I use Falco's short hop laser almost continuously, my friends complain that it's impossible to get past and it makes falco imbalanced. I wanna help them out, what's a good counter for the SHL?

Well who do they play? If they'd choose Fox I could see them Reflecting all the lazers untill you stop.

They use Ganondorf, Marth, Sheik, Fox, and Captain Falcon . I tell them to use different characters, but they're stubborn.

Well Fox could do as above, Falcon I could see dash jumping over it, and Sheik looks like a low enough runner to get under. Really want to give them a break? Stop SHBing.

Unbalanced? Once they knock Falco off the ledge, it should be GG. Have them pick stages with platforms. Yoshi's Island, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium. Tell them to stop the monotony of their straight forward attacks. Plus, all of those characters can chaingrab Falco to some extent, if not tech chase.

You can slowly advance during the startup animation. For example, a typical Captain Falcon strategy is to just shield the laser once you're in range wait for the Falco to start another laser and rush him with a Nair.

/sigh SHL really owns noobs because they have a bad sense of timing and technical skill.

SHL has a small window of time in between lasers in which can you move, and thus you have many options out of it, such as wavesheilding and SHFFLing an aerial. Also an option that always works is to fulljump, and if you space it well you can land an aerial out of this although it is risky.

SHL is extremely useful but it is not unbeatable.

I laughed at how true that statement was

If I were you i'd say 'Well then, don't get hit'

Yes, I am well aware of Falco's terrible recovery, but they have built falco into this unstoppable bringer of death because they can't figure out to fight back against the SHL. Even going so far as to call it cheating..

NOOO, dont release the secrets of avoiding the shl.....seriously my friends are the same way but some better then others are capable of just moving around it rather then charging forward, but i also show them mercy when we're screwing around and use almost no shl and still win maybe 60% of the time on a good day, then they trash talk and you go nuke mode on them, some good laughs there.

Lmao, my friends used to do that as well. One still complains. The other two stopped whining and started learning and working around it.

One of them plays sheik. He likes to powershield now and then. He gets it pretty consistently. He also likes to crouch and get quick wd's inbetween lasers to get in closer while still crouching. One more is diagonal needles he throws them alot like on fd. Interupts and messes up l canceling for some falcos.

I had trouble with most of these for a while. I've worked past most of them with rshl and "fade aways" learning to shoot them much lower consistently and such so he's been having more trouble lately.

Now the marth.....the choices.....
Counters....Dash attacks....Powershields.....hah and it goes on.
the full laser closeup for marth is on his respective character specifics and they have quite a few possibilities with Marth.

Thats my two cents that I've put up with. I wish your friends the best of luck. :)

Power Shield.
Marth can gimp falco so easily, very good matchup in Marths favor.
And if you're a falco and they spam power shields to reflect your lasers, short hop at them with no laser, grab.
