Wow, you guys are seriously missing the point of all this. This has NOTHING to do with games at all. Read my post.

well everyone who plays madden is homophobic anyways.

i mean, afterall, what could be less gay then men tackling men wearing tights, *** slapping out on the field followed by a nice group shower and more *** slapping (using towels this time of course)?

get some new friends. here's a tip: if they describe things they don't like as "gay," they probably aren't worth your time!
Quote for epic win!

You know i think most homophobes are homophobic because they aren't secure on their sexual orientation and must act like that to "appear manly".

For example I saw a guy in my school kiss another guy and some months after that he was saying he is homophobic and is against gay marriage!

Ok now back on topic I've never had anyone say that to me before, all my friends like melee some are n00bs but they like it. I'm on 12th grade and most of my classmates have reserved brawl copies, and both boys and girls.

I suggest you stay away from those "friends" of yours and people who describe things as gay like autobzooty said.

Ooh and just how old are they? I bet they are kids who think they are way cool because they listen to rap, drink and smoke... Tsk, pathetic.

Well judging by the way your friends use horrible english, I assume they are in the "urban" culture. And if this is the case pretty much the only non lame video games are Madden, other sports games, and maybe some shooters. If this story is true, your friends are stupid and the culture is crap. Rap is horrible. Listen to good music.

so i went to the mall and a couple of friends went with me, getting their drank on, and their smoke on, they bought some stuff and i was like "hey lets go to eb, i wanna check out some games "

so we go and we arrive at eb, im checking out the games, they go and they start playing madden(they love it), and then i see a preview of smash bros brawl on the tvs they got and i say "i cant wait till that comes out"

my friends drop their controls and slowly look at themselves and then at me...they gave me this cold stair and one of em said "yo, what the **** man, are you gay or something?"

i just looked back and said "no dude, its a fun game...seriously"

then my other friend replied "i dont know man...that **** is kinda suspect...that games looks mad gay"

i was like "whatever man"

eventually we leave and go back, but the car ride was awful, it was dead silent, i was gonna put on the radio but one of my friends just looked at me and shook his head and said "no..."

so i left the radio off and rode off into a 30 minute awkward silence before dropping my friends off

i couldnt help but wonder...does playing smash bros. make you a LAME?

you decide

NO, i know soooo many people who like it, i mean they were high and drunk so... thats my only explaition...

I love sports, too! I love to play as much as i can. But I hate to play them as videogames. I can't stand to watch it on TV. And I have a little (little little little) fun watching it live at the stadiums. But i'm much more of a hands-on type of sports-lover.

Aside from my half-joke of calling your friends lame for going straight to the madden game, they really ARE awful people. It's rather disgusting, actually.

I meant every word I said in my earlier post.

You guys smoked and drank...you guys are old enough to be driving around...so obviously you're not in high school (if you are...re-think your hobbies surrounding alcohol and tobacco/marijuana). So you're old enough to ****ing stay away from those kinds of people! God, seriously...what are you doing?!

1. Find different people that best matches your personality (find like-minded people)
2. Become their friends, let the friendship happen on its own
3. At the same time, slowly deteriorate the "friendship" you have with these scumbags
4. Hang out with these new friends more and build strong bonds with them
5. Completely cut off your ties with the pathetic losers.
6. Move on, don't look back, and enjoy being surrounded by a new group of amazing people who make you feel good to be around them, and consider them your new friends.

Easy 6-step solution for anyone having a similar problem.

NO! My whole group of friends and including my school practically grew up with all nintendo games. When Nintendo 64 came out AUZ went mad for it. SO everyone loves playing smash and mario kart. So when i said to everyone that brawl is on its way their replies were like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REALLY

This is VERY true. There isnt anyone i know who doesnt love playing a bit of Smash or Mario Kart. Seems to me like its alot different down under compared to the U.S side of things (and this isnt only from views posted on the forum, but from a few people i know from america), people are generally more socially accepting (unless you're one of the "fully sick"s, anyone from Australia knows very well who i mean when i say this).

Hell, a family friend of ours is 40 odd, covered in tatts, and he's mad about Wii, Smash, Mario, anything nintendo. I can produly say, that there is less stereotyping down under in regards to games. It's great.

I think the worst part of this story is that your "friends" stopped you from turning the radio on in your own car.

Forget the whole not liking Smash, that's a matter of opinion, regardless of how shallow they expressed the opinion.

However, stopping you from turning the radio on in your own car? Unless they had a splitting migraine or some other ailment, that should have earned them a walk home right there.

And no, liking Smash does not make you lame or uncool, especially compared to a game that hasn't even attempted to update itself except for graphics and other gimmicky features for at least six years now.

Odd. Brawl is extremely cool in my class, pretty much everybody here loves Melee and can't wait until Brawl comes out.

You, good sir, know what you're talking about. I wish the rest of the people posting here realized what's going on.

^I'm sorry, this made me laugh so hard! how slow was his turn?

Well some people like Brawl some don't, and its ok.

But, most of those people don't like nintendo in general, so its those kind of people who don't like it.

Anyone w/ a Wii wil own this!!!

They sound like ***** to tell you the truth and since you can drive im guessing your a senior in highschool or in college. If there the same age as you then their pretty immature and they still continued to act that way after leaving the mall. I personally have friends that love smash brothers and cant wait for the new one to come out. Even hot girls love smash brothers haha Ill go to their house adn play (although their not that good) and even friends that dont like the series dont say im gay.

This has been happening to me ever since I started watching anime and listening to j-rock and j-pop. You'll get used to it, unless you like having friends in which case you'll need to compromise.

Conclusion:

Your friends aren't as far into the gaming scene as you are.

You can only talk about games and whacky things, hence the awkward silence.

Your taste in music isn't shared by your friends.

But don't worry, these things happen to most gamers. Weird people they are, they occasionally scare me. :psycho:

Well, I had people in my class that went what the hell is that game?!?!

Then I said it's a game that has Nintendo characters from different series fight. Quite fun really, very different from other fighting games. Oh, I forgot to mention that it also has Solid Snake and Sonic announced which aren't from Nintendo. You'll love it.

Then they say cool, look forward to playing it or something.

I myself used to not like SSB64...didn't like jumping by UP or C buttons...didn't like how you survive after being thrown off. But a day or 2 after playing it, I loved the game and bought it.

So let'em try it first before saying the game is gay :)

I have a lot of my friends who think that i'm a bit a geek for watching smash videos and going on forums for it but they can't say anything when I beat them at it. If it bothers you that much, you can try finding a community that will gladly accept your preferences in games and even other aspects of culture. Of course it'll be hard to switch since they are still your friends but you could gradually move yourself if it is a big problem.
