Smash Lord
Edit 06/20 : Qlex will be travelling with me so we'll be two ! He's awesome and people really liked him when he attended Genesis last time !
Hi guys!
Some of may remember me as one of the French players who travelled to California in 2009, to attend Genesis, do some sightseeing, and even more important meet quite a few amazing guys.
Well, Genesis is back, and so am I!
I don't know exactly when I'll arrive and leave, or even where, but my vacation is set between July 9 and 24. The only thing I know is that I'll be taking the awesome smash bus on the 14th of July (I'll be spending my country's national day in the bus
). I won't take it again on the way to San Diego, though, as I'll stay in NorCal after Genesis 2.
I haven't set what I'll be doing yet. Last time, we travelled a lot around California (and went to Las Vegas), but the thing that disappointed me was that we only stayed in cities (to be accurate: LA, Anaheim, SD and Chula Vista, San Francisco + bay, Las Vegas). Considering the fantastic natural resources of California, I'd want to see more than cities this time. For instance I'd want to see some national parks (most likely Yosemite), do some hiking in some nice place... whatever, I'm open to any proposition.
So my first question would be: what do you recommend me to do? In your opinion, what is a must-do/must-see? I'm open to anything, be it in cities or in natural places, so don't hesitate making suggestions! My only limitation is that I won't be able to rent a car. I know how much of a handicap it is in Cali, but I don't really have a choice, and I'm used to taking public transportation. So if you have any ideas, whatever it is, just go.
Also, if some of you always wanted to do sightseeing in some place, or go for a two-day hike somewhere else, or whatever you never had the occasion to do... this might be the good moment! As I said, I'm open to any proposition, so just say any idea you have!
I know I could search that in a travel book/on the internet, but I'm much more interested in everyone's experience. You are likely to know places which may not be as well-known as the famous ones, but may actually be as good or better. I'm looking for these sorts of hidden gems.
But I also have a second question: could anyone house me? I'm not even asking this in order to avoid paying an hotel. I could actually afford that, even though it would make my budget go from tight to super tight. No, the reason why I'd like to be housed by local smashers is that I want to meet people. It's much more interesting to actually meet an actual person, instead of a hotel employee. Especially when traveling to another country, where you can meet people with a totally different background. Back in 2009, I've been housed by TheLifeRuiner, Connor, Rickety, ~automatic, Zhu and Sheen, and meeting them contributed a lot to the awesomeness of my US trip, be it for their kindness (I'm not sure everyone would house a group of four guys they've never seen, coming from the other side of the planet), or the fun we had spending time with them (and I hope they had fun with us too!).
If you are interested in housing me, just post on this thread, wherever you live in California (I also consider traveling to OR, NV or AZ if I find housing and/or interesting things to do over there). No matter where you live, I'll consider going, be it just for one night because I know how fun it can be.
Regarding housing, I don't need much, safe for a roof and a shower. I'm used to sleeping in pretty bad conditions: in Europe, hotels are much more expensive, so during tournaments we sleep at the venue. In the best case, we have an inflatable mattress, a sleeping bag/blanket and a pillow. In the worse, we just line up a few chairs and prepare ourselves for one of the worst nights of out life. So yeah, anything beyond a roof and a shower will be a bonus for me![Laugh :laugh: :laugh:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/laugh.gif)
During my trip, I'll travel either alone, or with Qlex (who was also there during our 2009 trip), and/or Salepâte (who attended a tournament in Oregon not so long ago). Both are unlikely to come though, especially Qlex. Because of the experience we gathered last time, we understood that being four people was too much to ask for most people, and we agreed to split if necessary (for housing or because we want to see different things).
My spoken English is fairly good, though afflicted by an almost caricatural French accent, so communication shouldn't be a problem. I also see myself as an overall calm, nice and polite guy, so you won't be facing some *******, even though I play Sheik (but I suck at chaingrabbing with her so it's not that bad
)
Feel free to ask any question, and even more important, please suggest me things to see/do! Help me make this trip awesome!
TL;DR: I'm coming back to the US to spend two weeks in Cali. Please help me make this trip the best ever by recommending things to do/see, or by housing me.
