WHEEE! Ky's frc's aren't that hard with a little practice. Trust me. Good luck unlocking stuff because missions were a ***** in that game. x_ X I can't believe I put myself through all that.

As for jump install, jump install is performed by pressing any upward direction on your pad (or stick) when you use a jump cancellable move during a string. The string prevents you from jumping so that you can use it for later. There's a few applications of jump install in that video I posted earlier. In some of those clips, you see me using my double jump during a super jump (which normally isn't possible). But jump install makes that possible. ;) You can also use it for some wacky pressure strings as well.

And as far as Ky goes in GGX2, he has some nice colors but combo-wise, he didn't really gain much in the transition from GGX -> GGX2 aside from Sacred Edge which is great for extending combos. He got Greed Sever though which is a much better move than Crescent Slash because it can avoid moves and hit the opponent. Oh yeah, his standing HS animation is better too, no more swinging it like a wand (wtf did they do that in the first place?).
Thanks for the advice.I have been trying to do some JI combo's because JI is preety easy.

And yeah,I am having a hard time unlocking stuff.I'm going to go practice some more.

Thanks!!

If you'd like to learn more about the GGXX system, you can go here as it pretty much covers just about everything you need to know: http://web.archive.org/web/20051219035329/www.gamecombos.com/games/ggxx/

It's a GGXX/GGX2 website and it's kinda old but a lot of that information is still applicable to Slash and even Accent Core.
Just a question...

But first off,I know that a majority of poeple play import GGXX expansions,so I wanted to know if you play them with a modod PS2,or do you use CD based programs such as swap magic?

I would love to play GGXX:AC,but I can't because I don't want to desicrate my PS2's life span.

What should I do it there are any alternative methods?

You could try loading it via hard drive. I'm not too familiar with that method however. :\

But yeah, I play on a modded ps2. If you have a US ps2 then you need to mod the ps2 AND use swap magic. Only other alternative is the hard drive or use a Japanese ps2.

Or install a modchip. Probably the most convenient option, assuming you have access to a soldering iron. Otherwise, fliptop + swap magic works fine.

Hey, I just saw this topic on the front page. I'm a Guilty Gear fanatic, as well. I've been training for 3-4 months to try to get good enough to go to GGXX/ tourneys along with the SSBM ones... it hasn't been going too well, but I've got a pro who lives 10 minutes from my house tutoring me, and he says I'm improving ^_^ I play Ky, mostly, but I also play Millia a bit, and I'm trying to pick up Baiken (<3 the new Baiken art!)

I was originally introduced to this series by a friend of mine who got X2 for $10 at a convention somewhere, brought it back here, played it with my OTHER friend, who was ranting about how cool it was, eventually brought it to my house, held their own for 3 matches or so, and started to lose. I showed it to a couple others, and we've been playing it as the party game of choice ever since (they never play SSBM with me anymore because I'm too good, hehe. Now, of course, I'm just as much better than they are at Guilty Gear, so they're trying to shift again.)

P.S Guilty Gear on the Wii would be WEIRD! I'll stick to Ps2, thanks.

Yeah, I'm trying to get into Baiken too. . .I'm having a hard time nailing down her playstyle though. She's just too defensive/campy for my tastes, though I hope that I can get used to it eventually.

And have you seen her new counter? It's a friggin' Superman counter. . .she blocks a hit, randomly flies above you and lands behind you. From the vids, it looks like it's practically impossible to properly pressure Baiken. She has a get-out-of-pressure-for-free card. Geez.

And if GGXX^C comes out for the Wii, I'm hoping that it's a proper arcade translation that's compatible with the classic controller. No wiimote gimmicks, thank you. I don't want to FRC by shaking the wiimote or some other silly trick.

Yeah Baiken is a pretty ******** character in ^C for the reasons you mentioned. Her new counter makes her practically unpressurable. Which is stupid because it's a normal attack and doesn't require meter. If it were a force break then that's a fair tradeoff. But yeah, aside from her, a lot of characters are looking retardedly good. Testament probably being the most. I dearly hope that this home release is a re-balanced version but also with the option to select the original arcade version in the event that the community can't decide which one we should use. It would only help the game.

Apparently, though, that new HS Counter that Baiken has doesn't really give her any invulnerability... so it seems like it's impossible to just spam it to get out of pressure, or you might get punished. I've never played the game, though, so it's only speculation ^_^ Tesu scares the crap out of me... and my friend Zach, who's already better than me, wants to play as him now! What do I do?!

Yeah, that's EXACTLY why Testament is stupidly good in this game. Did he really need that? He was already good in Slash.

As for that new Baiken counter, even if it doesn't give her invulnerability, it's still pretty hard to punish unless you're explicitly looking to bait it every time you try to advance on her. If you get too close to her and she does it, chances are you'll get hit unless you're ducking in which case she just flies over your head. You may not get hit, but you lose all the momentum you just had. :\

I can see it being a problem, but it's not going to be the only thing Baiken ever does under pressure. It's like free air combos for anyone who guesses it, as far as I can tell. It'll probably be like Ky's Stun Edge corner trap in Slash... it works up until people see it coming, then they'll do something to mess you up for not changing your strategy.

Note that if anyone here is up for #Reload online, I'm game.
while we're at it, anyone know of good ps2 -> xbox controller adapters? i've got a pretty expensive stick (hori brand, just been usin it for stuff like kof netplay lately) and last night i bagged the xbox versions of #reload and sf anniversary collection for cheap (these'll be the first time i'll ever have played GG or 3S, yeah i know i'm far behind the curve) but don't want to touch them until i can put the stick to use with em, so...

pdk: Ooh, what kind of Hori? Real Arcade Pro? I use a Red Octane PS2 > USB/XB/GCN converter and there hasn't been any lag or dropped inputs, as far as I can tell when playing SC2 on the Xbox or #R on the PC or XB.

Also, just wanted to throw out that I use Swap Magic to play Slash and other imports... I have the microswitches on my Slimline pushed down with random household items (tissue, tape, cereal box ish, etc.) and never had to open up my console so the warranty's still valid. :)

actually just the fighting stick 2; i know it's a step down from hori's UBER BETTER THAN SEX YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT MAN lines but considering i could probably just throw down around $10 or $20 to replace the actual stick part if it ever proves to be inadequate, ehh i'll just cross that bridge when i get to it

and any word on how well this is?

Note that I'm not referring to the Xbox version. I'm referring to the PC version. There was a fan-made patch recently released that allows for almost flawless online play. And considering it's PC software, and the INTERNET EXISTS, well...

Preety good news,i'm going to purchase a slim PS2 for 50 dollars from my best friend,so I was thinking about the whole Swap Magic situation, and I wanted to know a couple of things:

1.Where am I able to purchase swap magic? And from what I have heard, people have been able to download the program to a CD,but I want to be legitimate about the situation.

2.When I get this PS2,I will have two of them, which are both diffirent models. So I wanted to know if it would be better to get Swap Magic for my regular model PS2 or my slimline.

3.@ExMachina: So,you actually used absolutly NOTHING with your swap magic, just random items. Is it inconvenient for you,or does your PS2 work just fine?

I'm going to need alot of help with this swap magic thing,i'm mod illiterate.:urg:

You can buy swap magic from modchipstore.com. I personally would recommend getting swap magic + the tools for your slim line since you can install the tools without voiding your ps2's warranty. You can also do the tape method for modding slimline ps2s but that method, although pretty easy, voids your warranty. There are some sites out there which tell you how to mod your slimline using the slim tools. The problem is, you might have to make some adjustments if your slimline is one of the newer models.

I believe it is one of the black older slimline models,i'll see it's inside specs when I get it.If this works,I can get Slash and Accent Core!!:)

Would this be the appropriate one?

Yup, that's the exact same package I got for my slimline. As stated earlier, the upside is that you don't void your warranty by using those tools. Though I had to make some changes because of the fact that I had a newer model. It was pretty nerve wracking but I succeeded. I don't want to have to do that again but I might have to when I get a new one before my warranty expires.

And yeah, Accent Core this month. Get hyped.

EPF: I bought Swap Magic (and a Freeloader) off of NCSX.com... it's a bit pricier than modchip-dedicated sites, but I was buying a bunch of other import games so it wasn't much of an issue. I picked up a second set of discs for much cheaper from ConsolePoint.com and have no complaints about them, but they merged with another store so I dunno if they're still reliable.

And yeah, I was previously using an old, bulky PS2 + magic key + boot disc to play imports, but my brother picked up a Slimline as well. It's one of the newest models though (SCPH-7000x) so I dunno if my methods for fooling the system into thinking the lid's still closed can translate for you as well.

Ky: Yeah, definitely psyched. I'll be importing it along with Ouendan 2, gonna be a fun summer. :D

Definitely psyched for Accent Core. I'm tired of everyone whining about how overpowered Ky is... it'll be nice to be able to whoop them all with a mid-tier. It also coincides almost <I>perfectly</I> with my graduation from high school, so I'll probably end up playing Accent Core almost non-stop for a week or two. I can't wait ^_^

That would be because Arc seems to hate America. I think they decided that Americans aren't worthy of playing competitive Guilty Gear, because we can't match the Japanese. They probably won't have american releases for any new XX revisions, assuming they're not stopping with ^Core.

Think about it. We didn't get Slash. When they released Judgment, they made a conscious effort to NOT include Slash with the package: they gave us #Reload, instead, which makes ABSOLUTELY no sense whatsoever. Giving us an inferior game like that... it's just a bad move. I would have bought Judgment if I had gotten Slash with it. Join the conspiracy, everyone!

I get tired of people *****ing about Ky too. They're all *******. He's nowhere near as bad as #R Eddie. I'm playing him still in ^C and I'm going to have lots of fun with his changes. If I feel like being a ***** though I'll use generations mode and pick his Slash incarnation. The idea of Generations mode sounds really fun as it makes it a bit more like Anniversary Edition of Street Fighter. Have two characters using their best incarnations go against each other. Though I wouldn't expect Generations mode to be tourney legal at all but it does add some variety to the game.

But yeah, it does feel like Arc doesn't care about the players over here. It made no sense to release #R with Judgment when the Japanese version had Slash. If the Wii wasn't region locked then it wouldn't be so much a problem for ^C, you'd just have to import it. But yeah, region lock is going to be a problem. :\ I don't see why they wouldn't release it here though since Nintendo doesn't have a stupid ban on 2D games.

I don't care how much Ky sucks in the older versions of GGX,he is still my favorite character, and I'm going to play with him in the good and bad times...But his^C incarnate looks amazing, and even comes equipted with 6HS and VT Loops(That 6HS loop comes at a price though, his oki game got towned down since he lost his last 6HS),his grab and SE can be FRC'd now as well.

But I really don't see the point in releasing ^C on the Wii and PS2,both of which are in japan.I guess it is all of the artificial pride the japanese have.I'm still going to try to recieve that PS2 and import ^C with swap magic+Magic tools with the 100 dollars i'm going to recieve.

First: Ky's grab has an FRC in Slash, too. Second: yes, Ky has new loops, but they do pretty much the same damage as a typical GS->S->2H->Jc->j.S->j.C->j.S->j.H->AVT combo in Slash, and he lost practically ALL of his godly pressure game... 6K has more lag, Stun Dipper is practically useless, both Ground SEs lost attack level (though the FRC points kind of even that out) CSE got nerfed, GS has smaller hitboxes (I think) and floor-bounces instead of launching, which takes some old loops. There are other changes, you can check Dustloop for the rest.

In short, yeah, I'll take the changes gladly, since I couldn't use Ky's pressure very well anyway ^_^ I don't use a Magic Keys, so I can't help with which version of that corresponds to which PS2 version, but I modded my SCPH 75001 in exactly the same manner as the old 75000 or whatever the original slim model was called. There was just an extra screw that you could only remove by taking the bottom off the thing. We ended up really messing up the casing, but at least it still plays games!
