Its back again! Green oaks havoc tournament will be held in Tracy on St. Patricks day (Mar 17). So bring your green apparrel and bring you gamecube controllers if your feelin lucky! I had a pretty decent turnout last time. About 25 people showed up which would have been more had some of my own crew not had some last minute emergencies!

Choknater and GKInfinity have agreed to run brackets for me so they will most likely be posting the rules with perhaps some of my own input as well as your own. If you havent been here before anyone will tell you that this is an excellent venue with enough chairs for 30+ people as well as tables and outlets allowing around 10 setups without being crammed together. Other accomodations are bathrooms, kitchen, fridge, microwave, couches and parking. Nearby are a jack in the box and subway and i will as always be selling concessions including rockstars, soda, and candy. No internet tho :(

As far as who will be there, i have some of my own friends from tracy, livermore, pleasanton, sunvale coming. I hope for Antioch, stockton, modesto, and merced to come through and whoever else from the bay area. Tracy has some great potential to bring groups who are willing to travel 45 to 75 minutes for a day of smashing.

NEED EQUIPMENT! PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP WHAT YOU CAN BRING!

ADDRESS
2929 n. MacArthur drive Tracy, CA (inside the recreational room)

EVENTS
melee singles
maybe doubles
At least 1 setup will have all day freeplay

Entrance fees
$5

Prizes
50, 30, 10 (10 goes to venue)

RULES POSTED SOON! (should be close to standard)

just saying this now: we'll be playing recorded matches on a hacked wii so we can have some awesome skins lol. if you're not comfortable with playing tournament matches on that, you can just go ahead and play on a normal setup

we'll be using melee 2012 ruleset. the only really notable thing that i noticed is that JAPES is on for teams. i like that.

ruleset here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=313252

if you're too lazy to click the link:
ruleset is standard:
4 Stock
8 Mins
No Items
Friendly Fire On
Best of 3
Best of 5 for Winners/Losers/Grand Finals

Singles Neutrals:
Final Destination
Fountain of Dreams
Dreamland
Battlefield
Yoshi's Story

Singles Counter Picks:
Pokemon Stadium

Team Neutrals:
Final Destination
Pokemon Stadium
Dreamland
Battlefield
Yoshi's Story

Team Counter Picks:
Kongo 64
Jungle Japes

DSR: A player/team may not counterpick to a stage they have won on.
Gentleman’s Clause: Any stage may be played on if both players agree to it. This rule takes priority over DSR.

Other rules: Bring your own controller and please take a shower before the tournament.

Yo Skeet, got your text bro. Here is my answer to whether or not I plan to go.
barring something happens.

I can bring my extension cord (boy did we need those!), and my Gamecube again. I'll probably be able to bring another extension cord, and maybe my Wii (I let a friend borrow it).

I don't think I can bring a TV, although we had plenty last time fortunately. Seriously, some of you guys stepped it up with TVs hardcore. If a TV is really needed, I'll see if I can borrow one from a friend or family member.

Japes is legal? What's the reasoning behind that exactly? I mean if we add Japes we might as well add Mute City, Rainbow Cruise, Brinstar, Pokefloats, and Green Greens, AMIRITE?

Anyway yeah, I hope we have a pretty good turnout for this. I'll post this on AiB and contact the people I know who might be able to make it out. I'll have my hd pvr at this tournament and hopefully we'll get some good quality recordings out of it. We'll try to do commentary this time.

I played with the merced guys pretty recently and I'm not sure how many will be coming out for this. The scene in Merced has died down a lot. Maybe Fresno will show up.

Yeah I know you just copy/pasted the stage list andre. I'm just wondering what the reasoning was behind having that as a legal stage. This is gonna be a pretty low key tourney so if Japes is legal, whatever. I'm pretty sure I'd beat anyone you cp'ed that against me and I know I won't be using it as a counterpick myself so I don't really care. I can't think of an argument in favor of the stage though other than the argument 'It might be fun'. It's a bad argument from a competitive standpoint because the stage introduces elements of randomness (klaptraps) that can drastically alter the outcome of a game. Everyone's just going to this tournament to have fun though and there isn't such a strong emphasis on actually winning, so if the stage is okay with everyone else then it's fine with me too.

Well if its not too important on having a perfectly fair competitive ruleset i petition for having pokemon stadium on random and rainbow cruise as a counterpick stage :)

It's not tooooo random if we can simply avoid the zones where the Klaptraps attack! :) hahahah. As opposed to corneria where the Arwing lasers track your position.

anyway i'll take it off if people are like, vehemently opposed to it and choosing to not come to the tourny because of it, but I doubt that'll happen. I'll test it out, and then send over the results to Cactuar and the tentative ruleset guys. Testing is always good, right?

pokemon stadium is already a teams neutral. rainbow is whack LOL but i guess it can be legal too

LOL ew i think that 2 stock 3 min ruleset is really dum. kinda stretching it by wanting to make melee more like traditional fighters when it's not. i wouldn't wanna change the stock/time ruleset that's been used for years

however maybe we could test it out in recorded friendliez/seriousliez or something

or have CACTUAR money matches

Yeah I wouldn't really wanna run the tournament with that ruleset either, but I still think it's interesting. We should play some friendlies with that format to see what it's like.

I think a umvc3 tourney would help boost attendance.

Also, here are the pictures of the venue for those wondering what it's like--

Doesn't really show off the entire venue but it gives you a pretty good idea

Ya the depth of the room is deeper than it appears in the picture.

Choknater- ya ok but i mite make it every 30 coins. A shutout match could put a huge dent in my wallet lol

Tio pretty much has everything you would want/need for hosting a tournament, unless you wanted to do swiss format or something. Idk, maybe challonge looks nicer graphically or something but I think tio will work fine.

haha the thing about challonge was that it could connect to the network so you can live update the internet i think

that was the main diff

but i guess that's not much of a concern for us haha

Oh really? That's pretty cool. I can definitely see how that'd be nicer for a larger tournament. I wonder if there's even internet access at the venue though

hahaha idk

like i said it wouldn't be a big deal for us. i mean, who would even follow our tourny?

but i guess if we provided the service, maybe at least 1 person would watch. heck even if we streamed lol

tons of ppl do that now but i heard good streams are expensive and require some good tech

Yeah I was considering a stream. My laptop isn't bad. Not worth the effort for the maximum 3 or so people that would actually though

Bonus Mode on Brinstar Depths. I win. :smirk:

I will MM anyone here 10,000 dollars
Monopoly money.

Seriously, Monopoly Money Matches for the win! :awesome: We could have $10,000 money matches in Monopoly Money to create super hype! If somebody gets 4 stock'd, beat by 50 coins or more, or loses by 5,000 or more bonus points, they have to give up a "Get Out of Jail Free" Card!

But yeah, Skeet is right. The pictures make the place look small, but it is very roomy. There's even cords in the bathroom so we can play some matches in there. :embarrass:

bathroom coin battle money matches let's go
Hell yeah! We can even have an option of forcing us to play by looking at the screen via the mirrors! :smirk:
Sudden death is settle by who can pee the longest, earning them 100 coins.
How about we get settle sudden death like real men... with an Irish Bar Fight... of words! :awesome: "No, my potatoes are better than yours." "No your potatoes taste like they were grown out of the ground!"

It will all be in the good spirit of Saint Patrick's Day!

We can all come up for some crazy stuff at the tournament to do... within fine reason of course.

Maybe we can also have 2 vs. 2 matches where two players have to control both characters on their team on Big Blue and lots of bomb-ombs!
