Dont get me wrong, COD4 is preety good, but GoldenEye is still the best mutliplayer game I play. My main problem with shooters these days is the online mutliplayer. Its all about competition and just isnt that much fun to me. I dont even play COD4 online. I dont play any game online. Its just so much more fun to play with friends at home. We make up all this crazy **** like the knife chant. Theres not much interaction between players when online, even if you have mics. Wombo Combo would have never been invented in a online match. But thats not really about GoldenEye. GoldenEye had a sense of stealth. You had the "option" to play each level with the silenced PP7 and never be outnumbered, or go with guns blazing and taking out everyone you meet. COD4 doesnt have that. GE has the best soundtrack of any shooting game, despite its mainly made out of the same song, just diffrent mixes. GE is just more fun to me. I really dont have an explanation of why GE is the best. I would much rather hear what you guys have to say. Also, COD4 is my least favorite shooter. My second favorite is Halo, then the Timesplitters series.

I'm gonna be blunt, Golden Eye did not age well (dives into bomb shelter).

But yeah, I get what you mean with online gaming be less about fun and more about competition. This is why I usually only play co-op online.

I tried bringing my thoughts together and I finally found out why I think GoldenEye is better. In most shooting games, you are surronded by a lot of enemies, upwards of 10 or more on the last levels, but all you have to do is lay down some automatic weapons and kill everyone easily. But GoldenEye had a sense of stealth. If you went up against 5 enemies who automatic weapons, you would get r***d hard. But of course your never supposed to go against 5 enemies at one time. I mean you have the "option" to but I mostly take people out from far away with the silenced PP7 so that I dont draw a huge crowd. I dont think I ever did anything stealthy in Halo. And you dont even take cover in todays shooting games. For the exception of GOW but still you dont see it often. I remember on Facility where that was that hall going into the nerve gas labs where I used the door for cover. That was awesome. But todays shooting games are just run and shoot.

No, Perfect Dark is not better than GoldenEye.

Sorry for looking like a troll. I just like my GoldenEye. And it makes me angry that Microsoft bought out Rare and due to legal issues, we will never have GE on Wii VC or Xbox Live Market Place. Not to mention that Timespllitters 4, the latest spiritual successor to GoldenEye was canceled. The Arcade/Stealth shooter genre is dead. Crying shame.

Perfect Dark is better than Goldeneye 007. Sorry, but co-op, counter co-op and bots in multiplayer give it the slight edge over Goldeneye 007.

Both games are fantastic but it's a shame we'll never see them ever again. The Rare you know and love is dead.

jolly old england. hohoho.
I still prefer goldeneye.

But I think it's funny that such FPS games these days match the customisable options, ideas and modes that perfect dark offered over 10 years ago.

You can download a HL2 mod called golden eye source. It still feels much like the original. Except for the fact that more than 4 people can play at once.

Basically everything you said here is backwards. Goldeneye practically started the "auto-aim" feature which trivializes a lot of fighting scenarios. It's not until the later levels where you can't just bust in and kill everyone, and even then you are never pressed to hide or sneak past enemies.

Furthermore, cover systems are incredibly prevalent in this generation of games. Gears of War, Killswitch, Winback (not this gen but it came after Goldeneye), GTA4, Rainbow Six Vegas, Red Faction 3. All these games have dedicated cover buttons. They are far more focused on hiding from enemies than Goldeneye is. Goldeneye very barely even has a stealth aspect. At no point is getting spotted by the enemies that much of a deterrent.

And yes, Perfect Dark took what made Goldeneye a great game, improved nearly every aspect of it and added a TON of different things...a better deathmatch, WAY better multiplayer, the ability to not only play co-op but "counter-op". It had twice the weapons, and each weapon has a secondary function. The missions are more in depth, exciting and varied...

honestly I could keep going. It's perfectly fine to prefer Goldeneye over Perfect Dark, but it's practically objectively wrong that Goldeneye is a better game.

Well i know what u mean the feeling of whipping out your N64 or GC and playing games like mario party and Golden was fun. But some online games like Team Fortress focus on team work and stragiety more then a spazzy team shootem up.

Lazers only FTW. And Odd jobs insta kill hat makes me lul every time.
