This update may not seem worth your time to look at, as almost everyone knows how to attack in Melee, but in Brawl there is more than just the Cube controller. Here’s a brief rundown of Thursdays update, which is about A attacks and how to use them with all 4 control types.

Standard Attack (Aka Neutral Attack)

Strong attack (Aka Forward-Tilt)

Smash Attack (Aka F-Smash)

Sakurai reminds us that these attacks work in all 4 directions (Up-Smash, ect) and that the Smash attacks are once again chargable. One minor tidbit lends a bit to what Zamus’ attacks might be, with her gun seemingly used for one of her Smash attacks, as shown below.

So is Link about to stab his opponent for the smash? That sounds cool, actually.

Looks like the Wii Remote turned on its side will be difficult to smash with for me.

Me too, but the section is about smashes, and he sports the same purple shine on his sword that Samus has on her whip.

You’re right, the first thing I thought when seeing the pose was Marth or Roy’s counter.

If a smash attack with the wiimote is “-> 1+2″, then I wonder what you perform the B moves. Link eyes, the EYES, so piercing.

I bet that -> + 1 are the B moves, and that you have to push up to jump (there’s not enough buttons).

Yeah I expected that the B moves would use the 1 button, however, for the smash attacks they use 1+2, what about the smash B attacks (Link’s Boomerang for instance. Why use 1+2 for the A smash attacks when they could just have used -> + 2. I don’t see the logic, if you can still follow what i’m talking about.

Ah well, we’ll find out later. Can’t wait to play with Link, my favourite and first fighter. (and then Pit), compare arrows.

Ahh… I was used to getting so much “unknown” information that I forgot that he would post something like this sometime. I don’t really care about game modes are anything like that right now- I just want to hear about more characters! I’ll figure out how the game plays when I buy it (which I probably will). It shouldn’t be that hard if he’s keeping it like the normal smash.

Last night I had a dream that he realeased 12 new posts on his smash blog today…

This i probably a dream that will never happen, but I just thought of it. Link’s final boss is most likely Ganondorf (if he’s in). It would have been great is Ganondorf’s final boss was Kishin Link (I don’t like the word Oni, makes him sound evil, WHICH HE IS NOT)

What a bold statement. I’m going to wait and see.

Also, what’s important to note is that for the Wiimote you have to hit two buttons to smash. This will make interchanging the buttons more complicated and more interesting.

I’m predicting that we’ll be able to set the C stick for attacks for the single player mode this time.

It looks like they may be changing Link’s smash attack… that could end up good or bad.

Just thought I would point out in response to Karkelo’s question “what about the smash B attacks if the smash A attacks are buttons 1 + 2 on the wiimote?” that there aren’t really any attacks (except for I guess like Samus’s missiles) that are “Smash B” attacks per se, they’re all just -> + B, it doesn’t matter whether or not you “smash” when you do them as long as you tilt. So just 1 button for B should be fine.

Kirbykid- No, it isn’t. Think about it.

The buttons are probably placed the best compared to all the others. The only one which can probably arugued to be better may be the classic controller.

Not only that, but everyone is used to the GCN controller by now. People can now easily know what buttons to change for their configurations to do things easier like DSHL or something, so M2K isn’t the only person who can do it from X to B lolz.

Gamecube controller is def gonna be the best. If anyone played the dragon ball z game, i have a feeling thats how the controls are going to be for this game. And those controls SUCKED!

“Karleko Says:

I know Dan already kind of replied, but… not sure if he really addressed this part, and I just wanted to say:

They could have just used —> + 2 to smash? Then how would you tilt? As you know, the D-pad isn’t pressure sensitive, it’s either on or off, pressed or not.

You get what I’m trying to say? I think you probably do, so I won’t keep explaining.
