How do you ledgehop with link?

I can do it for most characters, but it is really hard for me to do it with link. I try to do a fair from a ledgedrop, but I can never make it onto the stage.

i press away from the ledge then jump button. i find it much easier to press away on the control stick rather than pressing down (since Link is a fast faller and its harder to pull off a ledgehop while pressing down opposed to pressing away on the control stick)
