Well you see. It all depends on the par of the course, if its a 13 I'd suggest suggest a 9-iron and... Wait this isn't a Golf topic.

(I know there are permits for teen driving)
You know, the reason the age for a license is 18 because so many teens are careless and end up causing fatal accidents. I'm one of those people that are against teen driving, (although I'm sure you're not sammy p) I think you should wait one to three years before getting a permit/license just to be safe.

Although, if you want to get better at driving, try finding a Logitech Steering Wheel and a racing simulator that's compatible with it. Those wheels (complete with pedals and clutch) feel so realistic that you could try preparing (though not depending) on it for practice beforehand.

BTW, have you taken a drug course? (Everyone has to regardless of charges or not)

You might want to be more specific with your question on how to be a better driver. Are you talking about just ordinary freeway and traffic driving (general questions like how to turn without hitting a curb, and blindspots), or are you talking about drifting (sliding around corners without losing much speed)? I can help mostly with the freeway and traffic, but not so much the drifting...

What do you mean by marks? Like those little highlight flashy things, lines that are separated like - - - - - - , or one continuous line with separated lines next to it?

like the completely different lanes that tell you to turn. that have the arrows paintd on the lanes that show you which way your turning

Well, you first have to learn how to merge into lanes and know which way you plan to go. If you have no idea which way you are going (left, right, or straight) then you will have a big problem with other cars and stress. Once you know which way to go (haha that rhymes) You then merge into that lane at the earliest possible convenience.

Merging
1. check your rearview mirror for cars in the lane you need to merge into.
2. look forward for cars.
3. check your left or right mirrors for cars in the lane you need to merge into.
4. Look forward for cars
5. check your blindspot for cars in the lane you need to merge into.
6. check forward for cars
7. turn on your signal for left or right (whichever way you're going) and check your blindspot again.
8. change lanes by turning the wheel only slightly (say 20 degrees) to the direction you want to turn.
9. continue to check forward and your blindspot for cars as you merge.
10. once you are in the lane that you desire, wave at the person behind you (if applicable) to thank them for letting you merge (or to apologize if you almost hit them)

I hope that helped.

Scott!'s Rules of Driving that aren't in books

Rule #1 of driving: Never trust the other driver. I'll elaborate. If you're driving along and see another car (almost all the time) do not trust that they'll do the right thing. Do not assume that just because you do everything right, you'll be fine. Their turn signal might only be on by accident. They might be on their cell phone. They might be drunk, or old, or distracted, or anything. I don't want to scare you completely, but if you get into a car and start driving and never at least think about this stuff, then you're not aware enough.

Rule #2: Driving laws are (usually) made for a reason. If the speed limit seems low, that doesn't mean go faster. It means there's probably a reason it's what it is.

Rule #3: Your life is more important than that of whatever idiot animal just ran in front of you. While it's best to not hit the deer, bunnies, and alligators, if you can't stop in time to avoid them, don't start swerving. If you hit a deer, you should be (physically) pretty ok. If you swerve and hit a guardrail, tree, or telephone pole, things get iffier.

Rule #4: On major highways, I at least feel safer when I'm keeping pace with everyone rather than driving at the limit and having them all fly past. Not that you should speed, and this isn't really a rule, but it's my opinion.

Rule #5: When in doubt, waiting a second or 10 is better than waking up in the hospital, or never. Don't try to pull out at an intersection if you don't think you can make it. Even if there's a chorus of beeping horns egging you on. They don't care about your life, only their own.

Rule #6: Don't be a bad driver. Don't make dumb choices, don't get distracted, don't drink and drive, none of it. Why? Because if you do that stuff, eventually you'll probably get into an accident. Not that I care. If you get yourself hurt or killed because you did something stupid, then you asked for it. It's the other drive I care about. Tons of people die every year in accidents they didn't cause, and if you kill or maim someone, you'll have to live with that for the rest of your life.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that driving is serious business.

If you're talking about the lines on the road:

White Slashes: Can switch lanes, both lanes heading in the same direction
White Solid Lines (Like at an intersection): Cannot switch lanes, both lanes heading in the same direction
Yellow Lines: Cannot switch lanes both lanes heading in opposite directions
Yellow Line to the left, slashes to the right: Can use other lane to pass if no cars are coming from the opposite direction (Just stay on your side to be safe as this is risky)
Yellow Slashes to the left, solid line to the right: The lane coming from the opposite direction can use this lane to pass, but you cannot.
Two Yellow Lines: No one can switch across lanes

Does this clear it up?

Scott! Are you kidding about the deer? Plenty of people have DIED from hitting them.
(It's about the same impact as hitting a motorcycle)

Oh, I forgot one thing, possibly THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT TEEN DRIVING . . . . .

Never EVER use a cell phone while driving (or waiting at a light). So many people end up in lethal pileups by not obeying this one rule.

One thing that I can think of.

Don't look right ahead of the vehicle, on a road try to look about 15-25 seconds away distance. This will give you time to prepare for Most stuff.

Also, take a drivers ed course, it helped me out a lot.

My Advice.

Don't get cocky, always expect the unexpected (In other words, if you think someone is going to pull out in front of you, chances are they will.) Don't let peer pressure get to you (Like racing and crap like that) Last but no least, don't push you're car like a crazy man! (As it can lead to expensive problems with your car)

I crashed (Totaled) my 1st car when I was 17 because an old person pulled out in front of me (I love Florida...). So trust me, expect the unexpected!!!

Definitely agree. This is my biggest maxim when driving.

Rule #2: Driving laws are (usually) made for a reason. If the speed limit seems low, that doesn't mean go faster. It means there's probably a reason it's what it is.
Absolutely disagree. Speed limits are designated "safe" speeds for 120 year old drivers with horrible vision and reflexes and they shouldn't be driving anyway. I rarely go the speed limit if I can help it, it is impractical and is an inefficient use of gas. Sometimes, weather or other conditions may force you to drive slower. Use your best judgment. Of course, always go below the limit during your test.
