Me for sure. I may not be at the level to take out 3 lvl 9's on the same team out, but that'd still be awesome and unique

It's hard work, but possible. If it was added, it might require another delay, though...

I agree with Frogla, too.

i doubt they will be able to replicate the complexity of human thought and a humans ability to learn and use what they learn to use effective combos and advanced techniques. in a few years when if they make a new smash maybe byt not now.

It's a lot harder to make AI for a fighting game than a FPS. There are way too many situations that could arise.

Human AI is unreasonable. Computers are completely deterministic and flawless. You cannot make a flawless system completely mimic the flaws and unpredictability of the human nature.

However, they should buff each computers ability to recover back to stages.

It'd be awesome if they could actually pull this off. With wavedashing out though it's gonna be harder to manipulate their stupidity anyway, though it's probably still possible.

Of course, human level AI is possible. That's why we have robots wandering around and interacting with people on a daily basis, carrying out conversations, learning, using logical thought and the like. Yup, what an age we live in.

Don't like crappy computer AI? Do what the rest of the people suggested and play online. It's free and guess what? You'll actually get to play an opponent that can think for himself. How awesome is that?

With the online play to perfect, the stage creator system to set up, all the music to calibrate and little glitches to fix, not to mention putting in the extra rendering on stages and creating the new characters and ATs, they aren't going to have the time to make a particularly amazing AI. Most games that have really good AI pride themselves on that AI and mainly nothing else, and the team at Nintendo just doesn't have the time to be working on amazing AI in a game that they are probably already pouring hours into every day.
Basically, I think that the AI will be better than Melee, perhaps the same scale but with numbers going as High as 15 (so lvl 9 is still the same as lvl9 in melee), or just pumped up with a steeper difficulty scale.

So basically, go play online if you want to play human-level AI, and be happy with whatever better AI you get with Brawl.

A.I. technology itself isn't that good yet anyway; there won't be a "human-level" A.I. in a videogame for a while.

I admit, though, they should increase the difficulty of CPUs, particularly the lower levels (which need to actually do something; every level should be capable of killing you, depending on your skill level. As of Melee even somebody playing SSB for the first time has nothing to gain from playing against anything beneath a L4 or L5, simply because those levels don't do anything, literally in the case of L1) and Level 9 (which needs to be significantly improved; it should be something you can actually have some fun with if, say, you're all alone and something goes wrong with your internet connection).

I agree....Theres barely any smashers that I know of in my location and all I have to practice against afre level 9 computers most of the time which doesnt really make you better at smash.....They should increase the level of difficulty for them....

Human level AI... In a video game that does not sound so bad... In the real world, its scary as ****.

Let Capcom program the AI, they did great for the street fighter games, and those use a lot less space to put the game on. There were times in Street Fighter games where I felt the coms were too good for their difficulty levels.

They could make a type of AI that learns from how you play the game as certain characters... that might be possible.

What I think they should add to the AI is the option for different strategies. For example, if you were fighting against a CPU, it'd be cool if you could choose from these strategies:

-Brute Force: CPU gets all aggressive and never stops attacking
-Defensive: CPU gets defensive and seldomly attacks
-Normal: CPU balances attacking and defending

And possibly even more strategies. This will train you to adapt to different people's strategies online, since a lot of people play differently.

Oh, and I don't think AI for the Wii is advanced enough to be human level. Maybe next time. Yeah, next time....

It isn't necessarily the restrictions of the hardware >.>... the XBOX 360 has a lot of very poorly programmed "Pants on head idiotic" AI. It really depends on if the programmers give a crap or not. Also, most people don't like a super hard AI or super hard anything because this day and time most games are what I call too easy, I think they should go back to games being hard... Come on Capcom, make Megaman 9!

They have it already...

Its called Wifi.

But seriously, its almost impossible to replicate a human mind because humans are inventive, and they learn.

Computers don't do that... At least not the ones in video games.

The probably is human thought isn't the same as computer program. Computer follow strict and logically calculates at millions of times faster then the human brain can caluclate and unless it's programming allows it, it really can't react to outside stimi. Is which is how most players alter their moves and use advance techinques. Even with all we know about the human mind there is no computer in the world yet that can emulate such everchanging patterns and alterations.

The CPU could never learn advanced techniques well enough on its own.

The CPU could never become anything more than simple reactions to certain situations due to programming.

Notice how a CFalcon/Ganondorf will ALWAYS uB when you are just above them and in front of them.
Notice how EVERY character can shield reflect EVERY time. That's not human.
You aren't asking for human, you're asking for inhuman. You want to Smash against the Terminator.

To ask for a A.I. that uses advanced techs and strategies veterans think of is as much of a fool's wish as asking for a A.I. that performs on the level of a highly skilled human.

That said, the A.I. in Melee and SSB64 could certainly be improved. And I personally don't think that's asking for much. A.I. technology has come a long way beyond such simple parameters as "If this happens, do this", which, as you said, is exactly how the SSB A.I.s think. Other things like insane levels of powershielding are just things you have to live with if you want to play against a CPU. Besides, the fact that they suck balances their inhuman abilities out, don't you think?

If the A.I. isnt human level, I'll be very pissed off. I am sick of playing lvl. 9 CPUs. They are painfully easy. Who else wants human level A.I.?
I definitely want high A.I. Human-level is currently impossible, I'm sure, but the A.I. can still be upgraded. The online play will help me find human opponents, though, so this problem will be somewhat minimized.

To have everyone stop reiterating the same things and bumping the thread, it's about time this thread is closed.

We can't hope for amazing AI. There's a point at which it can only go so far. But that's why online has been implemented.
