Sword charecters are great.
They have more unique moves abilites and so on.
:marth: Marth (My favorite) With his swift quick powerful attacks. His deadly swords dance and his killer combo's
:link2: You have link who relies on Bombs, arrows, and his boomerang. Have a strong recovery and Great arial manoeuvres.
:metaknight: Meta Knight with his deadly fast attacks, great recovery, and painful combo's

Those are just some examples of good swordsman.
With out swordsmen I feel like smash would be different.
Your thoughts? :kirby:

The notion you're looking at I suppose is "disjoints".

Swords are a very easy/"real" I suppose way of representing that abstract concept. Hitboxes that exist without hurtboxes.

Not sure what you're looking for out of this thread though.

For Link, you didn't even mention his sword. That has no relation to him being a sword-wielder.

With both MK and Marth you talked about fast attacks and devastating combos, so I don't see why you call it varied

Yeah, swords are great, as long as we don't get too many

:4robinm::4robinf: Have the breakable Levin sword
:4myfriends:Has the extremely deadly, but extremely slow smashes
:4shulk: Can buff himself (technically done by the Monado)

also technically :4kirby::4megaman::4mii::4greninja: are also sword-wielders (kinda)

I think what op is saying is that swordsman make unique characters. Granted, most characters in Smash are unique in their own right, but swordsmen are supposed to be using the same weapon yet each have their own unique traits.

Marth: Deals more damage the farther an opponent is.
Link: Utilizes other weapons along with his sword.
Ike: Slow, but powerful sword swings.
Duck Hunt Dog: Duck Hunts not a swordsman.
Meta Knight: Fast and aerial based swordplay
Robin: Has access to two different swords with different properties.
Shulk: Changes with each Monado type, giving him a variety of styles
Pit: (does his weapon count as a sword? oh well) Uses two blades that fuse into another weapon.
