bringing the fun back into smash

but i sitll consider tourny rules the funnest! :p

all other formats are just RELIEF from the mental stress of trying hard
Yeah, same here. Tournament stress/epic focus is still the best.

Still, we could do this fun stuff after the tournament. Except no Mewtwo Battlefield glitches this time! Instead, all Pichu, all the time! :smirk:

Sorry, haven't been on here in a while. But UMvC3 tourney! Get the word out! I should be able to have two set-ups going on my own. Would need more monitors/tvs and PS3s. But if there's not that many people that show up that wanna play like UMvC3 like last time then it'll prolly just be UMvC3/SFxT friendlies and stuff. Hopefully we can get more people to show up this time. Just gotta get the word out and promote it!

Oh, Fee's armand's girlfriend? I actually didn't really talk to either of them last tournament for whatever reason. Yeah, hopefully you can make it back next time

As far as setups are concerned, i can pretty much only bring a wii I think. I might be able to bring a few tvs but i can't promise anything yet.

For everyone- even if u cant bring a full setup bring what u can (tvs, gc, wii's, copies of smash, cords etc) we can easily mix and match to make setups. Just keep track of ur stuff.

yes, but the point for the facebook event is so that it can be spread and advertised to many other people very easily.

do u use challonge or tio? we can run all brackets on your laptop if thats alright. nick also has a laptop with tio but he will be using his computer to record i'm guessing

i'm guessing the venue will be open by noon so i'll start the schedule from there
hopefully we will have at least 2 marvel setups. if we have 3 the tournament should go buy quite quickly

entry fee for all events: $5 + $1 venue fee
low budget tourny ahhahaha

melee pot split:
singles
70/20/10
teams
70/30 (or winner take all if there are very few teams)

we will all tournaments regardless of how little entrants there are. even if there are four teams we will still run the tournament.

schedule
12-1: Signups and Friendlies
1 p.m: MARVEL SINGLES and MELEE TEAMS (signups closed, melee singles signups still open)
4 p.m: MELEE SINGLES
should be over by 9, Marvel tourny will likely be finished very fast (unless there is only 1 setup, could take some time.)

since GOH is not really a mainstream tournament for melee, i will try these experiments:

if there are at least 5 melee setups, i will have an MM tv to encourage MM's for friendly rivalries. you can do any format here (coin battles and stamina and stuff. or perhaps iron man, or standard)

if there are at least 6 melee setups, we can have another setup dedicated to friendlies with new players, since i saw a lot of this at the last tracy tourny.

GOH vibe is very laid back and great place to meet new people, and the competition is not extremely strong unless somebody from the bay shows up. so i intend to keep it that way and keep melee fun.

marvel and capcom games in general are SRS BSNS though, so hopefully those can get pretty hype.

Sounds good. I run tio on my laptop, so we should be able to run all brackets from my laptop. Matt said the venue will be open around 9:30-10. And he wanted the tourney to start around 12:30-1. i should be there pretty early, prolly around 10. Hopefully I'll be able to get the 3 setups tho. I know for sure I'll be able to have 2.

oh okay sweet. we can do friendlies/signups starting pretty early though

10~12 could be just setup and stuff, and give us plenty of time. it's not a big tourny and the venue is open for a long time so we will have a lot of spare time

I would switch these 2 but otherwise I agree with all the stuff you mentioned. There probably won't be almost any MMs.

I might be coming. If I do I can bring a Wii (and possibly a tv, if I go with Chok and he has space in his trunk).

Remember to wear green! And i mean festively green. U dont have to be decked out in green but dont point to a green line on ur plad shirt. Those who are festive enough might win some free candy and rockstars or maybe some other prize as well

I noticed that you guys might have a set up specifically for amateur friendlies. I was snoopinga round other tournament results and saw that some tournaments have Amateur brackets. Considering we are having pools(?) I was wondering if there was enough set ups you guys could run that rather then having just amateur friendlies. This will be my first tournament so i thought i'd make the suggestion although I am happy that you guys have put the amateurs into consideration. :D

We can't really run an amateur bracket do to the fact that 90% of the people at the tournament are considered amateurs lol. Tracy tournaments are pretty low key.

I completely understand where you're coming from Exeggutorr. People who are new to the competitive scene don't just wanna enter a tournament, lose twice against players far more experienced than they are, and sit by and watch for the rest of the tournament. Although friendlies are still certainly an option, there are 2 formats which are more fun for beginners.

Instead of running the entire tournament in a double elimination bracket format, larger tournaments will start off by doing pools. This allows every player to play against around 5 other people before being kicked out, regardless of how well they do. Unfortunately, this isn't an option because the turnout is not going to be nearly high enough for that format to work.

The other option is to do Swiss format, where every competitor plays 4 other people and 2 of those people are pretty much guaranteed to be at their level. It takes a little longer to run this format though and it's not as easy to run as a bracket. There are also a lot of repeated matchups between the better players because after the Swiss portion of the format finishes the top 4 or 8 people who placed well in Swiss move on to a normal double elimination bracket. I personally don't mind this format but several others prefer using the standard double elimination bracket for the entire tournament.

We'll see what everyone wants to do later I suppose.

the only problem with running a swiss format tournament is that i am not familiar with its mechanics. if i was as experienced with it as i am with double elimination, i would definitely do it.

anyway i'll be happy to meet you exeggutor and this is a great first tournament to go to since the vibe will be very welcoming to newbies.

and yeah nick is right, the tournament itself is already amateur lol
