So yeah... I left my controller at the venue... would really like to get it back as soon as possible..

It's platinum with a small scuff where the paint came off under the D-Pad.

Yeah if anyone ended up with my platinum controller accidentally let me know. It's got a gecko sticker on it (lol). Kinda hard to miss.

Also GGs to everyone I played. Definitely one of the most enjoyable tournaments I've been to since everyone was really chill and fun to play against.

Oh and Mossta, would it be possible to get the tio file from you? I'll send you a pm with my email address.

Yeah, Tracy was a lot of fun. I'm glad I could come. :) Thanks again, Andre!

And yeah, GGs. It was nice meeting everyone.

GK, we'll have to get some friendlies next time! We'll probably meet again since I've seen you at large events before. I would've taken you up on the MM, but I left home Friday and didn't get back online to see your post until Saturday night. :p

Yeah I'm pretty sure wolfy got 7th.

@DRGN: This was sort of my last tournament (for a while anyway) but I'm sure we will play again eventually. I have relatives in sac so I might stop by a tournament there in the future.

Sounds good to me. As for the next one, im pretty busy in june and july so it would either be as early as may but more realistically in early august.

Im glad it turned out as successful as it did. I got less rsvp's than last time but more showed up. Thnx again for running brackets choknater and gkinfinity. I actually got to play lol. And for the first time i wasnt completely exhausted after setting up and cleaning up. I actually put all my equipment back when i got home.

Gkinfinity thnx for the friendlies. I always enjoy playin you. I always feel challenged without feeling dominated.

Johnknight- had fun playin a few extra friendlies post tourny at my house.

The rest of my shoutouts i didnt kno ur name or u dont visit these forums so....yeah. Had fun hopefully next time i wont be eliminated both times by my own crewmates dirty humans and foxmckrack aka mossta.

Yeah I think it definitely helps having multiple TOs. I know I was always exhausted after hosting the modesto tourneys and I never got much time to play. Thanks for hosting the tournament matt! And yeah, the friendlies were fun. I learned some pretty interesting things from you while playing against your peach and link.

haha i think there was only 1 main thing that went wrong with this tourny lol: moss delayed hella matches in melee singles, but i didn't wanna dq him because he was staff LOL. he set back the singles tourny at least 90 minutes :p

it's all good though, we still have sooooo much time at the venue so it's not a big deal. if we start getting 30+ players though we could perhaps extend the staff. dirty humans was very helpful and knows how to use tio

Yeah, GK beat me in loser's. That Zelda is toooooo good, man.

I'm glad I got 7th, though. My highest placing so far. :)

Was a great tourney! I honestly can't wait for the next one!

I was cool waiting for him to kick my butt! I was surprised how chill you and the other TO's were with it, but hey, he was helping the tourney out, so all is good.

Also, I want to give a shout out to the TO's and really everyone there. The tournament was well-organized, well-run, and an all-around great atmosphere. Thumbs up to all of you.

I don't know jack squat about tournament organization, but next time you guys run it, don't be afraid to ask me for help.

And dang those were some great Grand Finals of both singles and doubles. It was mad hype! Gotta keep those Smash 64 combos in Smash 64, though.

hehe youre a nice dude johnknight

u can watch us run tio next time. understanding a double elim bracket is not really that hard

but yea, the reason i didn't wanna dq him is because he was doing important things. but the thing is, it's no good to delay tournaments no matter what. i knew we'd finish early because the tourny was small, but if our tournies reach 30+ i will be a little more strict. however i don't think that will happen any time soon haha.

if the next one is announced early, we might get quite a big turnout though since this one was successful. both dp and meep are interested in the next one.

Thanks, HAHA! I hope I didn't make you or anyone else feel distracted in the Grand Finals with my hype talking (I decided to not trash talk, since trash smells. I just gotta hype the match for what it is due. Quite frankly, the singles and doubles final in particular needed to be hyped to the roof.

Sure. That sounds like some cool beans.

Yeah that's fine by me, since the stuff he was important to the tournament. If he was robbing a blood drive I might be ticked off though! :awesome:

I am not a particularly impatient person. It's not like I was waiting for him at the mall while he was dress shopping!

Well if it gets too big, we're gonna need to dance to stay under the max number of people allowed in the venue! :bee:

I don't think you heard any of what I said. You were super focused and you had a mad game face. DRGN had a mad game face, too. The game faces the two of you had would have definitely done well in a game face competition.

But yeah, I was telling Matt and co afterwards you went off like a jet plane in singles; you started slowly but lifted off and performed better and better each match. Those combos you and DRGN exchanged in the last few matches were epic. I can't wait to see the replays on youtube.

i almost feel like drgn and i were both dropping TONS of combos and edgeguards

but the i think it all still looked cool to the level of players that were there :p :p

also my game face looks so angry LOL. like ifc yipes. drgn has a very straight, emotionless face when he plays

There was that time where you guys were on FD just off the edge that you two just turned straight up beast. The crowd was just going nuts. Literally the people playing MvC3 stopped to watch. That's when you know something's going down!

You two have your (different) blank stares down to an art form. Is that by any chance also your poker face=???

Haha! Super Serious Mode activate!

I think Chok was more composed than I was. I felt like I started making a number of mistakes that wouldn't have been there if it was just friendlies. But hey, that's just one of those things you gotta learn to deal with and get over (no matter what level of play), even mid-match.

What I'm most grateful for from singles finals is that I think I realized some better spacing strategies in a particular aspect that I've had uncertainties about before. So I feel like I learned something walked away from it a better player.

hehe drgn that's great, and that's what matters. it just means that we'll have even better matches in the future!

i learned that i am incredibly stubborn and will ALWAYS rush in if someone is trying to bait me. however, i can still be successful that way, i just have to be really careful and not mess up spacing. in my head, the aggressor sets the pace. i could be wrong, but i will keep playing that way until i discover something else.

johnknight, when i play poker i laugh and talk a lot hahahaha

I noticed that this is how I play. Unfortunately, I'm still at that level where I mess up spacing and make poor approach options...
I know I'm getting better at making split second decisions and reading people's habits, but I do still need a lot of work. I gotta keep myself from playing super stupid... my tech skill is getting better, though, so it's been a lot easier to improve on things lately.

I noticed that my playstyle sort of shifted a bit during the livestream on Friday, and after seeing Chok's Falcon, it kind of influenced me a bit. Playing friendlies at the tournament against new people really helped to force me to try new things and get creative, as well as just play smarter.

the thing i love about aggressive, intuitive play is that it almost always finds a way to overpower cookie cutter play. sure if the other player's defense is solid you have to respect some things... but there's always a way to penetrate, especially for fox, falco, and falcon.

i feel stifled as ice climbers now, but usually that's because of my bad habit of wavedashing forward when i shouldn't. i hope playing these other characters will help me fix those habits with ic's and help me choose the right times to approach

i think the way my falcon was playing at the tournament was 100% of my current skill level, but i could clearly see where i could fix mistakes and i think it was about 60~70% of what i'm capable of in the future.

No doubt!

Hmm. I know I can be patient, but I do this a good amount too, even if I recognize it at the time (is that what you meant, doing it even while thinking about it mid-match?)

And I think I agree about the aggressor setting the pace, that makes sense. But I think he is not always directing the pace (that is, controlling who is benefitting).

I am watching back videos of all my matches recently and am finding a lot of things I can improve on. A training camp idea wouldn't be bad for players like me and Jim who are kind of on a plateau. We could do it with the livestream stuff, perhaps. :)

Sometimes I'm just super oblivious to stuff that I'm missing and need it pointed out to me... >_>
Hopefully I'll be able to change that as I gain more knowledge, though...
At least right now I can train my tech skill more and work on spacing so that it's easier to apply concepts and things when I realize them.

When I play poker I am quiet, calm, and don't do nuthin'.

But yeah, at the tournament before this tournament I went to (Natural Selection the week before) I learned I tend to tech away from action too often and I never reset. Every since I started doing that after people suggested that I try to fix that, I've won a lot more and stayed in a lot more matches.

Yeah tech away is generally pretty good but of course if I always do the same thing you will get so predictable

I tech roll away almost all the time (probably 80%). It seems much harder to punish than the other options imo. They don't need to even move really if you tech in place/get up attack/roll through them. But yeah, if you always choose the same option they'll catch on to you

Tech roll away is generally better, yeah. Against faster characters that rely on tech chasing, though, it's almost as bad as all your other options, provided your opponent reacts fast enough and gets to you before you can get away/attack. Sometimes you can condition people to do silly things like expect a getup roll inwards while you're laying down near the edge, but then roll towards the edge and watch them whiff a SH aerial or smash.

EDIT: Tech roll away is generally better... but if you're a Falcon main (like meeee), it doesn't really matter cuz your techroll is slow as balls. >_____>
