Grab Questions about Marth.

I hear about a lot of types of grabs now there is the dash grab , dash attack grab, wavedash grab, jump-canceled grab, shield grab, and normal grab. While standing the shield grab seems faster than the jump-canceled grab, and while running, the dash attack grab seems to give the furthest extension in range. My first question is which grabs are the best for the most common situations, and why is there such an emphasis on jump-canceled grabs if they are slower than sheild grabs.

Also when u do the short hop double fair, if the second slash does not completely finish is it automatically l-canceled or do i have to clear the ground on the second fair then fastfall and l-cancel?

I think you're making it more complicated then it is. A jump-canceled grab (JC grab) is slower then a standing grab by 1 frame (there's 1 frame of jump animation before the grab), but it's still much faster then a dash grab. I don't know about a dash grab having more reach (I'm pretty sure it does), but even if it does, Marth's grab range is already outrageous enough. JC grab speed > dash grab range. You should replace every dash grab with a JC grab when playing Marth.

I don't know where shield grabs come in to this though...shield grabs and JC/dash grabs are used in totally different situations.

As for your shdfair question, it's impossible to get the second fair's complete animation out. You also don't have to fastfall your double fairs, ever. You do, however, have to l-cancel them. They will never auto-cancel, and missing an l-cancel on a shdfair will give your opponent time to escape/retaliate.

A dash grab has more range than the standing grab. However, it has a hell of a lot more lag than a JC grab and it looks ugly. It's only good for grabbing crouching opponents like Kirby and Jiggs, who cannot be grabbed with a normal grab. Also, you cannot shieldrgab while moving when you're in the initial dash animation.

If you find yourself being predictable and the opponent spot dodging whenever you go in for a grab, dash in and put up the shield (where they spot dodge), then press a when their dodge is finished. It's a nice little trick.

There is also an attack cancel grab. press the a button right before you grab, just like a jump cancel grab, but press the A button instead of the jump button. Watch how far the range is.

Woah woah woah wait a second... If I do an "attack cancel grab" will it have more range than a standard grab?

Oh wait never mind. I thought he was talking about standing still and canceling a neutral A into a grab. He was actualy just reffering to the dash attack grab, and I got confused because Godfinger already mentioned it, and then Jesiah went and said "there is also an attack cancel grab". I thought he was talking about something different.

I don't think Marth's dash attack grab is very useful. It's more useful for Sheik, because she has a much more dramatic lunge forward when she performs her dash attack.

ppl don't use attack cancel grab very often. JC grabs are your best bet always.
Not if your trying to grab a crouching Jigglypuff. I do admit that 99.9% of the time a JC grab is your best option, but there's always exceptions to the rule. I no longer JC grab at a standing Jigglypuff because almost every time I did that he'd just crouch and Rest me. Now whenever I do a dash grab he's like WTF how'd that get me?
