote and PlayStation's whatevermachine, for obvious reasons. There are only so many ways a controller can be unique AND ergonomic. But I will say, to me, newly designed controllers have stickier buttons than the old GC controllers. While it's easy to get over, I think the old buttons are to the advantage of the GC controller. Buttons have become sort of 'clickier' lately, and I'm not a huge fan. It might increase responsiveness, or something else I'm not technically privy to, but old buttons feel better to me.

The C-stick placement is a huge advantage and i don't have to switch custom controls every time with the gcn controller

When I preordered my copy of Sm4sh they weren't offering the bundles anymore, so I had to psych myself up for a week about using the Pro Controller.

Turns out I like the Pro Controller better! Being that I spent a good bit of time on the 3DS version I've actually started to prefer the clicky shoulder buttons over the GC triggers too.

Hi friends! We can be gamepads pals forever!. Yeah I dunno why I like the pad more then the pro controller. Something about how high the right joystick is on the controller bugs me.

While I'm sure tourney players will likely stick to GC because it has an ever so slightly less delay of input (completely negligible to the average player) Wii U Pro is absolutely fantastic, good comfy feel, the button and stick layout is perfect for Smash.

Last night I starting trying out a claw grip with my thumb on the face buttons, my index finger on the right stick, and my middle finger covering the right triggers. I set R and ZR to grab, ZL to shield, and L to attack (which I was going to use for DACUS but is now a placeholder until I find a better use). I think it works pretty well and it's not too hard to get used to. Hitting left, down, and right on the right stick is no problem, the only hard part is hitting up, but up A probably works just as well in most circumstances.

I'll be that guy and say the Wii U Pro controller is the superior controller. Ask anyone who tried all consoles and they'll tell you the Wii U Pro is the best of them all due to comfort. Nintendo knows how to make good controllers.

That being said, you won't be able to convince serious Smash players to switch over for many reasons. The main one being that it's wireless so it cannot be used competitively. Even if it were wired, muscle memory plays a huge role too. If you've been using the same controller for so many years, it will be difficult to make the switch because it will require a certain adaptation time.

I really don't think it takes that much time to switch to a new style. If you're a long-time player of Smash, all you need to know is where your buttons are mapped. A couple hours of practice for a few days had me minimizing mistakes ( the ones not being caused by the evil Circle Pad... ) on my 3DS. Worked my way up to 3-stocking level 9s, and I was ready to start playing for real. The Pro Controller layout isn't much different from that. Also, when I went back to playing on my GC controller, I found I was performing better than before thanks to being weaned off my C-Stick and stick-jumping handicaps. I'd say giving them both a try is a good idea, simply because shaking things up might open up your game the way it did mine.

Oh I agree it doesn't take much to get used to a new style but laziness goes a long way. Why would I spend half a day to relearn something when I can stay in my comfort zone and play the exact same way as I used to? I feel it's the same reason why people into fighting games keep playing the older games. New games mean new balancing, new mechanics, etc. Why bother learning the new game when you can stick to the old game that you're already good at and use that as an excuse to say the new game is bad even though you spent a maximum of a few hours in the game so you actually know nothing about it. It's the same reasoning why most older people don't know anything about technology. Why would they learn all these computer things and this "internets" when they never needed it in the past before? Unfortunately now they're having a hard time adapting to it because it's being shoved into every day life as something essential and they know nothing about it.

Overall it's nice to be able to have access to things from the past but eventually everyone will need to adapt or become irrelevant.

Right. That's why I feel Sm4sh 3DS is a pretty integral entry to the series, despite the fact I feel it's going to be practically outmoded now that the Wii U version is out.

If you wanted to be a true fan of Smash Bros., and not just some backwater Melee tryhard who was still butthurt about Brawl, you had to try this game on principle. When you did try it, you had to git gud so you were giving the game a fair chance. By that time you'd have adjusted to a new style, given that the 3DS version really limits your options.

It's all kind of a beautiful coincidence, really. Or... Or maybe Sakurai planned it this way? GASP!

Buuut, then he ruined it by giving us all our GC controllers back. Oh well.

Still, that "nearly imperceptible lag" from wireless controllers can really add up when you're being outpaced by a wired controller, so I'll definitely stick with GC controllers for tournament play.

Year 2035: Smash Bros 7 is released for Nintendo Future console.
Year 2035: Nintendo is forced to release a gamecube controller adapter for Nintendo Future console because the many Smash Bros fans are still stuck in 2002.

Do you really want this to happen? It does not take long to learn the WiiU pro controller and it works with most WiiU content where the old GC controller does not. Living in the past because it was good back in the day is something elderly people do because they are scared of or to lazy to change. I think we are above this and can embrace the good change.

The GC controller is not well designed actually. It has very odd button placement. The main advantage is that it has one of the best analog sticks ever on a controller to this day and it has the c-stick. It worked well for Smash. Terrible for other fighters.

The classic controllers are overall superior products. Try the Wii Classic Pro.
IMO its the best one for Smash 4 due to good button placement and the second analog is in a similar position to the c-stick on a GC controller.

The problem with these controllers is they are tethered to the Wiimote to use them. If not for that, I'd use them all the time.
