So from Monday to Friday of this week, I was at Hershey Park, Pennsylvania with my family. Wheee! For those of you who don’t know, Hershey Park is an amusement park built near the Hershey’s chocolate plant. It was originally built for the workers in the plant, but it was eventually opened to the public too! So with that said, let’s chronicle this Odyssey into the world of chocolate.

Day 1

I live on Long Island, so it’s a 4 hour trip from my home to Hershey Park. Combine that with the most obnoxious road-work delays I have seen in a long time, and I was close to reciting “are we there yet?” Eventually we arrived that the White-Rose motel, got our room, blah blah you don’t care about this stuff.

After getting cozy, we all went to Chocolate World, which is basically like an “exhibit” in the factory itself. There was a tour describing the ridiculously complex work that goes into creating a freaking chocolate bar (seriously, you have to see it to believe it), and at the end, is a HUGE room with just about every Hershey product ever for you to buy and eventually rot your teeth with. I naturally got my all-time favorite snack ever, Whoppers! Now they even come in Peanut Butter and Strawberry flavors for even more deliciousness! I didn’t try them though, I just got the regular kind.

When we were done with that, it was late at night, so we went back to the motel and saw Star Wars Episode 4 on TV.

Day 2

I awoke the next morning to see my brother watching some silly game show called “Cash Cab”. Basically, there’s a taxi in Manhattan that if you’re lucky enough to get in, you get to answer trivia questions for money, but if you get three wrong, you’re kicked out of the cab on the spot. At least the trip in that cab is free. After watching that for a while and getting ready, we went to the actual Hershey Park. We went on some rides, but today was mostly focused on its zoo of sorts, conveniently named “Zooamerica”.

First came the reptiles, my favorite, Alligators! I <3 Alligators. The path then takes a sharp contrast as we enter what I assumed was a cavern/night type of exhibit as all of the lights were off. Among various other critters, there was a rose-haired tarantula in one small tank (I know its species since I have one as a pet), a bat that I couldn’t see very well (I also <3 bats, so this made me a sad Ridley), and some desert foxes. One of them curled up right alongside the tank. It was cute, but not as cute as a certain fox on SWF.

Up next was a daytime desert exhibit. The most notable thing here was a real, live, roadrunner. It doesn’t look very similar to the one that’s dealing with Wil E. Coyote. It also doesn’t stick out its tongue or beep. Nor does it go as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog…

After that, we passed by some sleeping bobcats, a sleeping bear, and some presumably sleeping prairie dogs. Then there was an Elk that all the “charming” little kids nearby kept calling a moose. Eventually I found myself at a large enclosure for a pack of grey wolves. Somehow the entire pack had essentially vanished except for one which was sleeping, and even then I had to use one of those binocular station things to see him, though it was a perfect view of him with it, yay.

Getting to the end of a path and we come across a little enclosure that supposedly contains a weasel of sorts. I say supposedly since I couldn’t find it at all. Considering how I’m a huge fan of Nack the Weasel from the Sonic franchise, this made me internally RAGE!

After this little expedition, we returned to our motel, swam in the motel’s pool, and watched Star Wars Episode 5 on TV.

Day 3

Once again when I wake up I see Cash Cab on the TV. Hooray!

Today my family and I decided to go to the nearby caverns that I believe are called the “Indian Echo Caverns”. It was epic, and not just because it’s the closest thing I’ll get to actually visiting Brinstar. The underground “lake” was totally a puddle.

After that, we went to Gettysburg. After having Lincoln’s speech shoved down my throat throughout my school years it was nice to see actually see the darn place. It was interesting, but history’s not really my thing so I don’t really have much to say.

Yeah, those two things took up the entirety of the day, so back to the motel with us. Episode 6 of Star Wars on the TV. Good, I’d hate to have to watch the end of the trilogy when I got home xD

Day 4

Guess what? Cash Cab!

Back to the actual Hershey Park today. This time we got to go on a lot more rides including Storm Runner (It’s like King Da Ka at Six Flags but it doesn’t break down all the time) and a coaster that was introduced last year called “Fahrenheit”. Its gimmick is that the first drop lifts you up at a 90 degrees angle and going down it actually inclines a little bit past the 90 degrees mark. Otherwise, it’s a fun little coaster that has pitifully small cars. At the end of the day I ate a big funnel cake. MMMMM.

Day 5

Do I even have to say what was on the TV?

So, yeah, nothing really special on this day, just packing up and leaving. There were even more traffic jams, and the Burger King we stopped at along the way seemed to work too quickly for lack of a better term. Were they not cooking the food all the way? I get home to see Make Your Move 6 swamped under KingK.Rool’s army of Eeveelutions.

So there you have it. A summary of my time at Hershey Park and the surrounding areas. It was a fun trip, but I’m glad to be back home with my friends. =)

Well, that sounds lovely. Chocolate, good. Nocturnal animals, almost as good.

Episode 6 of Star Wars on the TV. Good, I’d hate to have to watch the end of the trilogy when I got home xD
I chuckled.

Funnel cakes are delicious and Cash Cab sounds ridiculous. The poor passenger just wants to get somewhere, and they waste his time, then kick him out? Awful!

My bad. ;)
