Smash Rookie
Hey SmashBoards,
I have been going to smash tournaments on and off since Smash 4's release but mostly just for fun. I'm really looking to improve my play and take my tournaments more seriously, I've been keeping mental notes of what I've been losing to and my biggest weakness is fighting players who are very patient or reactive. I'm talking about instances in the neutral game where neither player is at a real advantage... players who sit and wait for me to act first I have the hardest time fighting.
I imagine match-up knowledge can go a long way in the neutral but what I'm looking for are some general guidelines for forcing my opponent to react and choose an option before me. Most of the characters I play don't have a ton of safe options on shield so I'm forced to get a read most of the time to net kills or rack up damage.
For example, I played a DK player last night in tournament... His game plan was to stand still and wait for me to come in and grab me. He never acted first or took any risks, I was thinking to myself during the game that I could also just stand away and wait for him but I wouldn't really be accomplishing anything by doing so (or maybe I would, IDK).
Anyways, do you guys ever face opponents like this or play this style yourselves and could provide some guidance or some general rules you follow?
Thanks,
Smob
