Platinum Games has announced that co-founder and vice president Hideki Kamiya will be leaving Platinum Games on October 12th, 2023. Their statement includes an expression of gratitude for Kamiya’s work and wishes best of luck for his future endeavors. Kamiya himself would tweet about his departure a few hours later.

Hideki Kamiya directed some of Capcom’s biggest titles in the late 90s and 2000s, such as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Ōkami. After the closing of Capcom subsidiary Clover Studios, Kamiya would go on to become one of the founders of Platinum Games. During his tenure at Platinum, he served as the director for Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101. He also supervised the development of Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Kamiya’s fans do not have to fret too much; He did promise that he will continue to create in the “Hideki Kamiya way”. Whether he ends up founding a new studio or not, it is clear Hideki Kamiya is not done creating new games.

They'd better find someone that can fill those gun-strapped shoes.
With the exception of Resident Evil 4 he was the talent behind their best games, and even then I suspect the best part of RE4 was using what he had developed prior.
