And if I am not mistaken, HJ provides housing, Slayer. But if need be, OF COURSE I ****ING WILL! Just as long as people pitch in at least a LITTLE money this time. I was out nearly $200 after the weekend...

In simply responding with a date, I feel my intelligence insulted, as if I could not possibly have grasped WHEN this tournament actually is being held.

By saying tentative and giving a range of three days, in conjunction with your use of a singular date I am led to believe that for this event you were looking at choosing one of out those three days: Friday 11/30, Saturday 12/1, or Sunday 12/2.

Contrary to what you've posted before, you give activities for two of the mentioned possible days that HJ5 might be held during. Since this was what I last read, I assumed by this post that you meant HJ5 to have only two days. However, thinking back to the tentative date of 11/30-12/2, I could only conclude that HJ5 would either be on 11/30 and 12/1, Friday and Saturday, or on 12/1 and 12/2, Saturday and Sunday.

Because I did assume someone as respectable as you, Eighteenspikes, would not be one to make a mistake in posting crucial information without correcting your mistake later, I had to take your arguments both as true, that HJ5 was to be set on a "date", and that HJ5 was to be a two-day event. Two days cannot fit into one day, so to make a date fit two days I simply expanded the meaning of date to include two of the three possible days.

And so far, according to my logic, given the information you have provided me, at this point in time HJ5 is looking like it will be a two-day event. I have never attended any prior HandsomeJett's, and so have no prior redoric as to how the tournament was run in the past (redoric here meaning the knowledge or ideas of something from which conclusions may be drawn,) and as such I am unable to make inferences based on past HJ performances as far as time is concerned. I might have tried to guess whether or not past HJ's were 1-day, 2-day, or 3-day events if not for the fact that I couldn't know if they were or not, and without being able to know for certain, I couldn't make a guess, because taking ungrounded guesses on a matter one knows nothing about is simply not something the average person does if they want to be right. I try to be correct whenever possible, and without knowing for certain the dates of past HandsomeJett's, I could only make inferences based on the information you have provided for us in this thread, Eighteenspikes.

Based on this rather biting quip in trying to educate me on what day December 2nd falls on, one could infer that you mean December 2nd to also be a day HJ5 is held on, in addition to the Friday and Saturday previously mentioned. However, I cannot assume this inference, because you do not clearly indicate that Friday and Saturday are confirmed as being the days during which HJ5 can be held.

Going deeper into your statement here... you use Friday and Saturday merely as examples of a possible solution to a problem. Given how I assume your inclination to not misinform people, it would follow that by suggesting the solution of having pools on Friday and Saturday night you would not hesitate to hold HJ5 on Friday and Saturday. In doing so you confirm that HJ5 has the distinct possibility of being a 2-day event (which is confirmed by the other smashers mentioning day 2 activites); however, you do not confirm that it IS Friday and Saturday that will be the two days of HandsomeJett5, because you give the dates merely as an example as opposed to as a fact of truth. Since Friday and Saturday are not both confirmed as the two-days of HandsomeJett5, I felt it necessary to attempt to tilt HJ5 in favor of those who would not be able to attend Friday by asking if the two day event could be held on Saturday and Sunday, 12/1 and 12/2 instead, and by doing so allowing us to enjoy the entire HJ5 as opposed to only a fraction of it.

In conclusion...
Unless I'm told otherwise, HJ5 is a 2-day event. With it being a 2-day event, I cannot be faulted for asking it to be held on the two days that would be more convenient for me (especially with no one else being the contrary and having Sunday be their most inconvenient day)

And for the obvious that will be coming...

out nearly 200 bucks??? how do you figure? oshkosh is like what, give or take an hour? that's 15 bucks (I'll give you twenty) gas money, and then 25 for your entree fee. Assuming you paid 7 people's entree fee, you're still not at 200 bucks...

I housed 16 people (food, soda, and Toliet Paper), went to EoF's house to pick him up, there's 15 bucks there and back, then had to drop him off, so there is another 15, drove people there and back, paid myself and EoF in...food...yeah...about 200 bucks. I am getting some of it from EoF...but still...thats about 200...

Either way, you still have my pillow, and I want it back. If the tourney starts on a Saturday, we could spend the night at your place Friday and stay at the tourney the next night.

It kinda depends if I want to go too lol.

If it's on a saturday and works out like Fudge 2, (with housing from Zicore too ;)) I can see the Winona people coming to this.

the people that would most likely be in a saturday pool are out of staters, most of which will probably already play eachother a lot, and not want to be in the same pool.

for an ideal mixture in pools, we would need those from both in state (close locals who can game on friday), and out of state (those that may not be able to play until late friday).

if it really comes down to it, I can ditch my later friday classes, but we'll see.

Alright mr objection, here's some sleuthing I did for you. I started by reading that link you posted about weekends, and thanks for that, it was very helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wikiweekend said:
This article does not cite any references or sources.
Sometimes the end of the preceding work day is considered part of the weekend.
Cool! That seems to help my case. But it doesn't cite any sources, and it's a little bit vague. It doesn't actually say the weekend includes Friday. Maybe we should check out some other sources on the internet instead of that uncited Wikipedia entry, just in case there's any uncertainty:

http://www.answers.com/topic/weekend
The end of the week, especially the period from Friday evening through Sunday evening.

http://dict.die.net/weekend/
usually Friday night through Sunday

http://www.wordnet-online.com/weekend.shtml
a time period usually extending from Friday night through Sunday; more loosely defined as any period of successive days including one and only one Sunday

http://www.allwords.com/word-weekend.html
the period from Friday evening to Sunday night.

http://www.yourdictionary.com/weekend
the period from Friday night or Saturday to Monday morning; end of the week

And heck, if that's not enough for ya (who can trust that wacky cyberspace these days), I busted out my Webster's Unabridged just for you:

And on page 2,075 we find:

So now we see that there is substantial backing to defining a weekend as covering the span of anytime as early as Friday night, to as late as Monday morning. The event's tentative date (not range of dates) is November 30 (a Friday) to December 2 (a Sunday). In other words, HJ5 will be weekend long.
And the date is tentative because HJ5 will be canceled if enough people are turned away by how ****ty you're making my thread. Knock it off.

****, so it will be starting on a Friday. It'll be tough for us OOStaters to get there with classes during the day. What would be going on during Friday, just pools?

Okay cool, an unpretentious post to respond to :)

I said earlier that it can maybe be worked around. I haven't ironed it all out just yet, but a possibility is for us to have one set of pools for singles and teams on Friday. Let's say we get 120 people, 90 of which are there on Friday. We can do 4 8-team pools and 8 8-man pools on Friday night, and the other 4/8 on Saturday morning. There would still be an extra 26 players to flesh out pools so you late guys don't play each other. While this wouldn't be the most efficient way, it would be the only way if A) A substantial amount of people can't go on Friday and if B) We want to get anything done on Friday.

The alternatives are writing smashboards pre-reg's into second pools, or having teams on Friday and you late guys are gonna miss out. The first alternative is unfair, and the second isn't preferable because some of you will miss out, and paying separately makes registration painful.

That second alternative is probably the most likely to occur, but I was just kind of brainstorming ways to accomodate players when Chronosquare blew the situation out of proportion with his 800 word post.

You can give me some suggestions and input if you'd like. Otherwise, as EoF quite wisely noted, you can hang tight for a bit. We'll have more to work with once I announce the venue details on Thursday, which is.. uhh.. *checks calendar* in 2 days.

as far as starting Friday goes... We left river falls at like 4 to go to Oshkosh, and got there at 10:30... If I were to actually leave early (9-10) I could realistically get there (based on time to Fudge) by 5-6

So my vote is pools around 7 PM friday night possibly....

My first thought was your first idea, to have half of the people who will be there Friday day be in pools, but leave the other half or so people in the pools with the OOStaters that would be coming in late. But since you know more stuff about tournaments than I, I'll just sit back until more details trickle in for the venue.

Also, is this was you had planned as of right now?

Friday: Pools
Saturday: Finish up pools/Teams bracket
Sunday: Singles bracket

All right... I have one thing to say... if you just ignore my posts, this one I want you to read...

GET THE F.UCK OFF MY BACK ABOUT MY POST

Seriously, all that 800 word post is, is me SHOWING to Spikes WHY I thought the way I did; I was NOT blowing ANYTHING out of proportion until everyone else decided to be ******** about it and flame me because I tried to do something THAT I THOUGHT WOULD WORK

I did it like that because I felt I had to convince Spikes why I thought like that, because I felt just saying "Oh this and this is why I thought it was only 2 days" would just get f.ucking laughed at. And now, I'm getting f.ucking laughed at anyways. (Though FINALLY spikes stopped being a prick about it and came out and said "Oh well HJ5 is going to be a 3-day event" with his defining what a weekend is... (Seriously, how many people here consider FRIDAY to be part of the weekend? NOT F.UCKING ME)

I wonder if I should even bother with going to HJ5 now, as it seems that
EVERYONE IS F.UCKING AGAINST ME IN F.UCKING EVERYTHING I DO

I'm out now to do homework. You all can just sit tight until I get some time this weekend to finish FBT2 crews... oh, and while you're sitting tight, someone fire up the barbecue, because I feel in the mood for some fricasseed Bidoof.

Why am I first on the list???

And I think spikes was mad because this topic was supposed to get people interested in HJ5, not hearing what Chronosquare thought the weekend was...

and for the record, I am able to house whatever people need it, though I think they can stay at HJ...

Everyone from WI, sans Crashman and Tapion, suffer from a major case of fail. I think Crashman and Tapion should move out of there so we can disconnect WI from the internet so I don't have to deal with butthurt WI crying all over my internets.

dude, seriously sliq, shut up. This thread isnt so you can bash us, its to get HJ5 out there and try and get interest from OOS. But you keep bashing us and crap, and if I was an OOS, I wouldn't want to go because maybe they think you are as annoying in real life as you are on here. I don't want to start anything, I am just sick of you bashing everyone from WI in our threads. If you don't like us, then don't post in our threads. I want to give as much credit to spikes as possible, and keep him happy because he is hosting 2 big tournies in about a 2 months 2 months span. Give the guy some credit.

He wrote an entire essay of a post (HE GAVE IT A THESIS lol) about how 11/30-12/2 could be anything BUT 3 days just because I mentioned the idea of splitting pools into Friday and Saturday. Even though he said he had fun writing it, I consider that post to be beyond the realm of sarcasm or humor, especially when it crosses over into cynically insinuating that I was misleading the reader by posting "11/30-12/2" as the date.

If you have a question, READ THE FIRST POST AND MAKE SURE IT WASN'T ANSWERED, then if you're still confused, ASK THE QUESTION. Seriously, Chronosquare could have just posted:

"wait im confused, you're doing teams and singles on Friday and Saturday? what are we doing on Sunday then? :veryconfu "

and I would have clarified. Seriously, what's it going to take to stop these smartass would-be intellectual walls of text, filled with garbled syntax and unsubstantiated rhetoric? I just don't know what to do anymore :urg: *blows nose*

WELL MOVING ON :chuckle:

Today I went into GameCrazy and talked to the manager. Just like for HJ4, they'll have a lot of extra TV's and Gamecubes and SSBM's to set aside for us. The manager is staying in touch with the district manager over this, and apparently they are both really excited for HJ5. Even though Brawl doesn't have a street date, they're looking to arrange a way for us to get it pre-release. More info on that as time passes.
Other than that, not much new information. I did some analysis of potential attendants and the prospects of locals, and I got an excellent response. Based on this, I'm going to confirm the tournament regardless of this thread's perceived interest as long as the venue is affordable.
Tomorrow's the big day!

I don't know if you know how many set-ups they have, but would you need other TV's/Setups? Cause I think I can bring a TV...idk after that.

Yeah, for sure. These setups will just be supplemental... I'm guessing they can provide a minimum of 4. They have like 10 tvs/gamecubes, but only 2 copies of smash, more of which will be imported from neighboring stores. Everything after that would just be icing on the cake :lick:

also there were 1 or 2 Gamecrazy tv's with lag last year, I'll talk to them about that and have them either test the tv's this year or just bring extra.

I'm not going to waste my time sorting through this bull****, so I guess I'll just ask: Is this actually a multiple-day event? I don't want to go that far more than once...
Yup! If the venue is affordable, we'll have the entire facility for all 72 hours of Friday-Sunday. The place is huge so you can bring a sleeping bag and crash in a separate room. If you would prefer an actual room, there are hotels within 10 minutes but none like right next to the venue. Just some food for thought.

MAMA ALWAYS SAID PEOPLE WHO MESS WITH BIDOOFS AINT TOO BRIGHT, DERRRRP!
