Hello, this is a thread designed to collect up-to-date info on Match-ups for the Ike boards, which is always in desperate need of good info.

I come to you today with a simple set of questions, attempting to get the "other side" of ideas pertaining to the Matchups against Ike. Its just a few simple questions I'm hoping to get answered;

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?
2. What moves do you fear from Ike?
3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?
4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?
5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

Feel free to add anything else that doesn't fit into the questions criteria. The goal is to collect information, so anything s useful.

On a side note, I may feel the need to quote this info. If you don't wished to be quoted, please tell me in your posts, and I will not quote you.

Thanks in advance. ^^

1. A slow swordsmen that alot of noobs use but some people are actually good with him.
2. Any move that isn't a special attack, so any move where pressing A is necessary.
3. His specials, easy to avoid.
4. I try to prey off of his inferior speed, and use yoshi's fast attacks to land hits, and the eggs of course swordies don't do too hot vs. projectiles.
5. I try to keep him from recovering with his sword dash (side B) or whatever it is called by either jumping in the way or timing a Fair spike so that right when he hits me we'll trade hits with me getting knocked back to the stage and him getting spiked to his death.

1. Ike is buff and WILL punish you if you don't take that into consideration
2. His smashes
3. his aerials
4. eggs are good for camping. egg roll is good, dashattack, and bair is good.
5. don't even try Unless you know what you're doing. if his is using >b, then just jump on the ledge, but for his ^b, you have to time your ledge grab just right so that you have invulnerability frames when ike descends

Ike is a good matchup. A good ike vs a good yoshi I think is pretty even.

Go for pivot grabs, and other grabs. You can eat him out of his over b if you're good enough. You can gimp him by taking a hit from his over b when hes trying to recover. Ike is strong, fear all his moves, but Yoshi is not about camping. Just play smart and the match will go at a fun pace.

1. What is your general opinion of Ike as a character?
Ike will be a solid character especially for people who know how to space and read opponents
it's going to take a lot of patience to win a tournament with ike.

2. What moves do you fear from Ike?
lol f-smash, counter, u-tilt, bair, and u-air.

3. Which moves do not trouble you at all?
side-b, fair, dair, it depends many ikes' use different moves right now, i have yet to fight 2 ikes' with the same consistent play-style :/

4. Which moves/techniques do you use against Ike to gain the advantage?

- Yoshi's bair is an excellent move for getting in close to ike. it's fast enough to get through his attacks
without harming yoshi, and can lead to other moves (smashes/tilts/ nair/ lots of stuff :D) however using this too much will result in ike using counter a bit :/.

- Although bair is the best option nair is a good option too for approaching.

- Grabs are amazing against ike. yoshi's long tongue helps him stay safe when approaching ike, and after the grab yoshi can link it into many combos.

- Yoshi's eggs are a great way of putting pressure on ike and making him approach you. and because of yoshi's relatively fast speed he can take advantage of ike when ike gets close.

- eggroll is the last effective approach i've seen against ike. typically a players first instinct is to either shield or attack it. if they shield no big deal but if they attack.....no big deal. yoshi's roll is fast enough to get through ikes smashes. and his tilts/jabs just cancel yoshi's egg and yoshi has zero lag which can lead to a counter attack from yoshi. once again though a smart ike will counter the roll if you start spamming it.

5. What specific edgeguards do you employ versus Ike?

- if he uses quick draw i'd just jump out and take the hit and gimp his recovery. anything else i just need to push him farther away with nair. ^^

Yoshi is actually good/average against ike.

Pros:
- Yoshi is deceptively heavy

- Fast attacks

- can pressure ike with eggs

- Yoshi has a lot of variety for approaching

- edge guards ike very effectively (ike is already easy to edgeguard, and yoshi has a fantastic air game! just watch out for aether because it may take you down too ><.)

- Ike's weight makes it easy for yoshi to combo, and his slow attacks make it harder for him to escape.

- Yoshi's tail has an incredible range and is fast, (think tilts/ dsmash/ Bair) so a well spaced yoshi will be able to punish ike without being close enough to be punished (assuming yoshi is able to pull off the attack first, which shouldn't be a problem)

- Yoshi's grabs once again allow yoshi to be safe, and can set up for combos because of ikes weight.

Cons:
- it's ike....hes a BEAST. despite yoshi being heavy ike still kills faster than other characters. yoshi being heavy is only a minor plus.

- A well spaced ike can typically out space a good yoshi because of superior range.

- Yoshi's grabs if avoided can be punished.......and when you punish with ike....it's over ;_;

- Counter is a very good move against everyone. i feel it deserves a slot here :D. a smart ike will know when to use it.

EDIT: - also a con, because of ikes weight it's going to be hard for yoshi to seal the deal and knock him off the stage. yoshi will really need to know how to edgeguard to get his kills. Yoshi's u-air is probably his best kill move, but because of ikes weight many players will find it easier to knock him off the sides.

1. Ike is a big, heavy character. He is great at punishing, and if the user is good, will exploit almost every opportunity for maxium damage.
2. In general, getting hit by Ike is bad.
3. When Ike charges his smashes, they are easy to avoid. His aerials arent that threatening and ather is pretty easy to predict.
4. Aerial, all the time. The bair in particular is good, because it has decent range. I also try and get behind Ike and egg roll him, becuase the turning gives me enough time to get ike decently off guard.
5. Dair, Fair. Especially when he is starting his ather. Today I actually daired an Ike and then toadstool jumped him when he was doing his ather. It was good stuff

use the egg toss .... all the time.

if he tries to dash at you he should walk right into an egg stunning him enough for 1 of yoshi's dash attacks or a grab.

if ikes off the ledge yoshi should get him then, yoshi's pretty good at dealing with people once there off the stage.

On the stage you should just try to keep distance and wait for the laggier attacks to come out.
