Help please! My Melee tournies are jacked!

Ok, I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong place. But I need help, about two weeks ago I went to Vintage Stock and picked up SSBM. My Melee tournies are screwed up. One day I was playing a 8 person tourny with my little bro. Now the first round he died off and lost to a cpu. I advanced to the next round. Now heres the problem. The next round my character (Samus) was on my little bros controller not mine! (What the crap?) And the weird thing is I've never had this problem with tournies before! What should I do? Should I take it back and get a new one? (I still have some time to take it back) HELP!

First of all, while I can't think of a rule that this thread shouldn't be here, no one wants to talk about tournament mode. Now to answer your problem. This is how it's supposed to be. The solution is to switch controller ports.

It switches because 1st player will always be controlling whoever is to the left on the bracket and 2nd player controls whoever is on the right.

Like Geenareeno said, just switch ports
