How to Do Brawl+ on an Unmodded Wii: Theory, not tested

Ok, so me and Chibo had an idea:

Since Bannerbombing Gecko OS doesn't seem to work, it seems inpossible to have Brawl+ on a Wii that has no permanent mods on it.

Well, I think we came up with a slightly more cumbersome but even better solution.

Simply, you just need a 1 gigabyte SD card with a nand dump, Waninkoko's Wad Manager 1.5, Bannerbomb, Gecko OS, and the Brawl+ files and it should work fine.

I haven't actually tested Bannerbombing the Wad Manager, but the program allows for nand emulation, which essentially means that we could emulate a Wii that had the Homebrew channel installed and nothing else, no IOS changes, nothing. This way we know there are no issues with the Wii that is loading as long as they distribute SD cards that have a sticker on the lock switch.

Now, since Waninkoko apparently was looking for nand dumps to test this, it should work fine for a nand of a different Wii, unlike a Bootmii nand restore (from what I've heard).

Because of this, we will have no IOS issues, and I think it could work out well, as well as everything that will be played on in 1 SD card. Also, Brawl is not an IOS reloading game, which some new ones are, which essentially causes SD cards and USB drives to shut off temporarily, which kills backup loading or emulation. Brawl is not one of these so we are safe from that issue.

Known Issues:

For WAD installs, the wad manager requires a modified IOS36 patch installed to IOS249, so it might be to do a backup install that they have to already have Patchmii. As I am on vacation, I can't test this but it would sort of defeat the purpose, but not that badly. Since that works on LU64 because it doesn't replace an IOS, it should work fine and we could even install it before hand if possible.

According to Dantarion, Bannerbomb takes away access to the DVD drive when it loads .dol's, so it might be that we can't have it work. However, there is also the thing that it might be different because it has an entire nand emulation, chances are that will need to be fixed.

Do you know WHY GeckoOS doesn't work with Bannerbomb?
Also, you realize NAND emulation is a feature in Wanin's cIOS, right?

i have no idea why gecko wont work with it
u also cant use loadmii to load gecko and do it

i figured nand emulation had to do with the cios, i havnt tested it yet. i cant even use the newer cios' cause for some reason whenever i update to 13b or 14 it wont recognize my hard drive anymore.

I fail to understand why someone would want to go through this much trouble every time they want to play Brawl+ instead of just installing the Homebrew Channel.

But, on-topic... well, it could work, but I'm not sure. I don't really know enough about nand dumps to know whether you could or not.

because some ppl for some odd reason dont want ANYTHING installed on their system lol

idk why personally, but im sure they have their reasons, and i respect it

but this workaround rly wouldnt take long. a min maybe? and it would only have to be done for unmodded wiis

Well, the HackMii installer can uninstall both the Homebrew Channel and DVDX leaving no traces (and it can uninstall BootMii, but I think that leaves small traces) so I'm still not sure what the problem is...

Eh, whatever. I may not understand them personally, but I respect others' opinions. *shrugs*

Under the ground.
^Some guys out there basically think that installing things could potentially wreck their Wii and/or get heat from Nintendo. WE know it won't happen, but the masses are ignorant lot.

The way bannerbomb loads .dol's, NO homebrew has access to the dvd drive.
I'm sure theres a way to fix this, but I have no clue what it is.
Perhaps ill try modding geckoos 1.07 to reset the dvd drive state before accessing it :p

Still, we can't tell them "nothing will happen" because we never know. There's little to no risk, but the risk is still there. We can't ignore that.

Someone please get this to work, Brawl+ on unmodded wii's would spread it so much.

Mod gecko 1.9.2, it's open source now.

Yep, it was just released yesterday. Its likely an IOS issue I'm thinking. We could try restting the IOS and see if that works, however, it would likely shut off the SD card so that might not work.
