I talked to some of the top players at Extinction III in Greenville, SC and got their opinions on how Smash 4 is progressing at the competitive level. Interviews from Fatality, Pdude, Fenir & Eitherian

Pretty cool little piece, man. Thanks for sharing. You seem to have a knack for documentation. Have you made any other mini docs like this? You definitely have potential down that path!

Sounds about right. Though I feel like saying Smash adapts to competitive play is rather poor wording. Something like "How is Smash4 developing competitively" might be better.

Nice video! I like how one of the players mentioned how interesting read-based combos were, it's definitely interesting to me too. Hope more players come around to see how exciting Smash 4's flow can be.

I do heavily enjoy read-based combos, but I think they're getting more attention now that there aren't very many true combos and people are forced to heavily step up their read game; people are gaining a greater understanding of likelihood and probability as well as the general art of manipulating it.
Lots of things in Brawl required a read or some semblance of a read to combo (don't get too strict on the definition of combo, just think of it as a string unless it's lead by "true"), but over time, people figured out what was a pretty much guaranteed combo due to tendencies just as they are now, and there's pretty much nothing wrong with that (although it sort of damages creativity, but the art of reading isn't the culprit).
