Help diagnose my lag problem

I just got a new comp with vista and it randomly lags. It spikes pritty bad. I know it's not the internet and the computer has 2 gigs ram and 2 ghz processor which is plenty so it has to be vista.

I've talked to scampy and he's suggested a lot but none of them have helped. He said it's probably my version of Vista (Home basic 32 bit) which won't allow me to tweak my graphics accelerator.

Does anyone play ssb64 lag free on Home Basic Vista?

Anyone's ideas on how to fix my lag would be greatly appreciated.

Dash fox knows.

more RAM or pehaps a better vid card...with Vista sucking so much out of your computer you may need more Video mem...unless you have say a 256...if thats the case get more ram xP

I use Vista for a different CPU, if you can see it well, make the video size smaller. That always works for me. Mupen also works better for Vista anyway and never lags for me

Please tell me that it's dual core. My last comp had 2.6Ghz and it still lagged bad.

I run 3GB RAM, Vista SP1 32bit. Wait, you did upgrade to SP1, right? Anything before that sucks. And even then, there are plenty of tweaks you can do to make Vista even less of a resource hog. I did a few.

That sucks. I needed a cheap computer and I don't know much about computers. I definitely would have upgraded processors if I had known.

Can you replace processors lol?

Ok well Jaime says a 2ghz intel celeron should run ssb64 lag free on XP. And I've wanted XP instead of Vista anyway.

So I'll have to find a way to get XP.

yes, but it has to be done carefully or you can damage your motherboard, you also need to know what kind of Processors does your motherboard support.
holy ****, it speaks human!

and it knows what its talking about !!¿

my home computer is only a 2.4 GHz and runs fine...try using the old 0.9 kaillera Client

only problem with that is you wont be able to log into EGX once theres 50+ memebers

as for p2p...you shouldnt lag there >_<

Surri, he said Vista. You know, the system with indexing and Superfetch, not to mention more graphical effects?

Most "brand new" laptops are Dual Core. At least tell me what yours is [mine is an Inspiron 1525, should say it somewhere, don't just tell me HP or Dell]. Or is there a sticker? On the bottom right of mine, there is a sticker that says "Intel Core 2 Duo Inside". If there is a Duo listed somewhere, it's Dual Core. All new computers at the very least have that.

A new computer with 2.0Ghz SINGLE Core is an ancient machine.

If it is a DUO, then it might be that your internet is just unstable. Mine used to lag bad at night [even P2P], but magically fixed one day to the other, and my College Internet is 10Mbps and lags BAAAAAAAAAAD . Also make sure your router has a WEP, and check the router log to see if *******s are leeching your internet, maybe that's what fixed my instability [all those IPhones. <_<].

I use vista too, I recommend to execute the PJ64k as "Run as windows XP compatibility mode" also "Run program as administrator" to go free of errors and stupid bugs/lag spikes/whatever.
I never have problems or lag issues.
