How to practice auto cancels?

I've gotten 20XX and the L cancel practice is helping a ton, but I want to work on auto cancels. Problem is I don't really know when I autocancel correctly, I feel like L canceling is faster even though I know its not true. Any tips?

Off the top of my head try buffering a roll for when you hit the ground to see if you roll. If there's a pause then you missed the l cancel

If you auto cancel in 20xx with the flash codes on, your character won't change color. If you didn't auto cancel or l cancel, you will flash red.

I guess there is no distinction between that. I know a short hop nair auto cacels, but a short hop bair finishes. The other ones have to be l canceled.
