This has happened to all of us. I die a little inside when it happens to me. It has costs us matches sometimes too. What am I talking about? Losing your double jump and not realizing it then not reacting..........so here's what I thought. Maybe we should get a visual cue like the characters glowing red or blue, etc. Some visual cue. Remember this is basically a sequel to Melee and things move fast as hell. So you might not realize it.

I think you're actually touching on a much bigger subject here.

How and when you Double Jump matters a ton. Stealing double jumps is a thing. (Timing attacks for right after they double jump.)
It sort of falls into Resource Management and awareness.

It also touches on technical execution. How to DI up without losing a jump and buffering Up.

If you might not have your double jump, you can plan you're recovery differently too.

Not sure if that's the response you're looking for lol.

Although the ring works in most cases, several characters (who would technically be able to do a double jump outside of Smash) don't have this visual cue.
However, these characters also tend to have multiple jumps or generally better recoveries. A few examples are Jigglypuff, Meta Knight, and ROB. Jiggs puffs up on each aerial jump, MK flaps his wings, ROB fires his Robo-Booster for a short period of time (although this creates a different visual cue which can be seen if his double jump is sniped).

there's that ring that shows up when you double jump. look for it

Some people don't notice given how fast things are going.

It would be great for noobies and people with bad reaction times to have a bigger visual cue.

Shouldn't it be the player's responsibility to manage their jumps and pay attention to the match closely? It adds level of skill that makes the game more interesting.
I usually always look at my opponent. And only look at my char when recovering.

Then change your habit and look at everything. Constantly analyze your next option. This is pretty cliché advice but in your case it sounds like you are the one at fault. I think Project M should intentionally not represent everything with some sort of visual cue since it takes away a skill curve on the game. Next we will be asking for our characters to flash and play a sound when we can tech on a surface.

To an extent, though there are times when I swear I have my second jump and it turns out that I'm wrong. A reminder might not be necessary for the game to thrive, but it very well could be useful to everyone in the end.

That's exactly what I mean It would be great for casuals and people with bad reaction times to have a bigger visual cue.

The circles are more obvious than the picture toaster posted shows because they radiate out and are visible for a few frames.

I personally have no sympathy towards this "issue" because being either a casual player or someone with bad reaction time has no bearing on missing something that is actually plainly visible if you know to look for them during times of importance.

C'mon really? Keeping track of jumps was something I learned even before I played smash competitively. If you are honestly still dying because of not keeping track of your jumps you've got a lot of learning to do.

No tbh It only happened to me five times in my 17 years of life. I only brought this up because I noticed it happened a lot during Zenith and EVO.
You can close the thread. I quit lol.

17 here too; it would be better if this 'visual cue' was added as an option instead of being a permanent thing

great idea, lets also add goku to the game while we're at it, and the characters with wings should have endless jumps (it would make like A LOT more sense right? xDDD)

Catching people's DJ AND having them unaware makes it even better

Dude, in Smash, your double jump is SACRED. Good players will be sniffing if out and if they bait it, you will get punished. You should always keep track when you use your double jump, or if you play someone with multiple jumps, how many jumps you have left. The only time you wouldn't be aware you lost your jump is if you were panicking and mashing on jump to escape from something, which you shouldn't do anyway.

You know, a lot of the time I don't want my opponent to know I still have a jump. Just saying.
I forgot about that mindgame. I also said the mods could close the thread I just wanted to hear thoughts on the topic. We still need to fill in the character weaknesses blanks lol.

I think we're done here.

Threads like this can really be discussed in the General P:M thread.
