I think you won't find many highly skilled players online at all, except the ones that joined just to boost their ego owning noobs. Not because there are too few of them, but because anybody that takes the game seriously will be primarily playing within their friends list. It's already obvious that there will be a ton more features there than the public matchmaking, just like every other Wii/DS game. I wouldn't be surprised if items are forced on in public games, at the very least.
