How to begin Marth

Hi smashers!

I decided to choose Marth as my new main in Brawl but can't really play him well. I use short hops with F-Air a lot, B-Up out of shield but still get owned by ToonLink, Meta Knight and Ice Climbers. Do you have an advice for me? How is Marth generally played? Thanks!
